  1. Nice light is the Sigma Karma - think they sell for 2200 - friend got one for 1500 though.... Depends on what you wana do. I only do night riding on normal dirt roads or jeeptracks, no tecnical stuff - and I use a Pedzel tikka XP headlight and a smaller Petzel tikka plus on my handlebar. enough light to do the transbaviaans and you ever have problems with batteries!! great cheap option. For tecnical stuff - uummmm - try riding during day hours
  2. Standers seems to share your problems with specialized. Sorry to hear man Thats not cool to hear. Gf just bought a spec bike
  3. Going to Paarl and then start the ride from there - dirt roads all the way to Piketberg area. And can always take the mtb on the road ... but thats just not cool - good training but bad for the tires and really hot. Can also do those rides on the roadbike - faster and cooler. Other thing is, I can go home and do rides there in the karroo areas arround worcester / de Doorns. Loads of jeeptrack
  4. Hey anyone wanna join? Leaving every day after work at arround 17:45. Leaving from Stellenbosch - riding up there - will be at the gate at 18:10ish. Its still light then, but we ride till well after dark. training for the transbaviaans - 2h + rides during the week, and 6/7 h + rides on weekends. Just enjoying the time up there and being out of the office after the days work. Don't have to actually meet, at night people seem to find each other up there with the lights guiding the way. OPEN INVITE - if we meet up there, will be cool to do some groupriding
  5. I think we should all stop accepting just the bit of extra effords - thats not enough. Why do we always just have to be happy becuase they are showing some highlights or just becuase they mentioned something about a race ect. Thats nonsense.. SA organizers shoul wake up - the Epic started out as a smallish event - and look now - ppl are willing to pay 25K onceoff just to be in the race. The Giro can be so much more. if the giro organizers invite more overseas teams and maby make it a bigger event - then it will attract more sponsors and more coverage. Same goes for track cycling and also other events. There should be more big events. Like crits and long hard rides. We got the roads and most weekends the roads are less busy - all we need is some new/or old people with a bit of willingness to make this work. Once you started a decent event and you imporve 1 aspect everytime/year - the event wil advertise its self. we have a list of MTB events in SA - great multiday races - some 24h races and other smaller/shorter great races. I love road cycling, but to premote the sport one need to have decent events all round the contry where we can all go and watch the pro's ride. Create something like the old rapport tour - get back to that. Race arround the contry in multiple different events. TT - TTT , Crits , Long races , and shorter stage races ect. Just need someone to start with a plan and move from there. Next year the Giro will still be there - why don't the organizers start now to secure a sponsor and bring it back to its UCI higer rating - Tour status ? Lets hope these guys - pull their socks up
  6. Manic Cycles - Franshoek and Worcester - Worcester great service! Otherwise - Stellenbosch = Flandria - very good
  7. Velotex = good or not to good ? What bibs - custom ones wlould you guys use - anatomic of velotec ?

  12. Heard from a friend there is funny clips out from the startline drama. anyone got a link ? Maby on youtube? Will have a look
  13. Don't use 1 bib 6 days a week!!! Have at least as a minimum 2. I wouldn't buy First Assent. Have heard now a few guys also (like my experience) finding them cutting into the flesh 6days/week' date=' 2 pairs, at that sort of price range expect 1 season's riding, more than that and you're lucky. Assos and you're good for 5 seasons[/quote'] Was not riding 6 days straight without washing. But yes its easier to have more and alternate
  14. Thanx. Still waiting for it - Picking it up this weekend or maby sooner. Work gets in the way you know.... thanx for asking Love the First accent bibs 2
  15. My First Accent bib's stitching started tearing loose after only 2 months of use... highly disappointed... My BBBs are still fine' date=' with the No Fear's stitching coming loose now, after 3 years of use... After 22+ hours in the saddle in 24hrs solo, my BBBs so far the best bib I've used... I didn't have a scaff mark or nothing... I rode a whole 24hr solo with one bib and did'nt have a hint of a mark the next day... on a SLR 135 saddle... [/quote'] Where do you get BBB bibs ? What is the price ? Thanx for the info, will look at them
  16. Hey. Was looking at new bibs, but need some advice. Had a look at the older bib topics - but everyone seem to differ. Do any of you use NOsweat bibs ? Friend of mine uses them and say they are very comfy and last long enough. Don't want to use assos on MTB. Looking for much cheeper to buy under 1000K. Had a pair of First Accent bibs - very happy with those(didn't last that long), but looking to see whats out there. What would you guys reccomend and how long should a bib last - if you ride at least 6 days a week? MTB and Road ASTANA2009-03-26 02:17:36
  17. How long do bibs last ?? What other brans would you guys reccomend ? What about FIRST ACCENT bibs?
  18. When riding past farm kids in my valley in the boland they shout ,, "Hou bene hou , hou bene hou" , or " Jirrrra, daai's `n befokte bike, met `n par befokte rims, jirrrrrrr" Impossible not to smile
  19. great to hear the reports on the bike. Why did you change to Sram RD - see lots of guys are doing this - new "thing of the month" or whats the reasons Grip shift is lighter - thats about it, O and easier to service
  20. Take the 30 bikes and hand it to the thieves/hijackers - will stop that for a while... Good luck ppl- nowadays one dont really get the support for stuff like this, specially from the police
  21. Thanx you guys... was just a bit slow on the reply on page 1, asked the Q and then he answered it in the mean while... I'm feeling clever aswell. Burned Mountain is everywhere. looked like a part of the jonkershoek contourroads from some high angle, but NO, its Villiersdorp. Was in a Rockfall / rock rain yesterday up in jonkershoek. The wind came up as we went past one of the burned patches and it was bad. had to stop and hide behind the side of the road / dirt face, to get away from the falling rocks and sand. not cool.
  22. Take to the mountains in winter time. Get the lights out and head out after work. Ride well into the night. If the weather does not play along - rain - take the road bike on the rollers and IDT. Warm up on the roller for 20min - do IDT intervals for 20min and then do high cadance intervals and cooldown on the roller. 1min flat out and chill for 1 min staying on. works wonders. Built leg speed and fitness with mountain biking. Keep road strenth on IDT and speed drills and balance and pedalstroke on roller
