  1. Yeah I agree, that is ridiculous. I haven't raced at all over the winter and my seeding has dropped by two groups because of that penalty system.
  2. Very sad story.. I can just imagine how scared he must've been lying there, trying to text his sister, and then slowly just passing out... It's very sad... May he rest in peace.
  3. I agree with you completely. Cyclist should abide by the rules of the road as much as anyone else. Even if it's just to be safe, never mind the reputation we create. Having said that, if cyclist are to be treated as vehicles (which bikes are classified as on the road) it is illegal for us to ride in yellow lines. We are obligated to ride in the lanes. But we don't. because we're considerate towards cars. Yet they still don't give a f*** about us. I think as a protest we should all ride in the middle of the road from now on! (I'm not serious, so don't do it)
  4. Bought a mountainbike retailing for R22 000 for R10 000 and a road bike retailing for R30 000 for R16 000
  5. All the best to the rider. That looks horrible..
  6. Yeah beyond black is sexy! Had a look at Vos's bike. Sweet ride! That Pina actually looks sexy with that paint job. Don't like their factory paint jobs that much
  7. I agree with the others. I've done this one a couple of times. Realy fun race and very well organized
  8. Ok dan het ek jou verkeerd verstaan. Ek dog jy moan omdat jy nie free stuff kry nie. Ek het nie besef dis eintlik die "nommer pakkie" wat jy bedoel het nie. Sorry man
  9. I'm just having a laugh. But seriously though, No goodie bag? That doesn't really matter does it? I 100% understand the rest of your complaints though. I really do. I agree, it sounds like it was a really badly organized race. But is a goodie bag the only reason you race?

  11. No goodie bags???? What is this world coming too!!!
  12. Well as soon as I can sell one of my kidneys, it's a go! I also had a look at the 3t bars and stems. Really nice stuff! Only reason i chose Ritchey, is because I've been riding it for years. I think you're pretty much spot on with the price of your build The Italian stuff is expensive! haven't really checked out the Speedplay pedals at all though.. Awesome choice of wheels
  13. Hey everyone! I know this is a bit random, but I've been dreaming and drooling for the past two weeks now on building my ultimate dream bike. It started off by thinking how I'd like to upgrade/ change my bike next. Then I started thinking how I could make it lighter and it all kinda went hay-wire from there. For me, this would be my ultimate race bike. It's based on my current frame, but everything else has pretty much been replaced. Components: Fondriest TF 3 1.2 Frameset; Zipp 404 Firecrest Tubular Wheelset; Ritchey Superlogic Logic 2 bars; Ritchey Superlogic C260 stem; Selle San Marco RegalE Carbon FX saddle; Elite Mejio bottle cages; Sram Red 22 Groupset with Quark Crank; Shimano Dura Ace 9000 pedals; Vittoria Corsa Elite Tubbies; Lizardskinz DSP 3.2 bar Tape and a Garmin Edge 810. Estimate Cost will be around R110k. Estimated weight (using claimed manufacturer weights) around 6.1 kgs (without Garmin, with pedals) http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/3665/7d4w.jpg I'm very interested to hear what you guys think of my build and of course what your dream builds are. It can be anything. Road bikes, XC bikes, single speeds etc.
  14. I am also leaning towards shallower rims. Because of weight. Like everyone has said, riding in a big bunch, it won't make that much of a difference. I strongly agree with the idea of getting the 202's. And go tubby! Surely you won't use an expensive wheelset like that just for training? Get some cheapies for training. Like Shimano RS30 or something. Having said all of that, to me, personally, deep sections are damn sexy. But don't go overboard. 60mm in my opinion is deep enough for a road bike. I still dream about owning a set of Zipp 404's.
  15. A little off topic, but what's the difference between soft tail and full suspension?
  16. Yeah fair enough. i get what you're saying. And that's one thing they do lack. There is very little communication between top level management and the rest of the staff. They're all just sitting in their offices most of the time. But when they do actually come out, I've personally only had good experiences. It's not so much the workmanship that bothers me, it's the way it's run. I had a bike built there once. Bought from them might I add. They said I could have the bike in one week's time. I went back after one week. They had not started building it. I asked when it would be ready, as I had already been waiting a week. They said the next day at 4. I went back the next day at 4. They had not started on my bike. They don't bother to phone. Eventually I said to them that if they don't build it now, I'll take it home and build it myself. After 2 weeks of struggling with them, I finally got my bike. To top it off, they had put the brake blocks in upside down and backwards. Waste of time if you ask me. I had my mountainbike there once as well. The rear disc was rubbing inside the caliper. 3 days later, it was "fixed". They had done absolutely nothing. Disc was still rubbing. Cost me hundred bucks for them to do nothing. Eventually just fixed it myself. I have no problem fixing and building my own bikes, but I don't always have time for it. And that's what a workshop is supposed to be for me. A convenient place that is quick and effective. I am paying them to do this, why should I have to sit with all these problems? Anyway, lesson learned. I don't take my bike anywhere anymore for maintenance.
  17. I agree with you 100%. Jnr and Snr both greet me everytime I walk into the shop. Always willing to help. I actually don't have that much of a problem with most of their staff at the Willowbridge branch. Just one or two who think they own the shop. And the wokshop... Pathetic if you ask me... But I don't use that anymore. But I still support them and buy cycling stuffs there when I need it. Have cycled with Jnr and Snr a couple of times and they are genuinely nice guys. Just a shame about some of the people who take their jobs for granted.
  18. Nice to read about somebody doing something good on here for once. Seems to be a lot of negative topics
  19. THAT looks lame
  20. You're story reminds me of a race I did in Woodstock once. In peak traffic, no rules, no nothing. It was fun
  21. Sorry, but what exactly makes that bike so fast? 72kph? Wow! It doesn't seem particularly aero.. And if it's not a genuine Pina, will it be as stiff for power transfer? Or as light with the old Ultegra? Rant over Amazing comments though
  22. Just came across this gem. No offense to the seller though. Notice the name? Nice wheels though. do you guys reckon they're real? Or does the name tie in with the products he sells.. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/62857-wheelset/
  23. Ooh! Shiny...
  24. Hahaha! Probably not
  25. That's pretty
