  1. I'm not sure if it is was good thing for me to have logged into this thread today.... Thanks, I haven't known about this!
  2. I can relate. I picked up ITB at Oceans, did everything possible which included HECTIC physio bills as well as NO running the three weeks before comrades and that helped me to be pain free the first 7kms of Comrades. By 20km I wanted to pee my pants... Edit: The month after comrades the pain was full blown back within the .first km of runs.
  3. So, as per the original post of this thread... Entries are opening in less than two weeks for the down run and the run down in the republic of the western cape...
  4. So just to be clear, if you claim a normal medical claim, it gets paid out of you Healthsaver first until depleted and them Healthbooster. If you want to claim your premium, gym fees or fitness devices, all of these ONLY gets paid our of the Healthsaver (the R160 per month) and it cannot be claimed against healthbooster (R840 per month)? So it might be difficult to get into a situation where you will actually be in a position to be able to let say buy a fitness device out of your healthsaver, as these gets used up for normal medical claims first? Well, atleast if you are in a position like us where the children is still small and the healthsaver barely gets a break...
  5. We were unable to run this past 2 months, so I spend the time doing all the different strengthening exercises for the glutes, core etc to try and get rid of this itb. The few times we have been able to run was itb free, up until a 15km this past weekend. It becomes tricky now as we are a month behind on our training program towards marathon in November. So I will have to cut on the mileage of the program perhaps to not make too a big jump now and trigger the itb again, but also do enough to not be totally under cooked for the marathon. I am going to sacrifice at least one running day per week and the other days try and cram in these exercises as much as I can in the evenings to continue to strengthen. I can really feel a difference and just hope and pray it stays away and that I can balance the mileage jump that is upon us. Has anybody had serious itb and got rid of it permanently? Please share the tricks or is it a matter of doing these exercises on a permanant basis?
  6. Enjoy. We've been having it for a few years. Between Multiply Online, Takelot, Edgars, Mango & Protea Hotel for Oceans, the credit card really takes a beating.... It's hard to decide if the healthreturns or those savings are my favourite! ;-)
  7. Eish..... The inaugural Heaven & Hell Mountain Marathon will be held on Saturday 23 September 2017 at Grace-Hill Farm just outside Rhodes in the southern Drakensberg. The Heaven & Hell Marathon is intended to provide the ultimate 42 km mountain running challenge in Africa, and is not recommended as a Comrades qualifier! The race is a brutal 42 km mountain run with 3 800 m total elevation gain over extremely technical terrain. That translates into 90 m elevation gain per kilometre; an amount of climbing which no other race in South Africa comes close to matching. The organisers have also not been able to find any 42 km race globally that includes as much climbing as the Heaven & Hell. The race has been developed over a period of two years, including a trial race with 14 invited runners in October 2016. The race is run at an average altitude of 2 200 m and the route has everything a mountain runner looking for the ultimate challenge could hope for – extremely steep gradients, ridiculously technical wilderness terrain, multiple crossings of the famous Bell River, two peak summits at 2 500 m, pristine mountains and spectacular scenery. A few sections of the ascents and descents will require scrambling and liberal use of grass tufts as handholds! Participants can choose to enter the 21km half marathon distance with 1 900 m total elevation gain, or the ultimate challenge of the 42 km race with 3 800 m total elevation gain, which will be the most gruelling marathon of your life, guaranteed. The 42km race comprises of 2 laps of the 21km race. The cut-off time for the 21km race is a generous 12 hours. The cut-off times for the marathon are 12 hours for men and 13 hours for women to ensure the safety of runners and marshals. The winning time for the marathon is expected to be just under 10 hours. Very few athletes are therefore expected to finish within the cut-off times, but those who do will have the satisfaction of knowing that they completed one of the world’s toughest mountain races and will receive an engraved Heaven & Hell sheep-bell. A preliminary cut-off of 9 hours for men and 9.5 hours for women will be strictly enforced at the 29km checkpoint. For friends and family members accompanying the 21 km and 42 km runners there will be a 8 km race (cut off of 12hrs) which follows the first section of the marathon route, a 5km fun run along the Bell River and various other fun activities for the whole family, including horse riding, hiking, fly-fishing, swimming and tennis. Please see attached route and profile for the 21km race. Also attached is further race information and route photos For entries and further information please visit www.alpineswifttrails.co.za or contact Hylton on 072 5292747 or at hylton.dunn@gmail.com Hope to see you in September! 8. Poobies still has some. We still have some here in Bloem at Kloppers as well. We run in the NB 910 and are also very happy with them, no issues.
  9. I can't see how people can do trail running with normal road shoes and you see it a plenty. I tried it once and it was only on a good gravel road, you feel every little stone. Trail shoes nothing, and you have serious grip as well as harder fronts to protect your toes from bumps against rocks. With all my wife's struggle with road shoes, that does not destroy her feet and toes, we cannot believe how perfect her 910 NB works for her. So comfortable and no issues. They are not that expensive as well. I hear Saucony Peregrines are awesome, but they are R2,200
  10. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you got smoked at R2,000 https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/?s=pegasus&post_type=product 33 - R1,150 34 - R1,550 But yes, if Nike works for you (and it works for most), they are one of the cheapest brands yes.

  12. Just saw the Hoka Clifton's now on Sportsmans website. Impressed with the price compared to what you pay for shoes like a pair of Nimbus these days! https://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/product/hoka-one-one-clifton-4/4498
  13. At what heart rate vs your max are you in dangerous territory of damaging your heart muscle? Or is it not as simple as that, as a number? I'm a bit concerned about what I did to myself without noticing a few weeks back. Only after I saw my heart rate profile and almost got a heart attack just looking at it, compared to what it normally is. It was exactly a week after I took antibiotics and I was obviously still sick in hindsight. Now I have been just focusing on exercises to sort out this itb and it is concerning how seriously out of breath I am of just a few lunges etc. Now hopefully it is just unfitness, but I would be lying if I said I'm not a bit worried.
  14. Agreed. I entered both on 01/09. What I wanted to say is exactly that. Don't sleep, because when you wake up, it is too late.
  15. Last year it sold out in the first week of Nov IIRC, in record breaking time. It may have had something to do with the 21-ballot system, perhaps forcing people to go upwards to the 56 and know they are entered?
  16. As Lexx said, 1 Sept, same day as Omtom entries open, so I don't want to hear excuses of you only went halfway and only entered for the one of two. Also, Omtom is no struggle to enter, just as easy as Comrades It's only a struggle if you enter for the pantsy less than half Omtom via the ballot system..

  18. Yip, also figured that out last year. The cm's is the way to fit shoes especially with the ones that differ in sizing, like NB. But then there are also some that does not display the cm's.
  19. Some nice deals here https://www.poobienaidoos.co.za/product-category/deal-of-the-week/
