  1. Pick it up Friday, do the setup, take a 30k spin on Saturday to check things out, and use it on Sunday. It's only the 94.7, not a stage of the Tour. No biggie. It will take a very strong person to get a new bike then leave it in the garage and race the old one. If it was me, I wouldn't give it a second thought ~ I would ride the new bike.
  2. +1 We ride at Kyalami at our own risk, we all know that, but you would think that at high usage times they could have better contingency plans in place for accidents. With hundreds of complete noobs on the track, training for 94.7, this type of thing is inevitable. Kyalami has the staff and facilities to handle accidents, it just needs to be a bit better organised.
  3. Does anyone have news on her condition?. It looked like she was hurt quite bad.
  4. Off the bike for a long break, then in 10 days you are planning to lose 9kg and train +-25 hours at the same time?? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.
  5. Same at my Dischem in Midrand ~ nothing. Would have liked to give it a trial ride or two before the 94.7, but I guess that's not to be.
  6. Yip, my Bell replacement pad kit cost R68 about 4 months ago.
  7. I agree completely. If you're gonna get whacked off the bike, rather be doing 40 and get hit by a 80k car in the SAME direction, than in the opposite direction. Neither is ideal, both will hurt, but head-on will probably be fatal.
  8. Puncture protection tape????????? Sounds kinky, but most of my girlfriends don't need it. Jokes aside, don't know anything about it, my puncture protection comes from a good tyre.
  9. I'm already a ROAG member, have been for some time, but getting a bit concerned about riding solo all the time. If I could find a couple of riders in Midrand to train with, I wouldn't bother with a club, BUT, finding those riders is not as easy as it may seem.
  10. Thank goodness you live in Slaapstad and not near me. I thought it was only the muppets in Jhb who cycled into oncoming traffic.
  11. Can only say what works for me, and that is GP4000S. Opinions obviously vary, but in my family they are used on 3 different bikes for racing, and there has never been a problem with any of them. Training is done on Gatorskins, same story, no problems on any of the bikes
  12. Get a cheap wheelset, put the rubino's on them, pack plenty spare tubes, and use them for training. Put a decent tyre on your race wheels. One good thing about the rubino's ~ they are nice and soft, so it's quick and easy to get them off and back on the rim when the punctures start.
  13. Don't know much about the subject, but won't powder coating add a lot of weight to the frame? It seems like a fairly thick covering compared to spray painting.
  14. Easy to fix ~ ride faster, and put some meat on your weight weenie bones. Then you won't get 10000ks on a tyre.
  15. I use Gatorskins for training. 8.5 back, 7.5 front, 83kg, no problems with the tyres, current set has about 2500k's (puncture free) on them and should still be good for at least another 1000.
  16. I feel a noticeable difference on the days I stretch, as opposed to those when I don't. There is not a shred of doubt in my mind that stretching is beneficial, especially for older cyclists. Maybe the teens and twenty-somethings can get away with pushing hard on the bike day after day, and not stretching, but for the rest of us ~ ssstttrrreeeeccchhhh and feel the difference.
  17. That is a seriously good price, pity they are in Slaapstad.
  18. They are crap. I got two sets on different new bikes, not one of those 4 tyres lasted longer than 700km, with punctures aplenty as they slowly died. I would not use them again even if I got them for free. The Conti's at R600 is a bit steep, CWC has them for R480, last time I was at Solomons they were R490 odd. (4000S)
  19. This kind of thing would be a very serious issue for me, given that my 16 year old daughter will also be joining the club. She's pretty quick, does well in the races and I very much doubt she would be dropped by most riders out there, but everyone has an off day... Can you tell me which Cycle Lab branch this was?
  20. 1. Not stopping at lights is a big issue for me, and one that I have pointed out to Club 100 riders more than once. Haven't seen CL riders doing it in my area (yet) 2. Not really interested in tents, I enjoy riding alone, but the security aspect is starting to bother me.
  21. I'm thinking of joining one of these two next year, interested in opinions of current or ex members. What's good, what's bad, and what's ugly? (for road riding)
  22. I fail to see why the opening of a bmx track, or whatever else, should delay the draw of a prize that was advertised for months in advance, and that was used to lure buyers into spending more. If you advertise something, stick to your word. Totally unacceptable.
  23. That sucks, you were damn lucky you walked away from the downhill incident unscathed. And it one of the main reasons I stick to my Conti's ~ Gatorskins for training, GP4000S for racing. Never let me down, not once. (touch wood, yet)
  24. The draw for this competition is supposed to be today. CWC, please let me know what time I can pick up the car.
  25. Beautiful bike, but that steerer tube needs a serious haircut. No matter how fast you ride, an uncut tube always screams noob.
