  1. PLease do as I'm gonna be VERY poor after my shova build, so every few rands that could be saved would be great!
  2. Exactly that! Thanx for the kind reminder!
  3. Thanx for those replies guys! Will 'go for it' soon I guess. Just need to check out all the nice things they have before checking out... This will be for a from the ground up Shova ST! Any links, ideas specials will be appreciated!
  4. Hi hubbers, Saw this fork & thought to myself it's a pretty decent buy: http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/frame-forks/forks-shocks/rockshox-suspension-forks/2012-rockshox-revelation-rlt-15mm-axle.html Just wondered if any of you have bought from merlin previously & what were the import taxes (in % please) on your purchases. Also checking out their wheel sets as it might be a whole lot cheaper than in SA. Thanx. Jacques

    Flu

To prevent flu: Skip the damn worthless vacs! Take a teaspoon of ceyenne pepper (not heaped, but if you want to it's ok -go ahead. It won't harm you. OK maybe ) & mix in a 1/4 glass of water. Stir & sip straight away. Keep a coffee next to you or tea , coke, whatever. Also eat lots of garlic. Be careful not to touch your face too often. Esp. at he work place where everyone snots etc. Think it's been said that a person touches his/her face about 2000 - 3 000 times a day... just imagine where those hands have been & what they've touched Get better soon
  6. Good explanation Eldron. I ride faster than many 29ers on some races (& I'm not even fast or the racing type) so the bike can make a fast rider even faster yes, but it won't make you go from the middle of the group to the front of the group. The 650B sounds like a good idea for a bit shorter riders if wheel sets & tyres becomes more freely available. Guess it all boils down to personal pref. as stated by many others before.
  7. Thanx for the reply. How long is the top tube? (centre to centre) Just have to finalise my finances to buy a medium shova. I'm SO excited!!!
  8. Nevermind the Santa Cruz... I've bought a ZULA
  9. Checked my mail & for some reason it didn't send, but just typed & sent again now...
  10. mail sent...
  11. GREAT!!! So where can I get 1 now??? Either just frame (pref) or complete bike would be good Thanx for informative reply.
  12. That doesn't look like much raise. Much less than going 100mm to 120mm on travel in a fork.
  13. Dis die beginsel nie die geld nie. Stuur hom 'n PM op die hub. Ek is seker hy brand om van jou te hoor
  14. Ban his IP adress if possible in order for scammers to not just create another profile & carry on stealing hubbers hard earned money
  15. What coil shock would you want to put on your trance? Had an almost brand new Fox RP23 that leaked oil almost from start & ended up in suck down after a few months of use (think like 3-4 or maybe was like 5 months, but still IMO way too soon) I'd love to raise the BB just a little too. Been thinking of going 140-150mm dual position RockShox Revelation with a slightly longer shock in the back.
  16. My Sram PG990 lasts for over 1000km with me now. Not too sure how many km's on it before I got it. I use Shimano LX chains. Had a sram hollow pin chain on there that broke quite easily & resulted in my almost hitting myself in the sack with the handle bar
  17. What size Shova ST do you ride & how tall are you? I'm 1.78 & there's a Large Shova I can get, but not sure whether a medium will fit me better. I ride a mediu Giant trance & it fits me quite well. Another few Q's: What is the BB height when a 140 / 150mm travel fork is on the bike? Would it be possible to put 650B's on a Shova? Thanx. J
  18. Heard good things about the recon race forks. Haven't tried 1 out yet, but I have to say that the RS Reba is SO much better than my Fox F120 RL. Too bad the RS didn't have a 15mm tru axle otherwise I would have kept it & sold off the Fox. Fox is also WAY overpriced!
  19. It's hard to say. You'll have to open them up to make 100% sure. I've done just that but I needed to service my 2009 FOX F120 RL. I noticed that if I set the stopper on the air spring assembly a bit further up the shaft the travel could be strecthed from 125mm to 150mm!!! BUT... when I checked the bushings on the lowers the lowest point of the stanchions only reached the top part / entrance of the bushes, but did not 'enter' into it. You can search the sram & fox sites for more info, bit I guess it's the best to open it up & see for yourself & take it from there. Heck if you have someone that can turn (is it the correct word? or is it lathe?) you a 10mm spacer if you want to remove the 20mm & only want to increase to 110mm & not 120mm. This is mostly true on RS, but fox on the other hand uses a stopper with clevis pin & pre drilled holes to adjust travel. i'm gonna move the spacer to the 150mm setting & then just put on a 15mm spacer to engage with the internal bushing on the lower. Then I've got a 135mm travel fork-voila!
  20. Thanx to all the replies. Have just bought lee's pump track nation! Hopefully start building soon!
  21. Hi you DJ & 4X maniacs! Title says it all, but I've got a few questions for all you pro's! My brother hurt his shoulder badly last weekend doing a jump that was above his limits. He went overbars & landed on his face / shoulder after his bike nose dived and landed front wheel first. That whole episode inspired me to practise jumping a LOT more. I'll also start a new thread for jumping technique (if there isn't one) with all my questions about jumping like a pro & to land decent (which is the most important part I guess!) Anyway ... back to topic... So the story goes like this: We reside on a plot & there's a water pipeline that's going to run from 'our' town to another small neighouring town that's crossing our plot. The constuction guys are very friendly & offered to help with small tasks for us with their machinery. They built some dams for other farmers... Now my actual question is this: We want to build some smallish jumps in the lines of what you'd encounter on XC / trail- not DJ style! & also we want to incorporate it into a sort of a pump track to practise when not heading out to ride the trails. Or should I have rather said a pump track with some jumps (table top for now). 1. How high should the pump parts be? 2. & how far apart? Now on the jumping side: 1. How high should the ramp be? 2. What should be the gradient (+-) 3. How long the table top before the down slope? Would first start with table tops rather than just ramps! I'm a noob, so if I left out anything PLEASE let me hear your inputs! Thanx in advance! Jacques
  22. Oh I forgot to ask - how tall is your pal? & what size is he riding? I'm 1.78 & right between a M & L, so don't know what to do...
  23. The ad just says FOX Rp rear shock - doubt if it's a RP23. Where did he buy his bike from & what shock did he get with it? Could you perhaps ask your pal if he could measure the BB height on it with the 140mm fork. (centre of BB) Thanx.
  24. It comes with a FOX RP - not too sure about the length then I might have a shock. Might even whip the shock out & put a RockShox Monarch in there.
  25. I was checking out frames the other day & now came across the Santa Cruz Nickel for $800 from competitivecyclist.com Has anyone got a one of these? Looks like a prety neat trail bike. OK, OK, it's a bit heavy I know, but I'm not gonna fuss too much about that. Any inputs/ recommendations welcome. J
