  1. Stan,s arch .MK3 .Even with the crack reputation they are still great rims
  2. I had to abandon a buffelsdrift ride recently because of itching and rash over my legs and shins recently .The pollen count for grass and weeds are high for Gauteng area .Go to realpollencount .Aterax or variants there off work well .Allerway 5 {levoceterizine] is the active part of aterax and can be bought over the counter .It works better than loratidien
  3. But last week 30000 riders rode the CTCT .They could have cancelled the foreign riders and let the saffas ride .
  4. I have tried the rigid fork thing .I have tried the skinny tire thing on a hard-tail.I like front suspension and i like proper reliable tires when i am on a dirt road that soak up the bumps and makes cornering and keeping momentum through a ditch safe .If i buy new now,i will buy a modern hard-tail frame ,SC Highball,Slap on a 2 x 11 XT and descent wheel set ,with a lockable suspension fork and gravel bike handlebars
  5. Wider rims are better and they do make a difference to the profile so that the pressures can be lower .I used Stan,s arch MK3,s with 26mm inner width .And yes, they do have cracks at the spoke rim attachments ,but were solid all the way
  6. I used ikon 2.35 rear and nobby nic snakeskin 2.35 front last year .Pressures were 1.8 bar rear and slightly less front .I found it perfect in all conditions .I weigh 100kg and never had a front tire slip away .For climbing the ikon really has plenty grip and for switchbacks and turns the Nobby nic grips in all conditions .If i had to make a change ,i would put a vittorio barzo in front .The nobby nic has a softer compound rubber that grips in soft and hard conditions .This is my go to tire choice for all stage races so far and they have been perfect imo
  7. 7years has flown past .It is a primary school career .A high school and half of varsity time .Life unfortunately does not slow down
  8. I have both on different bikes that i ride regularly .I also weigh 100kg .Sram level probably has better modulation .I have had issues with my xtr tubing that cracked .Sram gave me new levers after a warrenty .XTR is lighter and is more for the pro,s ,but they got me through the epic this year .Get the best deal ?
  9. Some of the best and scenic gravel roads to ride and as safe as you can get in rsa .Plenty flat and climbing roads .At 5 am there will hardly be any cars exept for the early farmer or prroduce going to market .For long rides with plenty climbing ride towars barryvale from both sides .If you don,t take the barryvale road ,another 20km ,and return to Dias beach ,you will have ridden 70km with 1000m of climbing
  10. Enrty for sale Open seeded D R400
  11. I rode trailseeker Cullinan today .Plenty sand ,thick and not so thick ,but rideable .Also plenty rocky with marbels sections and gravel and some tar and graspolle .No mud unfortunatelly .TODAY I HAD PERFECT TYRE PRESSURES ! .On the whole 68km route i was thinking this is as good as it gets regarding tyre pressures .I weigh 102kg .I was floating over the sand and banging down the bad rocky descents .I managed to climb a really steep, loose ,marbles section with enough traction .On the gravel and tar it did not feel asif i was kept back by rolling resistance .So when i was home i measured with my 15 year old trusty joe blow floor pump and it measured 22 PSI or 1.5 bar both front and rear .My normal pressures are 1,8 rear and 1.6 front .This morning the tyres felt a little soft ,but i knew the route and just rode like they were .Use it or not .I just thought i will share my humble experience .Note ! I also have a ryder floor pump that measured below 20 psi ,18 psi perhaps ,but i dont trust it,s gauge

    Haval

Had a good look at one last week .At the price there is nothing better .I believe in a petrol engine .
  13. Well organized race in my home town .I cycle from home to the start .Thanks to the traffic department putting up with some serious upset motorists in the CBD .Raced in DL until the hilly part towards harties ,then soloed until i joined riders on the highway .I still cannot ride in a bunch at 60km/h going downhill .I think the route is as good as it is going to get this time round
  14. I weigh 100kg and never go over 2 bar .My go-to pressures are 1.6 front and 1.8 rear .With wide rims that is even better for lower pressures
  15. Sunlight soap works so much easier .Rather show me an easy way to remove them
  16. yup
  17. I rode 2019 and found the route superb .I would easily do Tankwa Trek as a half epic next year
  18. Can be done .Seriously ! Gearing and tyre choice are the big concerns
  19. For standing and pedalling they work better than normal grips .My other bikes don't have bar ends ,but i keep them for the SS
  20. I have a 120mm fork on my inbred .Works great !
  21. I have done both .If you can't afford either then i feel for you .I wish i could bikepack through europe for 4 weeks ,but i work for myself and that is too long to be on a bicycle anyway .Was 2019 Epic worth it ? .Hell yes ! Just the added discipline and fitness when preparing was worth it .Backpacking through europe in summer with my family .Now that will be really awesome ,but two weeks max .Doing joberg2C with a hangover every morning was harder than Epic anyway .Bikepacking in europe should be on everybody's ,to do list
  22. O bugger .My bad .I was never good with spelling and names
  23. I am on my forth indola .I like the many pockets and the padding is good enough for long rides .They also fit well and the material becomes soft and comforable .Specialized baggies are also a very good fit and robust .They are expensive though .Pearlizumi and Fox are OK and first ascent are the worst fit imo .In short i would buy indola any time and if i can find he correct size and colour spez ones i will buy them
