  1. My Strava links up with GC. But from around a week or two ago the synching got weird. Upon opening it will pull the exercise from Strava but only some data. No distance, map, data, HR nothing. Just that there was an activity on the day. Nothing on their forums and I cant seem to comment there or start a thread, hence my question to the local boys and girls. Obviously I am doing something wrong or some weird setting maybe or something. Checked the privacy, all good. If I export the FIT file from strava and manually import into GC, then all is fine (what I have been doing for the past few weeks in the hope that it maybe is a strava bug that needs to be sorted............) Any advice?
  2. I loose 3.7w per tyre. But the Goodyears are better puncture resistant.
  3. I have now 6100km on my Goodyears with one known puncture. Guessing I will get around 10000km on the set if all goes well.
  4. To clarify then. Bike fit = let the bikeshop size you up. For free. To figure out before hand what the correct size is. At 1.6m Mel will either be small or XS depending on inseam. Helmet you can organise somewhere something. By law you'll have to ride with one. I wont bother with cleats at this stage. First try to figure out if you are going to stick with the sport and if this will become your passion. For now, just go ride. Flat pedals. Whatever is on the bike. So no. You can get away cheap if you want. But get the size right and then go buy a bike. I think that was the advice.
  5. Welcome to the Hub Melissa. And welcome to the addictive world of cycling. Prepare yourself for bankruptcy and the insane joy that accompanies that. 🤩🤣 My suggestions would be 27.5 inch or 29. Small or XS frame Whatever you get, go tubeless from the get-go Your seat will be the first thing that you will have to get buy/change/get used to That said, go to any good bike shop in your area and let them help you with regards to size. Start with the local brand Titan Racing. Good price in general. Something like the titan racing rogue. You WILL work your way up from there as you get more and more into the sport. My 2c Remember.........the thrill is in the chase. So enjoy the journey.
  6. If anyone wants to order the socks that made Poggi faster winning the jersey. https://sockeloen.com/products/sockeloen-fastest-sock-on-the-planet-custom-aero-socks
  7. #25 It's been a constant evolving environment. Interesting for sure. Well done to Matt and the team
  8. You want to be in the top right quadrant.
  9. I can get in now at R3600
  10. I am. That is why I am doing a THIRD of the racing I normally did in the part per year.
  11. If an organiser is scared of criticism, surely then they should DEFINATELY avoid open forums that anyone can voice their opinion on. I had a think about pricing while pedaling home yesterday. Tour de Cap can present a road event for 5 days for R3200. No food, No accommodation. If THIS organiser can get close to that with his entries, then this will fill up quickly due to the gravel craze. We don't need tierlantyntjies. Draw a line in the sand so that we know it is the finish. Have a hosepipe nearby if I am dying of thirst and cant make the vendor stall. That said, a ONE day gravel event these days touches R2k. For one day. On unmanned dirt roads. In my life that is a shitload of money and a hard pass unless it is something amazing to do and I don't have access to the roads on a normal day. That gives him the chance to charge you R12k for the 6 days. This will NOT fill up quickly and only be afforded by the wealthy and will draw critisism. Brainless wonderings while pedaling.
  12. Heading out there in November. Not many rides out there if you have a look on the sections on Strava so difficult to gage what is what.
  13. Not offence. But you as a person know what respect is. What tradition is. And, as DieselnDust rightly pointed out, what is EARNED. But in this world we live in today that no longer counts. And what a "wonderful" world it is, né........... Stripes should be worn by those who earn it.
  14. Many happy miles sir. And it seems they are going to be FAST miles. 💨
  15. Ordered from the UK. Should be here by Thursday. Thanks for the help though
  16. I have to agree. To get another person with R12-R13k to spare is most of the times a mission. Work, life and finance does not always allow for the start to align. I would definitely enter more of these events if they had solo entries available. Put a tracker on my ass if you scared I get lost. 😁
  17. Thanks. Had a look and only saw the ebike stuff there. But yes, maybe they can find some. Dropped them a mail now. Let's see how long the capies take compared to the UK. 😁
  18. Anyone know anything about SA importer / availability on Swissstop brake pads? Couple of years ago Peak brands was the guys but no stock in any shops, no social media posts, only one brand on their web page which looks dodge.
  19. So bit of a revival of an old thread. Over the long weekend we visited Summerplace. Nice, easy 2 hour and a bit drive up North from Pretoria. You also have to stop at the big Padstal just before Bela-bela for freshly baked bread and marula jelly. Amazing stay. Everything was clean and modern and beautiful. The trails were amazing. I am a very big amateur when it comes to MTBing so the trials seemed very daunting at first but eventually figured at what I could ride and where I needed to walk. The Trailforks app to me is very cumbersome and you battel to find out what is what. Yellow: We went on a walk on this. Easy riding Red: I had to walk a couple of obsticles. Rocky with a drop or 5 Blue: All rideable. I enjoyed this the most. Gray: Also very easy and all rideable. There are a couple of rocky sections that need to be inspected before you can just bomb down it but mostly easy. Very hilly so I had to work for the beer and braai Orange: I did not get to ride this but seems to be one of the easier routes in the Northern part of the farm Green: We walked a part of this the one evening. Very pretty. Easy rideable There is a 'centre' of it all with a shop and place to beer and ice etc. Nice clean swimming pool. Loads of wildlife which gave the whole weekend a bit of extra magic. We will visit again, for sure!
  20. Early morning rides do have their advantages. We have seen many many owls on our meanderings. About 3 weeks ago I came across a porcupine in the neighborhood in Faerie Glen. No traffic Nice and cool in summer
  21. My mrs is the opposite. Opens eyes. Roll them. Sleeps further. 😁
  22. Well done. Keep going. Every year will be more and more and more with new adventures!
  23. So not knowing the area, I am assuming by your post above that you can do the "event" on your own on accessible roads? Was thinking the same thing as you. Just drive through and go do the route. Stop. Photos. Take it all in.
  24. Loads of rumors of its launch in August.
  25. Still 30% plus more expensive than overseas AND overseas have 19% VAT vs our 15%.
