    +1 But also some surfaces will stand up better than others. More sandy (beach sandy) trail will hold up better than clay trail, as the water can percolate through better/quicker.

    I think the reason tempers have flared is because of the real dangers of hitting someone on the trails. Yes, the runner will most likely come off second best, but then the rider has to deal the consequences as well as the emotional trauma that comes with it.

    I think the point is that not EVERY trail needs to be smoothed out. A variety of options is needed/wanted. I enjoy the rough trails as well flowy foresty trails and fast smooth trails depending on what I feel like at the time. As Go Lefty says, the terrain has to support what you are building. With clever trailbuilding and lateral thinking, trails can be built to accommodate a varied skills set (i.e. A,B,C lines).

Was speaking to someone the other day involved with the Dungeons Big Wave competition this year and reckons the politics is way worse. You should look at your mates wrt why things were so tense before the committee selection.
