Never carry a tube on the mountain but I do carry a bottle of stans and plugs. If it's that serious that it needs a tube I just wait for one of my mates to catch up. But I never go out without a hanger and 2 sets of brake pads. Caught there once and never again.

Only benefit of a camelbak is it's easier to drink and you can do it going up or down. Bottles are finnicky. But to start the day with 3 litres of liquid as Blitzer suggests is just crazy, if you need 3l of liquid before the 1st water point and between water points maybe you shouldn't be doing the epic?

Anything with full XT and a ZTR wheelset in a 29er for under R18k is good value. Best price you can get on XT locally is at easybike for R7499, Crests go for aroound R5k, tyres are 399 each at cwc, chuck in seat post, stem and bars and grips, say a grand, that's over 14K already and you still need a fork and frame.

Get your trailer guy to add a supplementary circuit for the trailer and stay legal?
