  1. ok, will do, will take a day ,or so as I will have to find out how to upload pictures.
  2. Lyrik 170mm coil , and the old LX brakes, 203mm rotors. Used up one set of pads. DHX4 air shock, did run it a little harder though. Was very pleased with the way the mbuzi behaved.
  3. Just returned from Morzine.Had a total of 6 days riding ,would have liked more, but also went to Italy and did some riding there. The experience in Morzine was well worth the effort and cost to get over and there is so much track I would have loved to have more time! As I was on my own, and consider myself more of an intermediate level enduro rider, I was happly to ride the Portes Du Soleil trail, but also dropped down the Pleney, Chavannes , and other trails. My morewood mbuzi coped very well with the rough stuff and was up to the level of riding for me. I would have liked a full face helmet though, and that did held me back at times ,also the fittness level for the descents was not something I am used to .Have new respect for downhillers!
  4. dual air, as stated , you can tune the fork to your personal preference. Have one on my Giant Anthem, and very happy with its performance. Have not used the new solo air though.
  5. better off looking for a second hand 150/160 mm full sus frame/ bike and building it up. Then you can set it up to your style.
  6. Had a simular situation two weeks ago on a cane creek tapered headset two weeks ago. Found my bottom bearing had collapsed completely.Replaced both bearings, but either had play, or the headset was too tight, eventually fixed it by filing the top 'plate on the inside as it was griding against the lower OD top headset. Something I also found strange was the top bearing seemed very loose on the outer race in the headset? Eventually resorted to punching the outer race aluminium ( jippo thing I know) and it now is ok. Do a lot of jumps and although the headset is only about 9 months old it seems as thou they dont last very long depending on the type of riding you do.
  7. Will be at giba early on Friday, going to make an excuse at work to get there even eariler.
  8. Ride alone often. Many times at night, and never on the road.Take less risks, as more concerned about falling off and an injury, always ride known track.
  9. I have been riding my bike in the rain reguarly ,and also been washing my bike. The problem is you end up washing the lube out.I replaced my main pivot bearings 6 months ago, but was supprised to find last week the one bearings inner race was seized onto the pivot when I checked it last Saturday.I have fixed it but have decieded every three months or so I will have to remove and lube the pivot and check the bearings.
  10. Sani2c I would agree ,a reasonaly fit rider, can do,with maybe 100km a week training for say three months prep. Anyone done Joberg2c? interested to know how much prep needed for it.I am talking about a person who is more interested in enjoying the ride, not taking to much strain, but still ok middle of the pack pace.
  11. I went up to Richards Bay 4 months ago, and eventually decieded to leave the 26DS and take my 26HT,it was totally suited for the flat sandy track and dirt road for training on.However when I came back I rode the Eston 60km on the DS and I really think for most a DS is first choice if only having one bike. I would like to try a 650b DS some time, not much choice thou at the mo,as few avaiable.
  12. me,I would have all the above, but I always have a hydration pack, and never empty it,once carried a shock pump for a race that I had forgot about. If you are serious about time go light, depends how likey will you need it?
  13. giba had a very successfull enduro event this year, though only about 50 riders, speak to Jason,he can give you advice,it was the first time they had done it and they pulled it off fine.
  14. 12 I dont have a 4x4
  15. Have a meduim mbuzi, bought it second hand, from the day I first sat on it I realized the potential of it .Have a triple chain ring as ride it uphill as well as down, find it does not drop the chain.Had a 160talas fork which was in bad condition, changed it for a lyric coil DH with low speed a high speed compression, and went for 170mm,with a hard spring. It is well suited to the nature of my riding which is intermediate DH and I like jumping.Supprised the bike is not more common.
  16. ride giba afther work.
  17. thats a varigated(spelling!) bush snake, common in durban (harmless) cats often catch them.
  18. many good suggestions here!what about riding with a pair of your comfortable takkies, and no cleats, just to see if seat, cleats are the problem?
  19. I am in the training field(apprienticeships, learnerships, section 28 artisans, private students etc, we do it all)nothing irritates me more that a half committed student/learner,often parents come to me and spent a wad of their hard earned cash trying to help their kids, who dont seem to realise how fortunate they are, fact is there a few appeships around, and most people pay for training. If I was really interested in being a bike mackie I would jump at the chance.
  20. In our group if one person has a breakdown we help/push/walk run with him back!Once one guy broke his deraller and we helped push him back where we could.
  21. Running your seat back ,is not ideal, and I am doing this currently on my bike,as it moved your weight back,I am doing this as I have a short stem having a longer top tube (frame size) would be better.A sort stem is better for downhill riding, which maybe is what you are after,if more xc a longer stem is better,I am sure there are many riders who are more knowledgable than me to explain this in more detail.

    Done

I base my reasoning on the fact that I am 1,72 on a medium frame,it is ok size, but for you if you want to use a short stem (often considered better) I think you would be cramped by the top tube lenght (to short) but as stated best is to demo ride before buy.

    Done

To me I would think bigger, but I think you need to ride both large and small, and then make the call. Also depends on make of bike though.Help from a experienced person is best, as there is also other factors involved as well.
  24. To me riding downhill over rocks ,and the jumping I now enjoy doing never felt right cleated in.It does require a little time to get "connected "to the bike without the cleats, you have to move your centre of gravity to the correct place and the angle of your foot ,and that feeling of "bouncing " on the pedal with be overcome.
  25. ride my morewood mbuzi most of the time in all weather conditions ,did a bearing replacement 3 weeks ago R90 and did it myself.Have also a anthem and paid R600 for the bearings replacement about 2years ago,and that was just afther giving the lbs the stripped down suspension. One main reason I ride single pivot most of the time.
