  1. u23 beat elite, think he deserves the jersey hey
  2. Impressive. The coverage was really bad
  3. Where? I assumed Cherise and Ariane would be riding together with the big new prize purse for women at the epic.
  4. We weren't overtaking any C riders in the last 5-10 km's... The bunch was just sitting in the other lane for no reason really. Attacks were going and guys were trying to shake wheels off by swerving left and right, and of course the bunch follows to hide from the (little) wind. The commissaire did warn us at least twice - he rode up next to us hooting like a mad man but the bunch didn't react at all.
  5. I raced in CAT 1 and must say I agree with the DQ. At times something like 60% of the bunch was in the other lane, and there was no wind so i'm not quite sure why we were sitting there. At least there will be no points(entire CAT has been disqualified) and this Sunday will be a fresh start, and i'm sure we won't be going over the line!!
  6. The ride in cafe just outside Jonkers( about 7km or so out) hire out very nice Specialized bikes! https://www.facebook.com/rideinjonkershoek Edit: http://www.ridein.co.za/
  7. Is it okay to wait behind them untill you have space to overtake/there are no cars behind you?
  8. Probs gonna ride to paarl on Sat (from stellies) to go collect my number. No collection on the day is lame I agree!!
  9. Hahah okay sorry I see. Yea I understand if routes need to be changed due to heavy rainfall etc. But then its the organizers responsibility to ensure that the reroute will be well marked.
  10. Awesome!! Well done guys!
  11. Sounds shocking indeed Jaco-fiets. BFScott, why do you think we pay per KM!? It's clearly not the case. The cost difference between the long and short routes definitely don't reflect this. I think we pay to have a well organized, hassle-free, safe and fun race/ride. Glad I didn't drive through for this event.
  12. Was about to ask if it's still 0% for cycling components... guess not? Edit: And reading a bit on I see it is. Yay!
  13. Any orders (in Cape Town) any time soon? Looking at building up a new road bike and quite keen on getting a frame, and possibly some deep sections. I have read through *most* of the posts in this thread, which would you guys suggest for a race geometry? (And for the weight weenie in me...) ATM i'm looking at the FM066. I really want something that resembles a Focus Izalco. Closest i've come is that - I dig the fat, round down tube! The FM066 BB is BSA, does that mean the new Ultegra (Bottom Bracket: BBR60 BSA) will fit?
  14. Wow that's awesome dude. Nicely done. Edit: Where did you have that done?
  15. Got some kit that i'd like to pass on too. Let me know if this box happens
  16. Save yourself some money and buy a bottle of Stans and just insert it yourself. A bottle cost as much as a topup at most LBS'. I screw off the top of the valve and then use a big syringe with tubing to put in more stans.
  17. Came across a cool study. Unfortunately need to pay to read the entire article so all I have for now is the abstract... http://journals.lww.com/nsca-jscr/pages/articleviewer.aspx?year=2012&issue=02000&article=00022&type=abstract " Abstract de Glanville, KM and Hamlin, MJ. Positive effect of lower body compression garments on subsequent 40-km cycling time trial performance. J Strength Cond Res 26(2): 480–486, 2012—This study aimed to investigate the effect of wearing graduated compression garments during recovery on subsequent 40-km time trial performance. In a randomized single-blind crossover experiment, 14 trained multisport male athletes (mean ± SD: age 33.8 ± 6.8 years, 40-km time 66:11 ± 2:10 minutes:seconds) were given a graduated full-leg-length compressive garment (76% Meryl Elastane, 24% Lycra) or a similar-looking noncompressive placebo garment (92% Polyester, 8% Spandex) to wear continuously for 24 hours after performing an initial 40-km time trial in their normal cycling attire. After the 24-hour recovery period, the compression (or placebo) garments were removed, and a second 40-km time trial was then completed to gauge the effect of each garment on subsequent performance. One week later, the groups were reversed and testing procedures repeated. The participant's hydration status, nutritional intake, and training were similar before each set of trials. Performance time in the second time trial was substantially improved with compression compared with placebo garments (1.2 ± 0.4%, mean ± 90% confidence interval). This improvement resulted in a substantially higher average power output after wearing the compression garment compared with that after wearing the placebo garment (3.3 ± 1.1%). Differences in oxygen cost and rating of perceived exertion between groups were trivial or unclear. The wearing of graduated compressive garments during recovery is likely to be worthwhile and unlikely to be harmful for well-trained endurance athletes.
  18. Those first 4 as far as I know didn't actually do the long race. I'm quite sure no one from the V-Z or S-U starting group over took the A bunch... Davies @ 2:19 in 5th won the race as far as i'm know. Not 100% on this though but we had no breaks untill the last 1km(the last little bump)
  19. Awesome Will this be in Stellies again? Will def come support. Will the MTB crit be open to all?
  20. Gonna come watch!
  21. Todays weather was just ridiculous. Not pitching I can totally understand. And who cares about the money. As mentioned, ALL of us ride for the fun of it(it's not like you win much, if anything, for even coming first) and if you force yourself to go because you paid R170/R300 and then sit in the saddle for 5+ hours cursing seems silly to me. That being said, I did ride and had an awesome ride. It was moerse tough and had a lot of moaning involved. But at the end of the day I enjoyed it and feel good for the accomplishment!
