  1. Maybe these are the guys ash is scared of. I reckon together they weigh 100kgs! Ugly stuff indeed!
  2. When are they going to put down some tar?
  3. Went to the range yesterday and saw some elderly gentlemen popping lead in a manner that I envy...
  4. It should be...
  5. Some cyclists are complete tjops (as are some pedestrians and motorists). Name 'n' shame..
  6. Yes - proposed legislation is not a law (or regulation) and cannot be enforced. It is merely under discussion. The amendment needs to be gazetted before it becomes law (and thus enforceable). So a motorist can drive as closely to you as he frikkin' well likes. Obviously if he gets too close and hits you, that's another matter... This legislation has been passed overseas in several countries as they can actually enforce the law, but I think this one will go the same way as the motorbike lane cutting. Locally it will be seen as unenforceable, 'cos our local cops ain't too good at law enforcement... I would like to see it come in, though. As well as a law regarding culpability in the case of a car hitting a cyclist like they have in Belgium.
  7. Better educate yourself first, Spinnekop. The law does not state this at all. Check out the National Road Traffic Act No 93 of 1996 (as amended). What you are talking about is proposed legislation that is sitting in Parliament which may or may not get through the legislation. Similar to the banning of lane cutting by motorbikes that was proposed, but never made the 2003 amendment...
  8. Yep - pretty annoying. But I got my LBS to give me a good price on the kit and a couple of my friends have also used it, so I don't feel so ripped off...
  9. I can't say about all Avids, but the Juicy Ultimates I have have no bleed nipple to use. You have to bleed them from the levers, not the discs. I tried the "conventional" ways 'til I was blue in the face and finally coughed up for a bleed kit... I also recommend using DOT5 as opposed to 4.1 fluid. I have boiled my brakes twice and the extra 70degC the DOT5 gives is reassuring. Get it from your local motorbike shop. If you have 4.1 do a full bleed - replace ALL the fluid and flush the system out.
  10. But then you'll only be able to ride on Apple approved roads & single track once you've paid him a toll fee. And you won't be able to share the experience with your mates...
  11. Nope - I reckon YOU should take responsibility. The maps were published well before hand and I made sure I was familiar with the route. I love one of Andrew Mclean's favourite sayings that he reckons pulling on a shammy is like pulling on a nappy. It's the best way to revert a group of adults to a bunch of helpless children. I found the organisation to be good and the marshals helpful and friendly. However, I do agree with the sweeper vehicle comments. The guys at the back also pay, and the organisers need to take cognisance of that. Phone or email the organisers and give them POSITIVE criticism (i.e. where did they go wrong and how do you think they can do it better next time). I have always found that when I approach the organisers this way, they are almost always grateful for the feedback. Or else you can sit in a corner b*ching and whining...
  12. I bought my Park Tools one from the LBS and they gave me a good price. Can't remember exactly what it was (some years ago), but it was competitive with overseas...
  13. Mike has never been known to be cheap - but in his case you do get what you paid for...
  14. I prefer glue. I also carry a little Vittoria inflator with sealant. It fixes most small punctures, but not glass cuts... Even with their drawbacks, tubulars are awesome to ride.
  15. This is not the first incident like this. I heard from my LBS that J&J (the Assos importers) are charging for the samples. Not cool. What do J&J have to say about this?
  16. I did my Jo'burg Critical Mass ride this morning. I nearly T-boned a guy who pulled out of a side street ahead of me. When I told him (politely, believe it or not) that he shouldn't pull out in front of people, he told me I should cycle faster. When I asked him to repeat what he said, he told me I shouldn't ride my bike on the road in rush hour (this was on a quiet suburban side road). Pr*ck... I then had to move across later on to avoid some potholes on the left. I moved out well in time and while I was passing them, a Volvo came right up my @rse hooting, screaming, swearing and throwing me the bird. And that was with just ONE rider. I hope the CT ride was more sedate!
  17. I rode in the mud at the Sabie Experience with Maxxis Crossmarks. They're supposed to be for the dry, but I had not problems....
  18. I have not had a hint of the flu for over a year now. So maybe my placebo is more effective than yours... Problem is - I don't know what it is.
  19. Just as well we didn't ask you. If you hadn't have piped up, we would never have known! Duh...
  20. Team "High"-Road is taken, though..
  21. I'm not surprised (or upset) after the k@k he's caused... Maybe he'll team up with Nolan...
  22. Thanks - I hope this solves my ascent and grade problem.
  23. I commute 16kms each way whenever possible. I used an MTB since I could ride off the road on bad sections, but now have a GT cyclo cross bike which gives me the best of both worlds. I keep to routes with good shoulders or parks next to the road and don't commute in the dark (my hours are very regular, luckily). I do not have a shower at work, and believe this is one of the most abused excuses. I keep a toiletry kit with me (face cloth, deodorant and hand towel). I make sure I shower before I go to work and then just wash myself down with the face cloth in the toilets (no - not IN the toilet!) when I get to work and touch up on the deodorant. As long as you are clean, you will not smell.
  24. Add to that a worn cassette and chain...
  25. This is called "emotional inertia"... The new site is awesome. The responsiveness is stunning - it beats the cr@p out of the old one!!! Well done!!!
