  1. Heard good things about the recon race forks. Haven't tried 1 out yet, but I have to say that the RS Reba is SO much better than my Fox F120 RL. Too bad the RS didn't have a 15mm tru axle otherwise I would have kept it & sold off the Fox. Fox is also WAY overpriced!
  2. It's hard to say. You'll have to open them up to make 100% sure. I've done just that but I needed to service my 2009 FOX F120 RL. I noticed that if I set the stopper on the air spring assembly a bit further up the shaft the travel could be strecthed from 125mm to 150mm!!! BUT... when I checked the bushings on the lowers the lowest point of the stanchions only reached the top part / entrance of the bushes, but did not 'enter' into it. You can search the sram & fox sites for more info, bit I guess it's the best to open it up & see for yourself & take it from there. Heck if you have someone that can turn (is it the correct word? or is it lathe?) you a 10mm spacer if you want to remove the 20mm & only want to increase to 110mm & not 120mm. This is mostly true on RS, but fox on the other hand uses a stopper with clevis pin & pre drilled holes to adjust travel. i'm gonna move the spacer to the 150mm setting & then just put on a 15mm spacer to engage with the internal bushing on the lower. Then I've got a 135mm travel fork-voila!
  3. Thanx to all the replies. Have just bought lee's pump track nation! Hopefully start building soon!
  4. Hi you DJ & 4X maniacs! Title says it all, but I've got a few questions for all you pro's! My brother hurt his shoulder badly last weekend doing a jump that was above his limits. He went overbars & landed on his face / shoulder after his bike nose dived and landed front wheel first. That whole episode inspired me to practise jumping a LOT more. I'll also start a new thread for jumping technique (if there isn't one) with all my questions about jumping like a pro & to land decent (which is the most important part I guess!) Anyway ... back to topic... So the story goes like this: We reside on a plot & there's a water pipeline that's going to run from 'our' town to another small neighouring town that's crossing our plot. The constuction guys are very friendly & offered to help with small tasks for us with their machinery. They built some dams for other farmers... Now my actual question is this: We want to build some smallish jumps in the lines of what you'd encounter on XC / trail- not DJ style! & also we want to incorporate it into a sort of a pump track to practise when not heading out to ride the trails. Or should I have rather said a pump track with some jumps (table top for now). 1. How high should the pump parts be? 2. & how far apart? Now on the jumping side: 1. How high should the ramp be? 2. What should be the gradient (+-) 3. How long the table top before the down slope? Would first start with table tops rather than just ramps! I'm a noob, so if I left out anything PLEASE let me hear your inputs! Thanx in advance! Jacques
  5. Oh I forgot to ask - how tall is your pal? & what size is he riding? I'm 1.78 & right between a M & L, so don't know what to do...
  6. The ad just says FOX Rp rear shock - doubt if it's a RP23. Where did he buy his bike from & what shock did he get with it? Could you perhaps ask your pal if he could measure the BB height on it with the 140mm fork. (centre of BB) Thanx.
  7. It comes with a FOX RP - not too sure about the length then I might have a shock. Might even whip the shock out & put a RockShox Monarch in there.
  8. I was checking out frames the other day & now came across the Santa Cruz Nickel for $800 from competitivecyclist.com Has anyone got a one of these? Looks like a prety neat trail bike. OK, OK, it's a bit heavy I know, but I'm not gonna fuss too much about that. Any inputs/ recommendations welcome. J
  9. Great - thanx.
  10. +1 & you can do it yourself is the best part about it. You just need a few tools & you have to be a bit 'handy' You can PM me your e-mail & I'll forward you the tech manual or you can download it from here: http://www.sram.com/sites/default/files/techdocs/2011-reba-technical-manual.pdf or http://www.sram.com/service/rockshox/7,103,434 140mm might be a bit much. Check the manufacturer's specs.
  11. Sorry for the Hi-jack... How much were the delivery & the import taxes? Hi-jack off.
  12. Well this way we can keep a our loved 26ers & not break the bank to upgrade to bigger wheels. Just hope it'll fit my bike though if 1 day I decide to do the 650B upgrade.
  13. I'm with Crow on this 1. Doesn't make sense-I mean you drive throught the whole shock & still if it bottoms out it shouldn't bend the bolts. You dont do 8 foot drops with it by any chance
  14. Trying to get my hands on 1 of these (SBC right?), but with NO luck yet. Where can I try to get it? Ridden my brother's Silverback HT & it seems like a very comfy saddle. I've had the standard X-mission saddle on my Merida HT & didn't like it at all on long rides (2+ hours of riding) then got a Spez Indie XC & it's pretty fair on 3.5 hour rides, but longer it kills me. Tried the Gobi & didn't like it at all. Got the Spez on my Giant trance (DS)
  15. Sort of on the subject. What would be the best slime to use. My bro isn't having too much luck with stans on his bike's tubes. when I changed tyres (running tubeless) +- a month ago I saw that there were some greenish looking slime in the tubes. Have got stans in now with no probs so far, but the greenish slime just seems to be a tad thicker & never had a flat with the old tyres in +-500km.
  16. I've also got a creaking noise coming from my bike, but I guess it's the crank bearings. They're sealed, so can't re-grease & without pressure on them no problem, but when pressure is applied they start to moan. There's another creaking coming from the headset, but only when I get out the saddle & pull hard on the bars. Anyone know what that could be? Already tried unscrewing the headset & h.bars & re-fitted & torqued to 5nm. Bearings are nicely lubed& smooth & loose (in a good way) This is on a Giant trance.
  17. Thanx for the link & replies. I also read that, but was wondering about it as the speed railleur will only do 90% of it's work & is controlled by the shifter, but it could be that it won't work as stated by MTBR link.
  18. Will this Work? 10 speed dyna sys shadow RD on 9 speed cassette & 9 speed shifters? All is shimao. Thanx in advance.
  19. Looks great & I'm really considering! Will find out prices & let you guys know (I've got a dealer which gives me good discount on any FA equipment)
  20. That unpainted image is gorgeous... I'm not a DHer myself, but it leaves me with drool coming out both corners of my mouth - almost like homer j simpson
  21. Bikes aren't fast. Must be the rider? I've never even see a bike ride on it's own...
  22. I was there as well. It was lekker! Awesome beer for sure! We might have had a bit too much, but who cares? Felt it on my ride sunday morning... Have you guys seen the band Rooibaard? Quite good performance as always. Hope to see & meet some hubbers next year!
  23. I absolutely love my Trance. Would seriously hope to have the $ when the 29er (with sloped / curved top tube) comes...
  24. Looks like a really nice frame & would make for a nice bike... If you do scratch-keep us posted. Pics & review
