  1. Tried pressing "EJECT?" Sorry I could not resist...
  2. GO' date=' as I understand it, they have exclusive use for bicycle frames, of specificaly the Toray M60J fiber. M60J is about 35% stiffer than M46J. It is slightly heavier, but not much, meaning a stiffer design for the same mass, or less mass for the same stiffness (if engineered properly) should be achievable.[/quote'] Dude...I actually did not read your post properly! I understand now, and yes I do agree with you that Pinarello have exclusive use of the M60J. My bad! Please dont think I am bashing Pinarello, as I am a devout fan, having owned several personally. And lets face it, there are few bikes in the same league when it comes to looks. (if any) As for wheels/frames and stuff thats outsourced to Japan...is it that bad a thing? I've seen plenty Italian cars broken down on the side of the road, but few Japanese ones! So why should it diminish the appeal of the bikes? They clearly know what they are doing!
  3. Pinarello have exclusive use of TORAY? They wish! See the new Eddy Merckx uses the same 46HM3K Carbon from TORAY as the FP3 Pinarello! I loved my Prince, it was amazing. But I think they've pushed the envelope a bit far now.
  4. If your looking for Colnago in SA, the wait is finally over. Our new offices are in Aspen Hills, JHB south. Were planning to break the news this past week, but with the passing of AVH we thought the better of it. Keep an eye on the HUB and your cycling mags in the new year for our new range of EPS, CX1, CLX2.0 and others.
  5. I think its pretty cool. None of us will be complaining when Darryl Impey's wearing it alongside Lance. Lampre...now there is a kit that deserves abuse!
  6. When I first heard the news this afternoon I was shocked. I knew Alan personally, and looked up to him. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. RIP
  7. Jules, I may be wrong...but the bar you have on there sounds like a Cinelli 'Tempo' 64-40. Nice bar, had one myself. If memory serves me correctly this is still the old size, before Cinelli did the more conventional size. But like I said, I may be wrong. Nice bike though!
  8. Get dumped by a roadie by any chance GoLefty?
  9. What do you tell the insurance? That you left the bike in front of a truck in an incident of road rage? I don't think te will pay out... Then tell everybody and anybody and post pics on a public forum after you have had the bike replaced by the insurance company... Someone might ask difficult questions @GO - Your PRINCE is still 100%' date='I regularly ride with the new owner[/quote'] Ah! Good to know! I was a little worried until I saw the pics of the Shimano grouppo!
  10. That bike looks awfully familiar....
  11. Agree Aqua planning only happens on car tyres. Anything wider (truck) or narrower (bike) cannot aqua plane so slicks don't make you float on water (a major concern I originaly had until I was talking about rolling resistance to a physics guy and this lead to much discussion and wikipedia links). Funny how learned people make a lot of sense! I used to worry about the same thing...until I was given a big lecture by a bicycle tyre designer! Slicks it is...
  12. Slicks...your bike does not displace as much water as your car tyre. Slicks technically put more rubber on the road in the rain.
  13. Nice pics...I still rate Ronel Van Wyk is a hunny!
  14. I'm done already Kid! Yeah, pity they didnt have a one like mine! It was hectic...parked at the Michaelangelo...and on my way out had some numbskull cyclist in his X5 almost reverse into my car! He was paying no attention!! But hey...
  15. Ok...so the first day of the expo is here...and I wanna go do my entry, which is a substitute entry! Does anyone know what the story is with this? Whats gonna be required from my side? Any info/help will be greatly appreciated!
  16. I must say, I was pretty shocked at some of those pictures. I know its difficult to convey exactly what was happening at the moment the picture was taken. But we are to blame really. Yes we are entitled to ride on the road, but whatever happened to consideration? Consideration for others could just be the very thing that saves your @$$ on the next group ride. And, its not just in the Cradle. Our little meeting point in the South is also becoming a nightmare. At the junction of Swartkoppies and Klipriver, the cyclists literally block the filter lane prior to departure...and clearly dont care. Riding and blocking a lane is one thing, but standing chatting to your mate in the middle of the road is another! It does, it pains me to say this but we are a nuisance when we are in these big groups. Its a pity.
  17. Nought! Thats impressive. He never bailed? I think I have lost count of the mishaps I've had. Snapped my frame during a sprint on the track. Pulled out of a set of clipless pedals during a standing start on the track...landed on my gentles. (Not so much a breakage mishap as my own stupidity!) Won a road race on a set of Gipiemme deep sections that were clincher, but I'd just 'placed' my tubbies on them and pumped them REALLY hard! How I didnt crash, only the good Lord knows! Had a mate get his hand caught in the spokes between the forks after his hand slipped of the down tube shifters! Nasty crash, but helluva funny to watch! But the dude who lost his one nut still wins!
  18. Thats funny Slowbee! Is the Ciocc ready for JoBurgs toughest day?
  19. Tupperware on bikes is a scary thing when I see stuff like this! What make bar is that? Do you still have teeth?
  20. Dude...the stuff they have going could get a corpse to beat the six hour mark!
  21. Saturday afternoon track league, late '90's at HNP and while rolling to the start of the 1500m, Chunky's saddle adjustment bolt snapped. He just dropped straight onto the back wheel which left a nasty burn on the inside of his thigh! It looked sore! This is the same guy who while we are rolling to the start of our 1500m heat on Durban track (1998) turns to me and rather comically points out that his front wheel bolts are loose! I looked down to see the lock rings bouncing!! Scary stuff! And the same man had the misfortune of having a Campagnolo Ghibli rear disc wheel disintegrate during the last 50m of one of his sprint rounds during the 1999 SA champs! Comical stuff! As for me...I snapped an old TVT carbon fork in the last kilo of a race as a junior. Finished the race unaware, but when I lifted the bike to pack it away the fork dropped out of the frame, only held on by the front brake cable which was still attached to the fork! It took me years to ride a carbon fork again! I also saw a guy 'buy the farm'in a big way on HNP...rolled both tubbies! Turns out the shop he had them fitted at forgot to glue them on! He literally left a big long red stripe on the track! But hey, skin grows back!
  22. And finish Argus in record time as well! But, will you live to collect the medal?! Its a trade off...but like Bon Jovi said, "its better to die than just fade away!'"
  23. The three rules in cycling are... 1. The bigger the needle the faster the finish 2. The longer the climb the higher the dosage and finally and most importantly 3. The sin is not in taking the drug, its in being caught. So 'No'...there is no drug abuse in cycling....
