  1. So we set off with a bang last year, building the new Snake trails last year and repairing and realigning some of the older trails, build days were well attended and Tokai was riding better then it has in a long time. Now we have elected a comity in an effort to formalize activities and everything seems to have just come to an abrupt stop! I rode last night after a couple weeks break from mountain biking in Tokai for Argus training. I was shocked at how bad the condition of some of the trails are, eroded and overgrown etc. What are the plans going ahead The club? Fixing and maintaining trails? Planned building of new trails? Build days? I know there was talk of a controlled burn which was holding back so work? So then does anyone know what we can expect going forward...
  2. Could also be old or worn cable housing, or cable... Shifting problems can be a dark art at time!
  3. Keep a good eye one the classifieds otherwise. I picked up a Merida 904 with carbon fork and full 105 group (ex the FSA crank) for R4000 in mint condition.
  4. Tubeless has worked very well for me, no more pinch flats, and I can run lower pressures. I do always carry a spare tube just in case, with a pump. That way no need for extra sealant and plugs.
  5. Motor oil works like a bomb. Just don't over apply or apply to often or it becomes a mess.
  6. Make sure you get a 4 sided wrench, not just the 3.
  7. Also make sure you get yourself a good 4 sided spoke wrench, those 3 sided circular strip nipples like nothing else
  8. Look at CWC for IceToolz equipment. They relatively cheap and I've found of a fairly good quality. Got there cassette removal tool, cone wrench and cable cutters. Also look at the DIY tools thread on the Hub, you can make a decent cheap whip, with an old chain, and some steal.
  9. Seat the tyre with a tube, then undo one bead remove the the tube and the other side should pop back in easily when you inflate it again.
  10. There is a reason the Trance is so popular! My 26" is awesome, you won't be disappointed. On a side note, I always found Merida's to have a racey feel, my old HT was very twitchy at times, enjoyed it though.
  11. So finally pulled my fork apart on Friday. Found as expected my 30ml of oil in my air chamber! As per mtbr forums and Fox, I removed the foam ring from under the air piston seal, till I find a replacement scraper seal, topped up all the fluids to the correct level and upped the air pressure by about 7psi. The fork is now beautifully plush again and using more of its travel. Thanks for the thread and input guys.
  12. Gloves with proper padding sorted out my problem. Though I will admit I was getting numbness only on my road bike but was using my mtb full finger gloves. Bought some Giro roadie gloves now.
  13. Those fox links are really useful... if only I could log in! haha Thanks for all the help Droo, you guys are awesome! Took a spanner to my old 32 that I crunched between my bike rack and a tree, just to see whats going on inside one of these forks before I go do something stupid to the one on my bike.
  14. There is no F-series 2010-2012 OB RL on the website, only 2007-2009 or the FIT version. I'm going to go hunt down a 26mm socket, and have a look inside. I know there is hardly any oil in the left leg, so will go find some 7 or 10wt suspension oil too. If all else fails, I'll bring it through to you guys. Are you able to get that replacement seal mojoman was talking about, that replaces the foam ring in the air chamber? I'm going to remove it in the mean while, apparently that helps...
  15. Also still not sure as to what oil volumes I should be filling. Its the 2010 shock released as a limited Giant edition on the 2011 range, so I assume I should be using the volumes as per below from Fox... no. 23 with and open bath?
  16. What travel should I be getting on my fork. Should I expect to use the full 125mm, say once in a ride? The O-ring on my shock never seems to be travelling more then 95-100mm after most rides in Tokai, and I ride all the single tracks, some medium jumps and drops etc. I'm already running at 50 psi which seems low considering the recommendation is 70 psi.
  17. All helmets pass the same quality check standards, no matter if you got it from Makro for R150 or R 2000 from your LBS
  18. Anyone got a manual for this specific shock. Want to see how much fluid is required in which areas and how to go about checking levels.
  19. I'm wanting to buy a frame from a hubber in Roodepoort. What would be the best and most cost effective way to get it down to Cape Town? Haven't posted such a big item before, so not sure how to go about it. It's not an expensive frame so don't want to break the bank either.
  20. How much travel are you getting? I have that same fork on my Trance, works like a charm but has never used the full travel to the top. I'm 68kg without kit and running it at 50psi.
  21. I just use normal marine grease. Works like a charm.
  22. Schweet ride! All it's missing is a dropper.
  23. Yebo, use as a replacement to the fox float fluid that comes in those little pillow packs. Any gear oil will do, I happened to have a bottle of castrol in the garage so I used that.
  24. Ignore the trolls. It will work just fine. Go to the workshop and ask for cable and housing, they will sell it to you per metre and it's much cheaper then the brand names.
