  1. hehehe great one GO I myself had some veldrome fun with tubbies without glue' date=' same thing, the guys tend to stay away from you [/quote'] When I think back I was nervous! But the key to tubby's is to pump em hard! We would glue our tubby's early saturday morning with Pliobond...and then race with them in the afternoon on the track!
  2. I think the kit is meant to be gold in colour? But damn its ugly.
  3. But I made it very clear to the rest of the field prior to the Top Star start...and no one came near me!
  4. Dude...no jokes here, I won a kermesse with a Vittoria Corsa CX pumped to 10bar on my deep section rear clincher rim! To answer your question...before glueing just place it on the rim you are going to use and just pump it really hard. That usually stretches it enough.
  5. Nice pics. Nice to see the Walmer track again!
  6. Sorry to hear IanJ...get better soon dude.
  7. Bonking is one of the worst experiences you can have on a bike. It just cant be explained to non cyclists...thats the one thing I find frustrating! I've even hallucinated, seeing huge Big Macs floating in the air in front of me! (ok, thats just a joke)
  8. Dude, I once got to 2km from home and had to call my dad to come fetch me! The flat, tail wind assisted 2km was just too much! Another time, I bonked so badly that I actually started crying up a hill with about 10km to go! You are not alone....until you bonk, and then your VERY alone!!!
  9. Well I have not heard of any problems there personally. I've ridden there a lot of times, with a nine year old girl and been ok. (But she is like a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Missy Giove)...maybe I'm not a good reference!!! GreyOwl2.02010-01-05 08:00:45
  10. But I thought the FastOne was not at all important to you?
  11. Blue Max, you have a killer bike dude. Enjoy it, and be proud riding it. I always find that no matter what you ride/drive/own there will always be someone who will contest your choice. pay them no mind, and enjoy the ride, coz you have both earned it and paid for it. Nothing more to be said. I'm making a slight adaptation to Ernesto Colnago's favourite statement... "The best bike in the world is the one that YOU are riding"
  12. The funny thing is that I was a victim of the PRINCE fever. Paid the premium R55k at the beginning of 2009 for the frame and fork. Now, apparently the DOGMA retails for that price, and the PRINCE can be picked up for a lot cheaper now. (I've heard of ridiculous prices ranging from R39-R47k for a frame and fork...but thats heresay) Dont get me wrong, I love Pinarello. Mass produced by some Taiwanese folks...does not for one second change my mind. I loved my PARIS, and in turn my PRINCE. Absolutely brilliant bikes. Think of it like this...A Lamborghini Gallardo is 'mass' produced in an Italian factory by a German/Italian interest. Basically its a glorified Audi. The Ariel Atom...handmade in the UK by a bunch of genuine car enthusiasts. Its quicker to 100kph, will literally drive rings around most sports cars, and considerably cheaper too. Now answer honestly, given the chance which one would you have? Like the bikes in question, few of us have the ability to do them the justice they deserve. But its sure nice to own one. Shotlegs, the Spec's SL3 is a super hot bike. In fact, I'd go so far as to call it a 'Super bike'
  13. Dude, i'm so jacked we arranged a special rubber mat so that the wood floors were spared!
  14. Yes...it hangs silently in my bike room, awaiting its day in the dirt!
  15. I have to admit, I simply dismiss CycloCross because its a non entity here in SA... I do think you have to be seriously hard core to do it though. Like seriously seriously hard core!
  16. Um...who is Hanlie? I'm lost!
  17. Onetime...why should he be ashamed of selling him the bikes? If the guy has the cash, and has his mind set on 3 bikes there is nothing wrong with that. It does make sense not lugging the bike around with him when he travels. Good luck to him, and I hope he continues doing well enough to buy another 3 when the new models come around again. I can assure you that no one hesitated selling me my bike when I purchased it, hell I had 3 Pinarello's with Super Record within 4months from Northcliff Cycles...should Alex be ashamed? No! Did it make me faster? maybe a little...but I sure loved every minute I rode them. Lets not begrudge people nice stuff. AS for Colnago, I'm not getting into that whole "made in Taiwan" argument, because there are some (cheaper range) made there, but the EPS, CX1, CF7 et al are made in Cambiago. Been there, seen the process. As for Rabobank dropping them, it was the other way around. Colnago did not sponsor a Pro Tour team this year, but have returned to sponsor in 2010. Is it a romantic notion to ride a prized Italian 'Boutique" bike? Maybe, but who cares? If you want to ride a Pinarello Dogma with all the fancy trimmings then good for you.
  18. As i said this is merely a opinion. For starters the merckx bikes are made buy a guy (or he gets it made) that is one of the best cyclists of all time and now he wants to coin it with his "name". Nothing wrong with that and i wish him all the best. Pinarello has a rich pedigree that goes back yonks and its Italian (basically where the history starts). So i dont say the merckx is not a good bike but in my opinion its not in the same company (pedigree) as the pinarello Not so fast bud...the new Merckx and the current range of Pinarello's are all made in the same factory in Japan! A company called Toray makes them for the 2 mentioned companies, as well as a company called OPERA! But I dont think that makes them any less special. Pinarello until recently held the record for the most TDF wins until surpassed by TREK! But even then, thePinarello wins of Delgado, and 2 of Indurains were on French made TVT92's disguised as Pinarello's! Although Colnago have not won a TDF, they were the choice of Eddy Merckx for his earlier bikes...and taught him all he needed to know about building bikes! And they are genuinely made in Italy.
  19. Yeah, the Cx1 is phenomenal...better looking in my opinion than the EPS...but also very stiff. But, should you feel the need to expand the bicycle family, I'd be happy to sell you one!!!
  20. Mountain biking is for people who want to sit around, beat drums and hold hands while singing around a bonfire. Road is for us folks who are so up our own @rse's that all we care about is racing one another to the top of any and every hill. Truth be told, Mountain bikers dream of being roadies...roadies dream of being 'better roadies'.... (Please, please please see the humour in this post)
  21. I hear you FLEX...and i do tend to agree. For instance, the new Colnago EPS with Super Record will cost you R60k less than the Dogma...and it recieved much better reviews as a complete bike! (ok, that was my unashamed punt for the day!)
  22. Summit Cycles...I love your signature!
  23. I rate this bike big time. Had a PRINCE myself and it was a great ride. The only thing that puts me off about the Dogma is the glittery paint job. But hey, for a bike like that I guess you can live with a little glitter. Mud Dee is correct in what he is saying though, the Dogma did not score very well in that independant test. But thats only one persons view...I've read reviews to the contrary where they claim its fantastic. If this is a bike your considering, you wont regret it.
  24. I agree...saftey is a big concern. But, I also agree that swearing and shouting is never going to work. Whats the proverb? "a kind word turns away wrath and brings understanding?" I think thats the Proverb...if not, its the newest one in the book of GreyOwl!
  25. Sharp? Not! Strong? Hell yes!
