  1. I recently ran the Tokyo Marathon. What a disappointment.... I lived in Japan for 2 years, and managed to snag an entry out of a lottery of almost 400k people, total field selected was around 38k. Race takes place in start of autumn, but the day of the race was crap weather. Rainy, windy, cold. Waited in the starting blocks for 40 minutes in the cold with full winter gear, windy also with non stop soft rain. I pittied the Europeans that came there thinking it would be warm, dressed in summer running gear. saw a lot of people with a light purple shading from the cold. after the start gun went it took me 23 minutes to cross the start and then could only run freely from 16km mark. Then the real rain started coming down... after the finish I was so cold I could not even take my watch of my arm. Moer of a hype, but to be honest not worth the money if it is a marathon on your list. Running through Tokyo is interesting of course, but its basically a figure 8 out and back. On the same day, the Marakele marathon was held in Thabazimbi, my home town, would much rather have done that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK_HcpjHKDA Will go there next year as I am now back in SA
  2. I did CC last at school, now in 40-44 category, so looking forward to this. doing the 8k

  4. I did Tokyo Marathon earlier this year. we were more than 30k to start. Even with Japanese efficiency it took me 23 minutes to cross the start
  5. There is more traffic on this thread than the Trailhub website since it was launched. Pity that www.trailhub.co.za is basically not as popular at the bikehub.

  9. View this morning at 6:30 am of the full moon and Mount Fuji together. normally due to the humidity the mountain is not visible
  10. If anyone is looking for a real adventure, not just a race, we did this event last year. Highlight was sleeping on basecamp Everest right next to the Kumbu Ice falls. Would definitely recommend it
  11. They are similar but much smaller. In the movie, the puppy they used was actually a shiba inu, and the grown up was a proper Akita. They are like Cats almost. Demand attention from you when it suits them, and when they do not want attention they ignore you. Ours is a lot more cuddleable than most, so we got lucky. But when she does not want attention and you bother her, she goes into a permanent snarl. they are like small full of **** hair factories. you cannot believe how much this little 7.5KG dog can shed in a day.
  12. Our Japanese Shiba Inu. We got her while living in Japan, brining her with us back to SA. Crazy, crazy process...
  13. I won this competition in 2010. the only year there were no prizes. my luck sucks by the way

  20. Also in centurion on sunday a cyclist managed to get a away from attempted bike jack. as he was riding away a brick came flying past his head around supersportpark area
  21. Cant see so lekker on your map, but we basically came from waterkloof, crossing Hans Strydom at the Mcd's, going down the road in Pierre van Ryneveld ave. Basically below the bridge before you start the small drag towards Aerosud.
  22. Jip, it was me... Around 5:10 am, we were two, coming from Mcdonalds side, and they tried to jack us under the bridge. we only saw one, but maybe the rest was still setting up the trap. My buddy was about 30 meters in front of me, as I was on a mtb he on a roadbike. He managed to avoid the hijacker, and sped of, and I turned around and started sprinting away the way we came. Suspect #1 then turned his attention on me and started chasing me, screaming " I am going to shoot, I am going to shoot". He came to probably 2 meters from me, so if he wanted, he could have shot me point blank in the back. I set my new PR (seriously) going up the climb and stopped at the robot at hans strydom. Glad to be alive! went and opened a case before work, and gave it to the CPF leader in the area, seems they are planning to sort this **** out
  23. Jip, we went past on sunday as well. you almost get the feeling these days you are just waiting for your turn to be bikejacked.
