  1. That test is a bit whacked. Especially at the upper power zones. Tests we do at Stellenbosch use 30W intervals every 2 mins. A 30W differences is a huge amount and I woud guess that if you are loosing out cause of the 4min intervals you are probably testing a bit low and are also under training. FTP is normally 85-90% for me.
  2. First post was spot on. Shaving was traditionally done for two reasons: To prevent infection after a crash and road rash. To help make post riding massage easier. Both of these evolved out of races such as the TDF where the physio and doctors had to find ways to keep their cyclists in the game as well as do all they needed to do (in this case quick, efficient post race physio and massage) in the little time they had after stages.
  3. Because guys like you are the reason motorists get pissed off. Self righteous, arrogant, self vindicated, always right, never wrong, hypocritical, list goes on. I spent 800-900km a week on the road last year and followed all the laws of the road. My training was never affected and I didn't once get into a bad situation with a motorist. One of my friends was killed during this time and we buried her because of **** like this that goes on on the road yet the arrogance of the average cyclist continues. Instead of people, from both sides growing up and realizing that the world is a shared place and should be kept safe and reespectful for all we get guys like you who argue on forums like this and just make it worse. Maybe one day the average South African will grow up, loose their pride and get on with making this country a better place. Until then we will continue to loose friends on the road and stay on the loosing side in the battle of the road.
  4. If only we all stopped pointing fingers at others and looked at ourselves...
  5. make it on their car's bonnett!
  6. I think they should force every bicycle on the road to have a license. Each cyclist will also receive a license if he wants to be on the road. He can loose points for bad driving as well as receive fines for breaking the law. After the loss of so many points he looses his license and is not allowed on the road. Multipe offenders face prosecution just s motorists do. There should always be consequences. Without consequences the law will be broken.
  7. Torque wrench. If you do not have one you may as well throw the rest of the tools away.
  8. 3rd world syndrome. 1st world countries don't want to buy last years stuff. They want and can often afford new current stuff. I think SA in general is the way it is because the average south african has a very 3rd world mentality, that being an inward self-seeking one. It plays out in all spheres of our lives and society. On the road, in business, in the service sector, etc, etc, etc. In business it plays over in that the businessman will take as much as he can. When last did you get anything for free in SA. When I was in the USA last season I was often getting stuff for free or at a huge discount because of things like slow service, waiting too long, regular customer, surveys, etc, etc. A very customer based society. It is all about service and keeping the customer happy there at any cost. Here it is the other way around. Businesses are there to make money often at the expense (on a human level) of the customer.
  9. Campy Shamal Ultra - you won't be disappointed.
  10. Read my post again. The point is not the damage but the incorrect model of wheels.
  11. If he really wanted them then maybe yes, but like he said he didnt and trusted the person. In any case, I think the issue is a simple one if the whole story from this side is all true. Snip should man-up (woman-up) and accept responsibility for false advertising and repay the buyer. It comes down to honor at the end of the day, something not often seen. She would not have a leg to stand in a legal case and she would have more to loose in legal fees.
  12. The more important issue is that the wheels were not as described. One does not have to notice immediately for the sale to be null and voiid as it was false and misleading advertising.
  13. I like Steven Segal's take on arrogant people: #$@& them up ugly!
  14. Bulls supporter! I think that is the first thing we have agreed on. Knowing this, you are ok Big H.
  15. You lucky you don't get called Spanner by the guys at the local gay bar when you walk past. At least Hammer I can still respect.
  16. Don't forget the most important use for a hammer. You can hit and adjust your stem without having to loosen the bolts.
  17. Riding in the yellow lane is not only consideration. We do it mainly for our own safety. In any case, I agree with Motorist on this one. That bunch of cyclists are going to piss people off and someone is going to get hurt. Any person with basic manners would be courtious to others. That group clearly does not have basic courtesy. They are also a very bad marketing campagin for MTN and their club. My advice is that Motorist should take their behaviour up with their sponsors.
  18. Campy Shamal Ultra with Shimano freebody. Awesome wheel. Raced then for 3 seasons now including one season in Europe on the cobbled criteriums. Still as true and as solid as when I bought them. You even have the option of a true Grade 3 ceramic upgrade for about R1500 extra.
  19. You are right, they forgot that and the little tube to give you extra leverage with your allen keys to make sure the bolts are tight. Just for interest, do you use your hammer to straighten rims or to get the seat posts in and out?
  20. I once bought my ex girlfriend a new bike. Not to mention all the dinners, etc I used to take her on and all I used to pay for. DOn't get me wrong, never expected anything back or wanted anything back, but I suddenly realized she didnt appreciate it at all when she asked me to buy her an icecream at the Engen. I said hey, lets rather buy a tub of Gino Ginnelli at the Spar for almost the same price as two ice creams at the engen. She told me I was really stingy and told me I should not be so stingy as I earn enough money not to worry about it. Short story is we are no longer together. So yes sir, take good care of a woman like that.
  21. Why would you want to use a shifting spanner on a bike. They are not very precision.
  22. The person on the right is a real idiot. We have a guy like him in our club. No matter what you say to the guy he insists riding in a 3rd line just so he can talk to the boys at the front. Bit of advice for motorists, most cyclists don't care how they drive on the road and they will not change because they have a low level of social maturity. Similar to the level of social security a selfish child displays who will not share his toys when friends visit. Motorists have there own issues in this regard though. Phil Ligget put it nicely during the Tour of SA earlier this week. He said that he has travelled all over the world and SA motorists are the most aggressive. That says a lot. We have a lot of selfish and angry people in our country. Socially immature.
  23. If you want to service you own bike, you need to buy the right tools. If you are not going to buy the right tools then maybe you should not be servicing your own bike. Poor quality tools will only lead to bike damage which will inevitably cost you more. Most important tools to buy in my mind are a good set of allen keys, the mid range torque wrench and the socket set. If you are not willing to buy that then will most probably end up damaging something.
  24. My magic gear is the one that my DA derailler settles on when my legs feel all nice and comfy again. Why on earth would youu want to only have 1 gear?
