  1. Wolverine yes. Weirwolf no. I had to get the Weirwolf from CRC. WTB SA stopped bringing them in in favour of the Bronson, which is a different tyre (but still good, as far as I've read) Just go CRC, guy...
  2. Heh! Too late. And I got a little one just 4 1/2 months away. So I'm doing so many little projects around the house now. Cot / Changing table / Compactum / Bookshelf / Entertainment unit / Dining room table / under stair storage / stair gate etc etc. Thank fek I've just upgraded on my cell contract. Got a WICKED voucher from Game and scored a dishwasher AND food processor/mixer/blender Kenwood Prosper ting and only had to pay in R 400. And yes, the Haemmorrhage is just starting...
  3. Mehness... Used to hit North / Bay / Snake Park back in the day... Dawn patrol was the best way to start the weekend during schooltime, and the best way to start most days on holz... I remember sitting on the backline one drizzly day and getting thwacked in the head by a flying fish. Had to get off my board and tread water with the thing boshing the fish away every 5s.
  4. *facepalm* you didn't just call them flippers, did you? They're FINS, man. FINS! What do you ride?
  5. yeah... But even when "dry" the soil in durbs is still kinda loamy, so retains a bit of moisture. You still need aggressive knobs, and an all-rounder would be something along the lines of what I have on the XC bike - a Wolverine at the back and Weirwolf at the front. Wolverine has good rolling resistance, but still loads of grip for a rear tire. Weirwolf is a magnificent tyre at the front...
  6. Yeah, I kinda figured that. Enhancing Rolling resistance on a Reign? Pfffffft! You wanna hit things big and hard. You're gonna like them HR's and Minions dude. You get the Super Tacky's?
  7. Niner, those combos are WAY too "soft" for the riding that Leet does. He needs something that will hold up when he pushes his Reign to the max. Not something that will give him enhanced rolling resistance on district dirt roads but no grip when the **** hits the fan, or when he drops into the singletrack giving it horns after a brief downpour. In fact, I'd say that the only tire on that list that might suit would be the Mountain King. If he's going for a Schwalbe, it'd be the Muddy Mary that he needs to go for. Rocket Ron / Racing Ralph are just not grippy enough, and as for Crossmark... I pity da fool. For that - you need big, soft knobs. Minion is perfect for that.
  8. I do a mix of XC and downhill, on mixed surfaces that CT offers (much like Durbs) I find that the surfaces here get slippery at the slightest hint of rain, and so grip takes a higher priority than rolling resistance. So, I favour an aggressive tread pattern, with softer knobs up front. I also like volume a lot, so much so that should my back wheel (on the xc bike) come out of true even just by 2mm, it will rub the stays. I'm a heavy guy as well... I imagine I'd use the same setup in Durbs, dude, if only because it's so loamy and gets wet very easily during the summer & winter. Minion or Weirwolf up front, depending on the bike.
  9. Apparently its a bit different Ito timing, but once u get used to it it becomes second nature. Source: a whole bunch of articles from converted 9er haters
  10. Leet, listen to MH. All the other lemmings don't know how you (like to) ride and the "race" tyres will bore you or wash out on you faster than a one man motogp race. I run minion front and high roller rear on my dh bike (both dual ply super tacky) and they are king. On my xc.bike I run WTB Weirwolf front wolverine back and, again, they are king. For your style, I'd go the same as I have on the dh bike. You can get them from Action Cycles in town at a good price. And dont mess around with hard compounds... In tokai, jonkers etc u want it soft.
  11. Very easy.... I built ny dh bike up, and it was a breeze. Okay, I didn't build the wheels, but did everything else on the bike. Really, really easy. The only really specialized piece if kit you need is a bb spanner and a torque wrench (especially for those ti frames) and a few Allen keys and grease, and you're a for away. I bought all the new bits online, and raided a few 2nd hand stores for the bits that didn't need to be new (crank, pedals) and then painted it myself. Now i have a bike that I love, I built myself and i can take apart and service properly, all by myself as well. Definitely worth it.
  12. If you are stripping the frame yourself, why not spray it yourself? Get some cans of Enamel spray and go mad... Have a look at my thread on how I resprayed my DH bike. It really isn't that hard at all... https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/106914-the-transformation
  13. Yeah, I remember that store. Bought my Marantz amp from them. Little place in Fulham, just east of Fulham Broadway. VERY small shop, but LOADS of stuff and very knowledgeable staff. They helped me enormously in deciding which amp to go with my speakers.
  14. Disagree there, mate. There is NOTHING wrong with good old Alivio, or SRAM x3/x5. Those are built to last, and in fact are only just a tad heavier than their more expensive cousins. Yes, the springs might not last as long, but then they'll last a helluva lot longer than the XT of 5 years ago.
  15. Speaking of which - when is the next build day? Hey? Hey? Hey?
  16. FR'ers are just there to enjoy the trail. Not to time who can get to the top first.
  17. ****. Sorry bro, it was a hectic week & a half to say the least. My mother unit really needed help dealing with it... I'll be back up there in June/July though, if that's any consolation?
  18. I've got elixir 5s on my DH bike. They stop me perfectly. In fact, I have had occasions when my front loses traction during braking. And I have minion dhf super tackys on there. So no, they're not crap. They're only "crap" if they're incorrectly setup or have air in the system. Or. You just plain don't know how to brake properly.
  19. Only one way for thst to get fixed. Claim from your insurance... (assuming, of course, thst you are insured??)
  20. mostly... The old man is recovering well after his triple bypass, and I got back to CT on Wednesday pm. Amped for a weekend of riding after the madness & emo strain that was 2 weeks in Dbn.
  21. Nige, my man... We were both actually releasing some small globules of H2O from our ducts while we were closing the trail. I totally agree that it was an Epic trail, but unfortunately it had to be closed. It was a shame... But but but... More is coming. More as in better trail, better maintenance (if people put up their hands to help) and better experiences due to those improvements. We just need to tread carefully now. These next few months are pivotal ito the future of maintenance and addition to the trail system that is there...
  22. Scam. Adding R 2,000 to the asking price for postage, without even knowing how much postage will be? A son who is "schooling abroad"? Add the horrific grammar to the abovementioned indicators, and I'm amazed that you're even asking this question...
  23. Would love to, guys, but I'm up in Durbs with my familia until next thurs.
  24. That implies there was an actul story in ne flm to begin with...
