  1. Agreed it complete BS , I am 1.72, 67kg, 74cm waist 9% body fat , but according to Discovery I on the wrong side of the BMI chart ! So effectively they are prompting me to pursue bulimia I guess to get within their acceptable range ! And why nobody complaining that it got 25% harder to maitian your status this year !? If you were working the system already , then the only way to get more points is to spend more money with medical practitioners.. Discovery is BS , I am on Diamond and busy closing all my policies, life, health, credit card etc..

no insider info, but I will concur with what you have heard, it was the worst mtb race I have ever done in Cape Town. New one sounds better already.
  5. Hi Dale, I have been quiet strict lchf for a year and in that year steadily increased my training load and intensity, especially last month gearing up for Epic with 2 to 3 2/3hour tempo rides a week. All my training started out with water and this worked fine I thought, until I passed the 2h45 mark with avg heart rate 80% and above and I would run out of energy quickly, same result with races. I now think about what the race is likely to be, or if it a longer training session at higher intensity. Racing I normally get by with 1 x energy bar consumed evenly over expected race time combined with one 750ml 32gi drink, if they have baby potato or banana at water stops I will take some in latter parts of race, this combo seems to work well for me and allows for 3 to 4h30 race times at well above 80% heart rate. Training is water and a 32gi bar for tempo longer than 2 hours, interval sessions is water as I find the recovery in between allows me to stretch out the length of exercise even though I might finish with higher avg watts than equivalent tempo session that I do need to take some carb onboard. I don't always consume the bar, have learnt to work out how my energy delivery is going to be and if I do actually need it to complete session at correct intensity. I did attekwas now and was concerned about taking enough energy on so drank way more energy drink than usual, shorlty after 2 water stop I was hurling bright green 32gi everwhere ! Switched to water and baby potatoes at next 2 stops, nursed myself back over next hour, recoverd well and smashed last 3rd of course, 1h06 for 8bells section on Strava, finished 6h43. Lesson learned stick with tried and tested and once trained you can go hard on less carbs.

  18. Hi All, I have a pros sl on my road bike with joules gps. Torque raw reads 623.0 In.Lbs and Torque Offset 622 What does it mean ? I believe it should be between 500 and 530 ? Thanks.
  19. Hi Roux1, Question:: What does a remark like:: "I can do 2 hours or 2h45 with no carbs, very little carbs but in a race/high intensity session i.e. >85% of max HR', or "cannot last longer than..." means 'kannie meer Corporal ! ' excuse spelling ! lol. I can get to finish no problem, but cruising with light gears and no power for inclines.
  20. My comments on training and racing on LCHF, Have been doing it for 11 months, religiously, knowledgably and consistently. Have cycled on and off for 23 years now, done every thing from old school train till you vomit, train heart rate zones and new school power with 'rest' is your most nb day - all on carb lifestyle. For the record, for me 'power' was hands down winner in terms of time put in versus performance got out. I have come to the realisation, after trying to train and race with no carb on ride that as long as it at low intensity, I can train fasted and train longer than 3 hours. I tried water and energy bars only, which works in training, but come race's where I often am at avg 80 per cent and above with my max being 180bpm I would fade badly towards the end. Up the intensity and I have not been able to last longer than 2h45 I did Sani, Imani, Ride to Nowhere like this, and was pap towards end of every day often giving up places. Pioneer I started using 32gi ( diluted ) drink and their bar or hammer ( because they had the highest fat content ) , intensity was much lower on this race, but I was much stronger throughout stages with power to spare towards end. Just did W2W race, same story, 32gi but not diluted and energy bar, grabbed baby potatoes at second or last water stop each day (discovered I love these and the kick I get from them ) Felt massive difference and was strong through out each stage putting my partner under big strain towards end each stage ( finished 45 overall ) . For me it is clear , if I'm riding at intensity, I need carbs to supplement energy intake on bike. Outside of the actual ride in the above scenarios, I maintain a LCHF lifestyle.
  21. Awesome trails, awesome food and facilities, great event!
  22. in those immortal words... Not normal !!
  23. They originally advertised it for weekend past, perfect timing for W2W race prep. I was going to do it because of that. Then changed to this month end. I think a lot of people are taking a break post W2W and before gearing up Epic , or those who doing it. So in my eyes bad timing maybe ?
  24. MRI scan, he passed out a couple of times that evening, after having told Dr he doesn't feel right. Dr assured him it definitely only broken ribs, and maybe a bruised ego...
  25. No. But I have a mate who still in intensive care after having his spleen removed in an op after falling sun. Was incorrectly diagnosed with broken ribs..nearly died that evening from internal bleeding before they performed emergency op.
