  1. 92km TT from X! No help and only myself for company......Was good to chill and chat to Flymango for a while in Paarl tho. To the dude riding the insane On-One SS - man that was one awesome machine!
  2. What is the total ascent for the route?

    Die burger seeding

After not doing a PPA ride since 2009 and entering the race late this year I am starting at the back - X! Should be fun to see how many people I can pass!!!
  4. Bought my Garmin's from either Wiggle or CRC. Much better value than locally.
  5. What specific shoes are you looking for?

I used a fastrack up front and a renegade on the rear - no problems. Just watch out for some of the corners that are quite loose.
  7. My "recovery shake" is some whey protein (currently using 100% pure), maltodextrin, L glutamine, A bannana and a teaspoon of peanut butter along with some water and ice. It tastes a little funky as the Whey is strawberry flavour, with the bannana and peanut butter but it does the job!
  8. As a member of TMC this is the first I have seen of this proposed amendment through special resolution. Skubarra - please could you let me know in which newsletter this proposed change was outlined?
  9. Tweet from Graham Watson this morning: @grahamwatson10: Vuelta debate: I recall Evans' puncture in 2009 Vuelta - Valverde attacked; 2012 P-Nice, Leipheimer crashed on descent - Movistar attaced! I suppose what goes around comes around - memories are long in the peleton!
  10. A man went to the zoo. The only animal there was a dog. It was a shih tzu.......
  11. A different perspective of Sky's actions yesterday.... http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/ex-pros-back-sky-in-valverde-crash-row and this is coming from ex Spanish pro's.
  12. Well done Flymango - Kudus to you for completing the race and to everyone for toughing it out. I don't have too much to moan about - even in the race in the more competitive groups, technical skills can be lacking - It is frustrating to sit behind someone slower that you in the singletrack, but even more when these guys fly past you on the uphills. It's the nature of singletrack either descending or climbing.
  13. You will be spending 8 hard days on the bike. Why get even more fatigued on a HT. Rather go full suss and take the additional weight penalty over the comfort. I would rather ride an Ali dual than a carbon HT over the Epic terrain. Rode Jonkers this weekend with a mate and we swapped bikes for a part of the ride. I let him ride my dual and I rode his HT. It gave me the chance to ride the rocky singletrack with both my dual and his HT. No contest in terms of both speed and comfort for myself. The big advantage with a dual is that you can bull***t yourself as to how good a rider you are as you can usually get away with taking a wrong line.
  14. There was a guy riding the Epic this year with a internal Rohloff type hub (not surprising as they have been around for years) but with a belt drive. The HUD sunglasses are already in use (see DC Rainmaker 4i review). I think that we are not too far away from Electrical regenerative systems for electronic shifting and braking with ABS (with all componentry tucked away in the frame)
  15. Christoph riding a large and Burry a medium!
  16. Cycles Direct are open from 9am to 1pm tomorrow. Ask for Mike or Dean.
  17. NIce!!
  18. Why do they need to "engage"? Surely if they received R2.8m for an event to be staged in 2012 and this was cancelled, they should still have the cash available? If they don't.................liquidation????
  19. The Epic is a fantastic event and is really well marketed and promoted thoughout the world. It is a MTB event that is uniquely South African and is recognised worldwide. For that - there unfortunately there is a price. The Epic is a business and was run at a loss for the first couple of years, so to some degree, startup costs and prior losses have been recouped over the last few years. BUT on reading this thread I read the article on the mountain bike forum and looked at the increase in costs per rider from 2004 (R3,900) to 2011 (R14,500). Even allowing for a generous CPI+5% annual inflation adjustment, the Epic should be costing approximately R8,000 per rider..............My only conclusion for this is that the entry fee has been ramped up at a rate that was driven by the perceived value of the event. The availability of Epic tickets and the struggle to sell them is not new - this has been a factor since 2008. I think that as the event becomes more expensive, people are no longer willing to buy a late ticket and take a punt on riding the event with only a few weeks training. If I were to do the Epic again, I wouldnt enter through the normal channels, but I would train and then wait until this time of the year and make a cheeky offer to pick up a ticket at a heavily discounted rate. If you can afford it - do it - it is a great event! Personally, I wont do it again unless they move it back to the original format from Kysna to Cape Town.
  20. There is a guy in Cape Town that rides a MTB who has I think a Lotus Elise with a bike rack fitted - saw the car with a bike on the back at the start of the Epic. ....Class!
  21. I built up an Epic (2011) last year with XTR - What chainrings come standard with the bike as it doesn't say on the website? I bought the 42/30 crank and found that the 30 was too heavy on the legs when climbing. Changed to a 28 last month and feels a lot better, although I have had one or two issues with dropping the chain. My M Epic with Roval EL wheels, Renegade and Fast track tyres, Full XTR incl pedals, Easton stem and KCNC bar comes in at 12.2kg - so your 10.4kg is impressive. The weight saving will be in the crankset and the carbon wheels! The really nice touch on the 2012 bikes are the rubber caps for the ends of the cranks - small detail, nice benefits!
  22. Hope that you get better soon Tankman!
  23. Me too - is there therapy available?? I always gravitate back to a Fizik Aliante, especially on the Road bike and currently riding with the Spez Phenom on the MTB, but been through my share of Fizik's and others. In the process of trying to find the best TT saddle - any suggestions? The most comfy that I have got on the TT bike is with a Profile Design $50 special, but even this is not comfy over 80km!
  24. Er Willehond, nowhere on my post I condoned what happened. CWC will open on Monday, no one is in hospital or has died and CWC will have the damage covered by insurance. All I agreed with was that I would be pissed off if I had seen something heavily discounted that I had just bought. Why don't you take a look at the Tinkerbell thread and the Cape town Charity ride to see that the Hub is not full of spiteful crap. I guess I should have known that I would be flamed discussing CWC will stick to the 29" debate in future. My congratulations to the Toon this year - surprising everyone by how well they are doing. It is important to have both NE teams in the premiership as I don't think that you can beat the derby game for atmosphere!
