  1. That wasn't the point of the experiment though, was it? It was to determine which wheel accelerates quicker, with all other variables remaining constant. That is all.
  2. Read your first paragraph, then think about what you said in the 2nd. 26er - weight closer to centre. 29er - weight further from centre. In other words - it mimics the 29er vs 26er acceleration scenario. In an exaggerated way, sure. but the concept is applicable.
  3. sorry Porks. I was a tad overexuberant in my efforts to convince you of your misunderstanding. Bashing it in vs coaxing, I think...
  4. It's all of those, actually. A wheel with a heavy rim and light hub will accelerate slower than a wheel of the same overall weight, with a lighter rim and heavier hub. Fact. That's all they were trying to demonstrate.
  5. Thanks Cap. I knew I was leaving something out of the explanation. Linearly, the wheel, at the contact point, has no momentum. But it has not stopped rotating or slowed down...
  6. Yep. It stays in motion. Otherwise there's no forward momentum on the bike. As long as you're moving forward, the wheel has momentum at all points along its circumference. And at each place in the spokes. AH! There you go. Place the dot on the spokes. At any point in time during the wheel's rotation, does the dot stop? No. Same rule applies to the tire. It's just that the tire contacts a SINGLE portion of ground, as it is rolling. It doesn't stop then roll stop then roll... It just rolls. So yes, it does just touch one portion of the ground at any point in time. But that doesn't mean that the wheel is at rest. It just means that that is the contact point. The wheel continues to move through it's circumference, and then pulls away from the ground. At no point has the wheel stopped.
  7. Sorry - I realise this may be harsh, but you're wrong (and right) on a fundamental piece of the puzzle, as Cap says. The singular point of contact with the ground has nothing to do with the wheel's momentum nor velocity. It does, however, have something to do with the wheel's linear momentum in relation to the ground at the point of contact
  8. No. the part in contact with the ground retains angular momentum & velocity. It has to. Otherwise you'd have infinite sessions of acceleration to 30kph (assumed speed) and then in the same instant, instant deceleration. You'd be at rest, effectively. That's the ONLY time at which a wheel doesn't have momentum - when you're stopped.
  9. EDIT: Sorry, yes, from a linear perspective (as Cap said) this is true. But - the wheel IS moving, that's for sure. What you may be confused with is the linear momentum and velocity at the contact patch (doesn't move at that point, in relation to the ground) and the angular momentum (the movement of the wheel itself) But by the very nature of its motion, it still has momentum and IS moving, in an angular direction. If it stopped when it made contact with the ground, the entire wheel would stop. You can't have a wheel in motion and at rest at the same time.
  10. cos they have to stay upright. Doing it like this facilitates the same principles (rolling around a central point - the hub) without having to constantly keep it on track.
  11. WTF bro? Where did you go to school? Please tell me so I can keep my lightie out of it... Momentum is the same throughout the rotation, regardless of the position of the tire. What you're stating is just straight out impossible from a physics perspective.
  12. Precisely why my Spank Subrosa & Magic Mary combo will always accelerate slower than a 9er with Crest and killer bees. Especially if I'm in the saddle...
  13. As Alouette says. Just use your old chainring. If you're worried about getting snagged on the teeth, just grind them down so that you've effectively got a flat surface. Hey presto....
  14. BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I know I shouldn't be laughing, and some of those gamers get paid VERY well, but ROFL!!!
  15. Saw that the other day... Little bliksem looks like he's on hunter/killer mode..
  16. Sorry - i thought it was Hammie's onboard footage. Didn't see that section of the race, and I forgot Hammie went out with a puncture... On that basis, it was v cheeky of Rosberg to continue on that line, but also silly of hamfilstilton to close him off so abruptly.
  17. half inch soles on his shoes as a workaround, maybe?
  18. Fully. Rosberg had him on the entry to the turn, and Hamfistilton should have backed off. Instead, he tried to sneak back in to force him wide, on a corner that allows no movement.
  19. If it's in support of a rider, I can see why (like wearing a Minn branded WC jersey) as you're supporting HIM. But if you just wear a WC jersey (which unlike team jerseys aren't team specific) then yeah, you're a tjop.
  20. Ask Craft. They offloaded a ton of them. EDIT: The question, though, should be: "why do the public buy them when they know what Amabubesi represents"? As to that - it's a reflection of how the person views themselves. Look at me, I'm an Amabubesi! Or, as Wyatt calls it now (thanks to this) - Amaboepensie
