  1. Looks like we're going full circle? 8 years ago we got to 2.0 tires and 80mm fork travel, then 3 years ago to 120mm travel, short stem, 2.3 tires and wide bars. Are we now going back again?
  2. Maybe we can also make this an informative thread so that people are aware of the types of scams doing the rounds. I'll start: Almost got scammed today. Selling a soundbar on Facebook when a gentleman, Desmond Ngwabeni, DMs me and then we converse on Whatsapp. He says we can meet today - he will take the soundbar. The arrangement changes a bit and I end up meeting with his "cousin", but was told he will do an instant EFT. Meet with his "cousin", he then does the "transfer" but no money is reflecting in my bank account. He then sends proof of the transfer via Whatsapp and offers to send a photo of his ID and his address. I go get pepper spray out of the car (next to our deal location) and keep it in my pocket. Bunch of calls back and forth where he wants me to hand over the speaker but I refuse unless the funds reflect. His "cousin" ends up leaving without the speaker in a white Hyundai (Uber type sedan) - registration number CA 253 565. Their cell numbers are: 060 823 6345 and 079 356 7060 ("cousin"). The main guy goes by Desmond Ngwabeni the accomplice goes by Kai Matshaya I reported the incident to SAPS and reported and blocked them on Facebook and Truecaller. Would probably help if other people report them on Truecaller as well. Because I think they do at least 2-3 of these types of scams a day.
  3. You know what’s crazy? this (R7,500 saddle - used once): https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/saddles/583385/sw-romin-evo-mirror-155
  4. Hoe piss mens jou naam so weg vir die prys van 1 trollie kos by Woolies?
  5. So how do you avoid shrinkage? Asking for a friend.
  6. You know I've thought about the price of eggs for example. The price of truly free range, as in Boschendal free range eggs must be at least 20x the cost of normal Checkers eggs. Yet they only cost 2 or 3x. So that begs the question, who really has the largest margins?
  7. I have a crap set that I'm willing to give away for free.
  8. Any updated news/advice on taking out a mortgage for a property? Seems like some of the banks offer discount on the bond initiation fee?
  9. What a coincidence - my wife also cleans on Mondays and Thursdays.
  10. Rubbers at the bottom of the legs came off quickly and then started to curl upwards. Chamois seems okay but the lycra is bad.
  11. Bad experience with Vye from my side. Won't touch their bibs again.
  12. I call bull. Have spoken to someone who co-organises 1 race and some of the other organisers do other races as well. The sponsors basically pay for 60-70% of the costs and then they pocket what's left over after the entry fees cover the rest - which is quite a bit. I mean if you're only organising 1 event a year and you have to build a lot of the trails from scratch then sure - there's nothing in it. There's a reason the Cape Epic and W2W was bought by the Ironman group. Lots of money involved if your event gets big enough to attract proper sponsorships.
  13. May I ask what system you got? Edit: Nvm, asked and answered
  14. Great find Thought: Will a certain level of involvement in something like sport (owning a football club and supporting a few teams at the TdF), give an unreasonable form of protection to a country/political regime/individual with poor human rights records.
  15. I get what @justinafrika is saying. And it's difficult to be a completely fair judge and juror when it comes to our personal convictions on who to support and and do business with. Personally, I don' like the argument about no one is 100% clean so we might as well support everyone. I think it leads to less accountability and that's never a good thing. How far back in history do you go, what falls within your conviction? I don't know.. I don't give money to beggars. My experience with them is that 90% of beggars have some form of addiction and/or are too lazy to work. So by giving money I most likely support industries in our country, I most definitely don't want to support. And giving food creates a dependency on handouts. Not caring and ignoring the issue is however also not a good solution. So I rather donate to NGOs who I think are addressing these types of problems closer to their roots (foster homes, early childhood development, education, sport programmes, etc), instead of the symptoms. I know I'm not doing it 100% efficiently, and my reasoning isn't 100% rational but that shouldn't stop us from trying.
  16. Nice - thanks for the info. Will look into this the next time I do something inverter related.
  17. My inverter setup is nowhere near 4.8kW, so using a single 12.8v 100Ah. Bought it off Takealot. I assume 4.8kW is a 48v battery? Then R22k sounds like a really good price imo.
  18. I will never do GEL or AGM again. My 100Ah lasted 2 years with not a lot of load shedding. Cost R3,300. Now replaced with a Lithium for R7,500. Been very happy running computers, internet, lamps and the TV with stage 6 load shedding. Well worth it if you put any value on your working time.
  19. Where did you get this data? Fascinating.
  20. Email it to yourself and then it asks you the size you want to convert the image to.
  21. I use windowlene (or whatever is underneath the kitchen sink that sprays) and a plastic lever. Push the lever in, spray the inside, rotate the lever around the bar. Comes off easily.
  22. I would give Jannos at Evobikes a call and ask him when they'll get stock or where you can perhaps get something similar.
