  1. I have a great idea for all the ex smokers that bank with FNB. Download the quitcounter (http://quit-counter.en.softonic.com/) that also counts how much money you have not spent on smokes, life saved and days, hours etc. clean. Transfer the money saved every couple of days to the 'savings pocket'. It is a very tangible incentive.
  2. my point exactly. The battery is almost surely be the first thing to fail. But not making it replaceable the supply themselves with endless stream of business. If you can be clever enough to put a GPS and HR in a watch or fairly complicated computer in a wafer thin display....surely you are clever enough to have a removable battery.
  3. Back on the battery issue. I change my the battery on my polar myself. R 20-00 and 5 minutes. Only tool needed a 5c. I do have a Nokia N8 and its battery cant be changed. I however do not intend to use it for longer than 2 years. To get back to the issue, and i'm not attacking Garmin so stop defending it so vigorously, who of you knew that the battery cant be replaced?
  4. oh, where is the topic on how to change a heading so that I can make it sound less aggressive? Some of the replies are a bit protective and it wasn't my intention to illicit defensive posts.
  5. Will send it in and see what they say. Like I said, we received different answers phoning in. Will give a update. otherwise there is always this option:
  6. That is great service. But once again not the purpose of this thread. I'm talking about the the battery change and whether that is common knowledge.
  7. It just confuses me that you would design a watch where it is impossible to change the battery. Batteries are renown for failing, so linking all the other hardware to a component that you know will only last so not very clever. This isnt a polar vs Garmin discussion as both have advantages and disadvantages that fit different people. Otherwise there would be just one company. What I am saying is that if they are upfront and tell you that 'Hey, listen here, a disadvantage of this watch is that it cant be replace and should it fail after 12 months you must buy a new watch', it will make a difference in the decision making process. Hell, I do not have money to take that chance. I have listened to Polar VS Garmin discussions, mudslingings (Capeofstorms?) and this is the FIRST time that I realise this fact of Garmin. How many of you did know this and would it make a difference in the watch you would buy?
  8. Ahooi, I think we found someone working at Garmin!!!! You, hey you, answer me!!!
  9. The call centre is in Pretoria....only the capeys are allowed half weeks!
  10. Oh, update. The battery CANT be changed. The watch only lasts as long as battery does.
  11. I love typing rant messages while being placed on hold. I am now on hold for more than 10 minutes waiting for someone at Garmin to answer a phone. I just want to confirm that my girls watch replacement is going to cost R 900-00. Yes, that is what they told her. R 900-00 for the 405cx replacement. The watch is only 1 and half years old. I cant believe that anyone would knowingly buy a very expensive watch knowing that the company will rip them off every 18 months. How does the other Garmins have the same policy? Does anyone have a solution for the 405cx?
  12. What about the VAT, Import duties etc?

  15. we finished within a minute from each other!
  16. I did it and enjoyed thoroughly. Couple of gripes. The organising regarding entries, picking up numbers eg were atrocious. No one knew what was going on and they didnt even know what day licenses were. Cheaper, but sure TSA wont be impressed. No sms, mail were send to tell us what time and where numbers must be picked up, what time racking is eg. The distance of the team event were incorrect on the site. The with an amazing venue like lourensford we want to do trail running. 3 km of the 5 km was on the grass field, extremely boring. The bike leg was fun though and great value for money, I like the shirt. me and my girl finishing up. http://alkaos.com/images/4682012_03_12_totalsports.jpg

  18. Duathletes who raced at last year's Cape Town event at Zevenwacht will be interested to know that the mountain bike course at new venue Lourensford Wine Estate outside Somerset West is a little easier this year, but is nowhere near flat. Elevation per 15km lap is 322m. The lowest point on the course is 102m above sea level and the highest is 268m. The terrain is a varied and interesting one on scenic gravel roads between vineyards, orchards, pine plantations and indigenous fynbos. There's singletrack mostly through dense vegetation, which will make for exciting fast-reflex riding, but still be manageable for mountain bike novices.
  19. Best is if you have a tri short. You cycle and run in it. Theres no place to change, so you will be nakid in front of the crowd. So I encourage it if you are a female, not if you're male. If you do not have a tri short you must make the choice of either running with a cycling short and looking like you deposited something or a bumpy cycle!
  20. oooo, info is bit sketchy for the event. Tried to enter 2 people last evening as the cut-off were 12:00 (pm), which I interpreted as midnight and the organisers as afternoon. Dont they know that there is no such thing as am or pm? Send everyone a mail Spoke to Andre that does the logistics and apparently you can enter on the day as well. Why is there no info on this on the website? Then I'm still waiting on all the other info such as number collection. Actual distance, the team still says 40 km. Racking etc. Does anyone know where I can get any info, all my mails is thus far unanswered.
  21. contact Chris, he got in a lot of lights at super prices.
  22. http://www.24-7adventure.com/events/stilbaai-triathlon.html Contact the Dominiee, he organises this and is apparently a nice guy.
  23. Because there is no authorized dealer except in Jo'burg this and the 2 oceans is the only opportunity to have batteries changed and equipment checked without being without you watch for a week. No special prices, freebees etc.
  24. it not about % of mhr but where your Lactic Threshold is. Some people low....others a very high % of mhr.
  25. HR between a 110 km cycle and half marathon. You decide which won looks easier. http://i.imgur.com/Z8MKx.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PE2KO.jpg
