  1. Which one? And what went wrong!? (seeing that they cost R2k+...)
  2. Awesome pics as always! Is it possible to #enduro with a hardtail? Like a 100mm-front one...? I want have a go at this - and the enjoyment factor always seem to be way up there (compared to the the typical post-race-singletrack-congestion-complaints of your average MTB race). I just don't want to write off another wheel...
  3. Here's a teaser for next weeks first-look-Friday
  4. I hope Cape Town's flat whites are better. Stellenbosch's Vida sucks. The staff is uber friendly and I like that, but the coffee is very average. Outside Vitality Active: R26 for a bland flat white at Vida or +- R20 for an excellent flat white at most coffee shops in Stellies (with a bonus of ambiance). I'll use my vouchers at Kuai. I probably need to de-link my pessimist mode.
  5. No app. The website. The only way Discovery allows my Suunto watch to upload... (okay, except via Strava...). But why did they do away with direct connections? It goes like this Suunto watch > Movescount > MapMyFitness > Discovery
  6. Went to MapMyFitness again - wanted to screenshot the process...but....my account has been de-linked. WATAFARK discovery? But my workouts have somehow showed up on the app (Strava I think) BUT on the website it shows my Strava is de-linked. Attempting to re-link "Your account cannot be linked at the moment. Please come back and try again later." Discovery, sort your excrete Edit: now Vitality website says; "We are unable to connect to devices and apps at the moment. Please try again later."
  7. On Points There is a lot of inconsistencies between different watches. I've noticed for example that on a Fenix watch you get your 150 + 50 "normal" points for HR-based targets, and then an additional 200 points or something based on your average speed. On my Suunto I only get HR points and nothing based on kcal or speed. I guess there is still a lot of stuff to sort out. On lost workouts / syncing issues I had an issue where only 25% of my workouts were logged. Turns out that the MapMyFitness auto-migration (Discovery links to Garmin, Polar, Suunto etc. indirectly via MapMyFitness) did not properly link to my watch. So I had to log into my auto-created MMF account from where I had to re-link my Suunto account before it logged everything 100%.
  8. I wish... But I have to keep the legs fresh and fit for the Lionheart 6 Dec
  9. Great stuff. Nou for the Western Cape version...
  10. "Paradise Gorge" http://i.imgur.com/dYUgcyS.jpg
  11. I *was* pretty keen on doing that one. Not so sure about the tunnel section...like 40 minutes or whatnot of running STRAIGHT and staring at NOTHING except for that spot of light in front of you (*ever noticed how hypnotizing night running can be?*). Anyways...scored myself a physio appointment - so I'm out. Have to rest that foot for the Red Bull Lionheart (still not qualified though)
  12. Eish. Would not recommend expect if you are very familiar with shoes that fit your foot type. ESPECIALLY when it comes to minimalist or low heeldrop shoes. Compared to traditionalist shoes (where fewer things can go wrong IMO). Things to take note of: General "feel" of shoe - can't get that on the interwebs.Size - within a shoe brand, sizing may differ across shoe ranges (looser trainers vs narrower racers)Shoe gait - do you know what type of pronation control you need - if any?Paying that R200 more at a specialist running store (no, not Sportman's or TotalSports...), can save lot's of $$$ from running injuries due to wrong shoes...Depending on where you are in the WC we could recommend a couple of places to have a look at. That said, have a look at: The Sweat Shop: Good selection of shoes Outpost Running - another alternative, but not necessarily cheap Poobie Naidoos: Cheaper than most stores - can recommend - I've bought from them a couple of times, but sometimes very limited stock. Sportmans Warehouse - only worth it if you have Discovery Vitality discount Cape Union Mart: Old version of the Salomon S-Lab's for cheap!
  13. Woah sounds like a hectic one. One day when I'm big I'll try something like this. Was this a pure orienting race? Was there a supposed route you can follow? Did people with GPS's have an advantage above others? etc.?

  15. Blasphemy!!! Keyword here is force. May you get endless joy of running on a straight road (and cars whizzing by). That said, this past weekend I ordered some road shoes from Flook. You know, for reasons.
  16. Joh this looks like fine. And challenging! Friends of mine did an orienting type race here in the WC. They took more than twice their planned time to finish the race. Good luck and have fun!
  17. That's why I like trail running! Having some FOMO now - having missed out on La Capra, Warrior Race and Gunrun.
  18. I still enjoy watching Sunday morning cartoons. Usually it's something like Family Guy, Rick and Morty, Bob's Burgers, etc. But recently I started watching Over the Garden Wall from Cartoon Network. It's a bit creepy and very reminiscent of Studio Gibli films (which I also enjoy alot).
  19. The Blue/Back combo is old stock: end-2014 model I think. The other two are the new models that came out about a month ago. The only difference is the colours, but also using the bike analogy: I won't pay the full price on a 2014 frame - even if the only difference is the coating! Somerset-Sport should have them or they could order them from Salomon themselves - cheaper than the concept store Poobie Naidoos also have the Black-Green ones for R1450, but not in half-sizes And on the Ultras: Don't worry what others think. I've seen guys doing the shortest of distances at a comfortable pace in the Ultra's.
  20. Resonating on Raab's comment. I also run on Sense Pro's - the most undermarketed Salomon shoes in SA. I've mentioned in the another thread as well about the nice combination of lightweight, cushioning and low drop (6m) (but not yet minimalist) which makes this a great shoe for both training and racing. The Ultra saves about 10 grams per shoe, and drops down to 4mm H2T. They're meant to last about 400km of racing. If you just do farm roads they'll last longer. After 420km in my Sense Pro's, the tread is at about 80-90%. Cushioning still fine. There are two downsides though: The uppers in the toe box seemed that they may see a blow out soon at my pinky-toe, so I duct-taped it from the inside as a precaution. (this is a common issue with lighter uppers and trail shoes used on heavier terrain). Also, I have the flashy blue / neon yellow ones which quickly picks up dirt.
  21. I would have posted a nice photo of a turd here, but not sure how that will comply with the Hub's T's & C's. It felt like they gave Tim Kring a $100 budget for the whole season - special effects, actor's & writers payrolls and all! I guess the younger me wasn't too phased by the technical stuff when the original series aired, but I do not like this new show. Also, the death of Claire Bennett - if she really is dead like they say, it was a very cheap move by Mr Kring.
  22. "entrants are encouraged to focus more on the trails and less on racing" My psychic powers senses a rage thread to appear on 27 November about incompetent MTBers clogging the singletracks
  23. No Claire Bear in this season
  24. The username confirms Also watched it, but kinda annoyed that there are too many secrets. They reveal a few things and then confuse you with even more!
