I'm in a similar situation here, but will fortunately take enough capital to Oz to make house buying possible. The challenge of "doing it all again" is something I'm actually looking forward to. It's certainly daunting at times, but I'm more excited than scared at this stage.

Built it and rode it yesterday evening. For R4500 it's a damned bargain! Needed some minor adjustments on the rear derailleur indexing and limit screws, but otherwise it runs really well. The frame is quite impressive, and leaves some room for component upgrades down the line.

She got herself a medium. Seems pretty decent for the price point.

Makro Springfield seem pretty jacked, but most of the 20 bikes they received have been reserved or sold. My wife picked up a trail 5 for herself earlier today. It's boxed, so I'll be building tonight

I traveled a very similar road. Hundreds of thousands spent on trying to have a baby. We agreed to one final attempt (which I held zero faith in), and my (perfectly healthy) son is now 5.5 years old.

Fair comment. But his kids will have far great opportunities in NZ, that much is certain. I guess a lot depends on how well his relationship as a father works at a distance.

Most valuable is that Superamerica, but all old bike are appreciating rapidly. He runs them as much as he can (has 53 to run!), with the exception of the 3 GP bikes. They start, but they have irreplaceable parts. The NSR has a 500 hour lifespan on the crank - very hitech for back in the day!

I sure do. Also has a YB9, which mush be one of the prettiest sportbikes ever made. Apologies for the massive pics. Don't know why that happened.

I'll post some pics of some the other stuff once I've checked with him. He's got a '77 MV Augusta Superamerica and a Bimota SB1 and SB2 which are properly drool worthy. The prices these old bike fetch are amazing!

I previously posted about a mate of mine who collects bikes, and has some lovely ex-GP bikes. Can't find the original post, but I did promise some pics of them. Got to see him on the weekend, and he has some absolutely incredible stuff in his collection. Quite a few Bimota's, MV's, Rickman, and some very rare local bikes.

Damned fine replacement though!

Yeah sure, but I'm not interested in what percentage of their bikes have broken. The only statistics that would have any relevance to my point is the number of warranty claims (both successful and not) and the point of failure. To your second point, I agree fully that it isn't a design issue. But if the top tube is as fragile as Canyon has indicated in their response, surely this should be highlighted to all purchasers, and particularly to an owner who has already broken 2 top tubes? Which is kind of the point the OP raised in his first post...

True, but I never claimed there was a flaw. I claimed there were a lot of frames with similar breakages. Which there are. So whether it's a 5% issue, or a 0.000005% issue for Canyon is of no consequence really. 100% of the OP's frames broke in the exact same manner. IMO the least they should have done is bring this usage limitation to his attention after replacing his frame for the first (or second!) time.
