  1. Have been using a giant dropper for close on a year now, and it has been ok, though not totally maintenence free. Replaced the cable twice and put a new bolt on the seat clamp. Paid R1700 for it. It has only 100mm of drop which is fine for me, but does not suit everyone.
  2. Giba, also easy to ride on your own, and very safe.
  3. I have been fortunate enough to have done some rides in this area, its has fantastic riding, very spectactular and not easy, can be very windy ,very much off the beaten track where you are going. Did a recce for this race when it was organised, and I was very impressed, respect to those who go for it!
  4. Depends on what riding you do,only have one on my freeride bike for jumps and drops it makes sense. On my cross country bike I dont consider it necessary. On a trail bike I would use one.
  5. How much do these go for as a matter of interest? ]I paid R1700 last year so far very happy with it.
  6. Rhodes is far from the Cape ,kzn, Jo-berg, etc ,But it can attract people from all these regions, which would be necessary of this type of event to be viable. Correct me if I am wrong here but in my opinion its 8 hours from Durban, 3 hours from East London, 4 hours from Blomfontein, 11 hours from Johannesberg. The owners of Tiffendale need to consider if they want this type of event, or if they will open enduro trail there, not sure if any exists though. Its could certainly be an attraction in the summer months there
  7. I had a fantastic time in Morzine and will recommend it to anyone. Rhodes has the potential to be good in or own country, thou it could never have the same structure. .
  8. Top of Tiffendale 3000m (ben Macdu, excuse spelling ) Rhodes 1800m more or less 30km apart.
  9. What I know is Tiffendale has /is being reopened,as it is under new ownership. I wounder if a setup like Morzine could be used in either Rhodes or Tiffendale are used as the base start.
  10. A point to remember is that on most enduro"s you are allowed to ride the course before the offical event. Although not all the riders do this. I am sure this will make those riders who have never done an enduro before , feel more confident in entering.
  11. Also once tried to open and service mine, even dad a go at making a tool to remove the cone, gave up as could not get it open. The bike shops will most likely tell you its not serviceable. I found my hub freewheel bodies of that design were packing in so I rebuilt my wheel with hope hubs.
  12. started out like most people a sceptic to the idea of a dropper post, and was riding my AM bike with the seat at an in-between height ,good enough for the DH, and not high enough for the up. I bought the giant dropper, as it is fairly cheap and is off-set. Once you get used to it you cannot see yourself without it. I dont have one on my XC bike yet though.
  13. good idea, will appeal to some of the mtb riders .
  14. III also reached I stage when I realized that I should be wearing a ff lid.Mainly after a trip to Morzine, early this year 99% of the riders were wearing ff. I have reached a stage of doing fair drops ,and love jumping. I have the kabuto 1XA-C GM11 light enough to strap on your backpack for the ups, and very comfy. Not cheap a R3500 but Im very happy with it.
  15. I would not consider you to old to do it,I was older than you and also decieded I needed a change. I went to the UK for what I called a working holiday.Thay have tightened up the boarder control so you will have to do the paperwork.
  16. you may end up having to knock out the complete aluminium press fit cup with the bearing still in it. Then you can use a small punch to get to the outer race and knock out the actual bearing.Had to do this before, with the same problem.
  17. Was there several years ago, next to the main road, where there are shopping centres on both sides, there was a dirt road leading into the mountains, this goes past a huge dam, maybe try that road, used to walk there a lot.
  18. bishub trail, Giba, there are sections of it ,that each time I ride it I enjoy it as much as the last time I rode it. Also the new ,as yet not named trail is very good.
  19. My 40km xc bike is a 2008 anthem, which is the last year of the 3,5 inch model. The only major change I have done to it is to put a 120mm reba fork on it to slaken the head angle a little. The bike has done plenty of km (2 sani2c, trans lesotho, berg and bush etc) and still rides well as ever.I have no reason to buy a newer model,( but if it broke I would go for the anthem 650b).
  20. .Any business takeover is never going to suit all parties involved.
