  1. Great article by one of the best in the business of fitting, Peter White http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/fitting.htm Methodology Notice that in most of this there is no mention of measuring body parts. And nowhere do I have you dropping plumb lines from knees, positioning handlebars so they block views of front hubs, comparing the length of your forearm to the distance between the front of your saddle to your handlebar, etc. My methodology is quite different from what most people are doing in bike shops. The Fit Kit and other marketed fitting systems are based on the measurements of lots of different riders and their bikes. It assumes that the averages of those measurements are somehow going to result in a good fit for you.
  2. If GroupOn are near it there will be a cockup somewhere and there will be moaning and wailing
  3. Tried the craft bibs today. Got a boner just looking at them. Then I rode in them. Nice, better than my vermarc.

  5. Unless they ate some steak en route to the podium, then we have all sorts of silly jersey presentations after the event.
  6. Wheels from a unicycle, big thread on mtbr. I'm tempted to try one on the road...
  7. The micro pedalflow allows riders to cover short distances with simplicity and speed. With its simple folding design, it’s the ideal companion for getting to work or when visiting the city. It doesn’t require much space, and can be quickly stowed away under the seat in the train or tram. Simply unfold it again and it’s ready to ride.
  8. At the offer of R1,499 that has to be a buy. Why not contact Wendy Knowler (consumer@knowler.co.za) and tell her your story. It's high time these scams are exposed.
  9. Went there once. Last time I'll do that. Service was worse than any other bike shop I've been in.
  10. It doesn't end there with mechanics. I'm asked almost weekly for recommendations relating to bicycles by friends and others. I have in the past had no hesitation in recommending the shop I use. However I have stopped this as not one person has received a level of service from the shop, be it pre-sales or post-sales, that would make me want to go there myself. It's a booming sport and most shops are getting more one off business than they ever expected. Result: service levels are now unacceptably low. My referrals are almost treated with contempt, maybe because they are buying 4 entry level bikes for the family rather than one top end racer. I do all my own maintenance and that of most of my ride partners, usually after they have been elsewhere first, I build my own bikes and I buy purely on price and availability. I used to be loyal but it is hard in this sport.
  11. A historic version of EPO in the peloton in 1996, interesting and definitely worth a read. http://cyclismas.com/2012/06/riishomon-a-heros-tale-part-4/ An extract: "One day the Tour will return to that hill above the Roman Catholic shrine in Lourdes, where miracles happen. That hill where Miguel Induráin had effortlessly chased down Marco Pantani in 1994, where Riis reigned supreme in 1996, where Lance Armstrong closed on Javier Otxoa in 2000 and where Piepoli had run rampant in 2008. One day, riders in the Tour de France will once again race up the Hautacam. When they do, let’s hope there are no more miracles on the Hautacam. Let’s hope for a hero fans can believe in."
  12. Ever ridden 8 days in a row? 5 to 8 hours a day? Come back after the Epic and tell us how good you feel having just ridden it on a HT. I'll be the one laughing at your discomfort. By day 6 you'll find their just is not a comfortable way to sit on a saddle. Add the fact that that saddle transmits every bump right onto your bum.
  13. Now I know there is a God. Which is why the hub has a ban on nudity and titties. Thank God for that rule
  14. Make some coffee. And then some more. And while you're waiting why not write to Wendy Knowler, she loves GroupOn stories. And vendors that lift their prices to pretend you are making a saving. BTW when it comes to physical goods GroupOn usually acts as an agent, they don't buy stock themselves, they sell the goods, take their cut, pay the supplier to deliver. They don't warehouse and have no risk of unsold stock....
  15. Isn't it? No wonder I've had no luck here. Damn

  17. The last word in the title of the thread says it all... Here is an ad on thehub for a Pyro 1000 at R899, which I believe was the price on the website before it was inflated to give the impression of 54% off! http://www.thehubsa....high-cri-light/ In case it gets deleted, here is the screen
  18. Looks wide enough for the frame http://thereifixedit.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/white-trash-repairs-bike-rack-city-bh.jpg
  19. Comparing local prices to international prices Don't do it, you will just depress yourself.
  20. It's not only Gumtree GroupOn that's the problem here, this from another thread when it was pointed out that the GroupOn "valued at" was a nonsense figure.... edit: Gumtree
  21. I think that's the problem...

  23. only a Cat 3 nogal
  24. Only from sharks offering "a deal that's too good to be true". Always is too good to be true. In this case what saving has the honest shopper made? On the 1000 he has paid 100 rondt more than he would have had the deal not been offered through GroupOn
  25. Quite possibly. The website prices were changed to match the GroupOn normal price. I know GroupOn can't do that.
