  1. Indoor laps on the indoor trainer. It's still riding 🤪
  2. Thanks man, so far so good .... Good rides yesterday and today, just being careful to keep the chest warm (an old 'gilet between the undershirt and shirt' trick 🥸) and using a buff round the mouth and nose.
  3. As always illness arrives on horseback leaves on foot 😨 The trick to riding after being sick is to be smart about it I guess ... let's see how I fare 😎
  4. These type of things are not always rational and need logic applied ... Sometimes you just do stuff because you can, assuming you can (have the spare cash 😉) Will it make you faster or better? Of course it will, I mean you've spend a fair few ZA rondts and you'll have to justify (at least to yourself if no one else!) why you did it so you'll put in more effort! QED
  5. No 🤪
  6. My training partners not putting in much effort this morning 😳
  7. 'Pech gehabt', porridge wheel but not as cold as I thought it would be ... Broken tire levers, QR to get the tyre off and on, old timer hack I guess!
  8. Was just gonna say ... I've done it a few times over the years with no issues BUT And I mean this with no disrespect, I certainly don't 'shred the gnar' like many I see and admire! I'm a pretty average rider so I don't really test the limits, that's probably why it's worked for me those times I only found they can sometimes take a little while to seal properly at the bead ... Running 2 bikes with them now, Maxxis Pacer 2.1 on a gravel bike and 700x35 slicks on road rims on a single speed fun bike
  9. Hey its free so myself and many others have been told to stop moaning 😉
  10. Ai Chris 😪 - sadly my hardware is also no longer up to scratch since the upgrade to V5 I now use BikeTerra, also free, not near the quality and functionality that the other fancy ones have but works for me! I don't use it for the scenery or to 'race' anyone anyway, just a distraction to get through indoor rides on the odd occasion I feel like I need to due to the weather etc.
  11. Those who know the trails around the south of Jozi will/must know 'Smiles' Now four score and ... anyway a long time ago a good mate of mine and known to many Big Wayne taught me that this particular spot is the only place you need to brake on the way down! If you're looking up and focusing on the trail ahead you don't even have to cover the brake 😎 Anyway it's just always there at the back of my mind when I go there.
  12. It's like building a fire, every day you train you add more fuel. Then at just the right moment you light the match 😎
  13. If you want to play train your body, if you want to 'win' train your heart 🥸
  14. Hath been a most splendid week upon the noble steed of wheels 😎
  15. So cold on the Highveld the politicians are putting their hands in their own pockets today 🥶
  16. Anything from weddings to illicit liaisons happen at this small body of water in our suburb ... Just a short Friday afternoon spin after having grandkids all day .... Love them to bits but they can be hard work. 4 of them here various times of the day ranging from 2 to 15
  17. So if I heard correct .... The Specialized riders riding with gravel tyres and a win 😲
  18. It is oddly disconcerting but I just keep my 'chin up' and avoid looking down .... Besides that half a fork look as well of course!
  19. Chris I'm pretty much in that camp, thankfully, 1 year to 'mid' 60's, 36yrs of riding I simply use the same methods that I was taught by the older riders when I started, there were no bike fitters for many many years. Seat height and seat forward and aft KOPS critical everything else according to comfort/feel. My setup is probably far from optimal for power and stiff I guess but it is comfortable enough for me to do what I do. I have learnt that cycling comes with some pain here and there if you spend any amount of time on a bike irrespective of the bike itself!
  20. Ups and downs, twists and turns ... A bit like the journey of life I suppose 😎
  21. Ja ja Flippie ... But that's not the bike 🤪
  22. I have done a 200 and 400 on a road bike and a 300 on my Monstercross 'gravel' bike Given the choice I'd do it on my Monstercross every time! As @'Kaze Pete says certainly more comfortable care of the fatter rubber as well as less worry about road conditions. I didn't then, still don't, have the luxury of road tubeless so not having to worry about punctures was also a bonus! As mentioned speed is of minor concern, comfort is king when you spend that amount of time on a bike 😎
  23. 'eat less, poo more' @Gnarly ca. 2017 Slightly simplified but always works for me 🤪 I'm one of those that the strict 'caveman' approach works for BUT ... When I do longer endurance type rides/events I take energy bars/gel/juice during the event. Short intense stuff I don't bother and just deal with the bonk afterwards Probably not much use to man or beast though ....
  24. ♪ 'I see a little silhouetto of a tunnel, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, can you do the Fandango?' ♪ Yes I know, I know 🤪
  25. Mooi man!
