  1. How can Dragon be to blame? CWC delivered you the wrong frame hoping to get away with it. The one they had in stock at a reduced price.
  2. I need some help in finding the best place to buy spokes. Any recommendations? Either DT Swiss or Wheelsmith spokes.
  3. This is really disappointing to read. Obviously CWC knew your frame was an old model when they sold it to you which is why they offered it at 23k. The 2012 version with 142x12 was priced up by Dragon when released. I cannot for the life of me see how it takes them this long to phone Dragon and get a replacement. Or phone another shop and do a swap for you.
  4. So you only need to set your bike up through a fitting if you're going to do the Epic? What toss. Claiming it's a topic with good advice based on the number of views is like some of the claims made by the world's most intelligent man to justify his ramblings on about water bottles and multi-tools.
  5. Depends what you big blade is. A 36 is not as impressive as a 42. You've got it in one. Do we ride for fun and to enjoy trail riding spinning comfortable ratios when we want to? Or is it all about telling everyone else how hard we are? The facts are with a 44/32/22 and 11-36 you get the same bottom end as on any 26er which is about 6 kph at 90 cadence but the top end is like a road bike at about 48 kph at 90 cadence. Perfect for 100% of the riding I do. 24x36 on a 29er gives you 19.05" per pedal turn. The old 22 on a 3x9 on a 26er gives you 16.73" per pedal stroke, about 14% easier than the replacement on a 29er. So not quite the ultra granny, or as Shimano called it for a while "Mega-Drive".
  6. http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/verbruggen-wont-take-legal-action-against-hamilton Dutchman reacts angrily to questions on Armstrong testing When asked about the USADA case Verbruggen reacted angrily, saying, "I don't talk about that. You're a journalist. You hear that those people say Armstrong has arranged with the UCI... If you would be a guy that thinks like Landis or Hamilton wouldn't you ask Armstrong what are you doing with the tests that are done by USADA? What are going to do with the tests by WADA, AFLD? Nobody says that. What I mean is, if Armstrong tells those riders I can arrange with the UCI, if you were Hamilton wouldn't you say, 'Lance what if I'm controlled by USADA, what are you going to do if I'm found positive?' He has been controlled 500 times, maybe 200 times other than us." The claim of 500 tests has never been officially proven but current UCI President Pat McQuaid recently publicised that Armstrong had been tested 215 times by the UCI. However when Cyclingnews pointed out that they weren't aware of how many times Armstrong had been tested or which body had tested him each time, Verbruggen added: "You should. God dammit. You're here with your microphone embarrassing me with all types of questions. I'm mad at people like you. You don't even do your homework. Is he only controlled by the UCI, he's controlled by other bodies. Am I entitled to be upset? You can write that. I wonder. You don't know the rules. That's upsetting for me. I'm 72 and I don't need lessons from people like that. You don't do your bloody homework. I know he's been tested. Yes. You should bloody well know; I hope to see that you write that. 'We as journalists don't do our homework'."
  7. In Africa? Surely you jest? Just a matter of time before a new thread starts with "My bike was knicked from SECURE bike park at Gautrain"

    Omerta 101

With the old timers DS's involved in the sport it would not be surprising. One only has to look at the TDF when Nibali joined the break and then had a conversation with Valverde, shook hands on the deal and sat up.
  9. Wank wank money in the bank...
  10. WTF? Rule # 11 not apply here?
  11. That's the feeling when you need to have your first dump of the day but the queue at the portaloo is way too long and you have to train your response to overcome the anticipation. Like expecting to learn something about fitness on the thread that should have died by post # 7
  12. It's easier to discount when your starting price is higher than everyone else. Example XT pedals Bridge R1099 CycleLab R878 Typical sales mentality for the consumer who only want "a great deal". In other words a big discount. Does not matter that the starting price is marked up so they can mark it down....
  13. Cav, aren't you stating what we already know? Maybe a poll will find a hubber who still finds this interesting and informative.
  14. So primitive, may as well use a cheap cycle computer or a cheap heart rate monitor if you have to do that. Not waste thousands on a GPS unit and have the hassle of short battery life. A polar HRM needs a battery every 3 years or so, a GPS needs charging every weekend. Or less.
  15. What's the point of having a GPS if you have to input wheel size? Sounds like the reason it's so cheap on that group rip off site.... Garmin 500 has the same issues if you have the magnet on the wheel, the old 305 used GPS then switched to wheel sensor if no GPS available. Seems we have gone backwards in technology. Is there no auto sensor to calculate, from gps, what the correct wheel size is?
  16. Upgrade when you feel like it. Or don't upgrade, just get another. Remember the rules? n+1? But I have no idea what you are saying above except I do recognise 40% and 10%. But the context is lost on me. Bored us to death with battle plans. But wait, there's more, now we need economics lessons on the perfect time to get a new bike?
  17. One thing I have noticed importing: DHL look for a reason to charge you VAT (and Duty if applicable) so they can collect R100, ParcelForce/EMS generally charge VAT (and Duty if applicable) and collect R35, Post Office more often than not excludes the need to collect and you save the R35/R100. Therefor I rarely use a courier on imports.
  18. As I said the void is our SAPO guys, can't be arsed to do their jobs. Parcel is in my bike shed in Cape Town but according to tracking at parcelforce.com the package is still in Jozi. 10 days from order on a Sunday to Cape Town. Not bad. Paid 14 and a bit % VAT (exchange rate variance) plus R35. Saved thousands.
  19. This case really shows the incompetence of the UCI/CONI. Although banned from assisting athletes, Dr Ferrari's name was never published on the banned list! Having said that, he does provide massively expensive personalised training plans at EUR 40,000 - EUR 50,000 per annum! Makes Frank's payments to Dr Fuentes at EUR 7,000 seem good value.
  20. Read the post - it's the justification of the bad deeds because of some spurious good deeds the perpetrator may or may not have done. It's definitely not OK to justify the scourge of the civilised world because he may have done some good for a few followers in the same way any right minded person can accept Big Tex's cheating ways because he has raised $500 million from the gullible and given hope to cancer sufferers and their families. And massively enriched himself along the way. There was no comparison made between OBL and LA, the comparison was the justification by the fanboys. Wrong is wrong in the same way you can't be half pregnant.
  21. A bit like Osama Bin Laden was actually a pretty reasonable guy because he gave hope to so many poor and down trodden souls, even though in some eyes he was a mass murderer? It's ok to be evil if you do some good in addition to being evil? No right mind thinking person can actually believe all this justification, can they?
  22. Because he was more doped up he could train harder than anyone. Is that not the point. The dope doesn't always help you go faster. It helps you recover faster.

    Karoo to Coast

Hit that one around 5:30am one year (about 2004). It was possibly the most disgusting experience of my life. The porcelain looked like it had been skidded by 100 drunks who could barely aim, never mind flush. The portaloos were luxury by comparison.... This year we might tow our own luxury loo, I see a few on the beach in Paarden Eiland ready to be towed away!
  24. They don't send you a tracking number but if you look at your order on CRC you will see that Parcelforce.com (Royal Mail parcel business) does issue a tracking number that let's you know exactly where your parcel is. Until it arrives in good ol RS of A that is. Then it enters a void like that found in the space in a Big Tex fanboy's head where the rest of us have brains.
  25. What rock have you guys been hiding under? He ran away like a scared little coyote when he had the chance to prove his innocence in front of a panel from AAA. He knew he could not and you fell for it. Probably cos of the brand of glasses you are wearing while stroking your yellow bangle sitting in your ugly black kit with 28 on the back. At least Big Tex chose that number well. An ironic piss take on his fanboys perhaps?
