  1. Yeah, total financial game changer - and that money will trickle down into the league etc - make no mistake. If they can come up with a plan that makes the comp more accessible to other teams then I can really get on board with things. The whole golden ticket for life thing is probably all that still bothers me... but I'm sure a bit more balance can be found. Or at the very least, this can be a nice big stick to beat the bureaucrats with...
  2. Because we want to win the game this weekend The more I think about it, the more this Super League is weighted very nicely for the English clubs... a top 7 place likely getting you the equivalent of Champions League? I would just suggest, it's only the top 5 placed in the Super league who stay up each year, with the 6th team having a play-off with the next best team in the league... so in theory, potentially two teams changing each year in the Super League.
  3. Happy days! Actually fancy our chances this weekend a bit better now Pity City lost on Sat, not a team that you need motivated, but finals are funny things!
  4. Yeah, I think they knew they needed to have all their ducks in a row before coming out with it... You look at the power and support of those 12 clubs and you're looking at a guess, probably 70% of the worlds football fans... bring in Bayern, Dortmund and PSG and you're in full control. FIFA/EUFA of course panicking, but this is nothing more than they deserve. We live in a global open market and they will be just fine with milking World Cups and European championships for money still
  5. Still making my mind up on the Super League... Strong response and outcry from most fans, but I'm not going to be swept away and just go blindly along with that... well not yet at least. In general there is always a strong reaction to change, and it's hard to always see the long term affects, but these are the thoughts I have so far. I don't like the guaranteed status of the 6 teams... 4 or 5 maybe, but this nailed in for life golden status doesn't sit too well and I can see it not going down well with the Leicester, Everton, West Ham, Leeds of the world. How those 5 extra slots will be allocated I don't know yet, but I would assume another English team could grab one. I'm guessing the expected other 3 teams in the league will be German? Or maybe Bayern, Dortmund and PSG? I don't care how unhappy this makes FIFA... seriously, I've got no time for them. As much as I see people complaining about their clubs joining this league, I don't see any team necessarily having had the power to stop this... and I can only imagine the uproar if any of the teams who are part of this had declined. Things change, the world moves on, you adapt or die. $3.5 billion is game changing... as a Spur fan, we pay off our stadium in one shot, we hold on to Harry Kane and we upgrade our squad and hopefully our manager another 20% For the clubs missing out, I'm not sure they're losing all that much... with 6 English teams in the comp, they've actually probably got more of a shot making it into this comp than they did with the Champions League. You come 7th in the league and could make this... assuming there is a qualification spot available. The second thing is the trickle down affect of the money in this comp, this is next level and with the extra games, all these teams will be needing more players and probably be paying even more over the top fees for the best players. You will also have teams coming 10th in the Premier League still getting European football? It will be sad not to have the Ajax, Porto, Rangers, Atalanta, RB Leipzig etc in there, but maybe they will still have a fair crack every now and then. Lots to ponder and lots to still learn... but I'm not putting on my Doom and Gloom hat just yet - interesting times
  6. Got a brand new pair of Asic Gel Quantum 360 Knit in size 11 UK if anybody wants to take them off my hands. Will let them go for R1200, which is less than half of retail... Just sitting with far too many shoes, and far too little running
  7. I really miss the man
  8. It is indeed... if there were crowds in the stadium, I'd actually put money on you guys going through, but all grounds are pretty neutral these days and your defense is just struggling too much for the challenge tonight I fear.
  9. Was a cracker, crazy how good Bayern still are despite so many key players missing... Lewandowski on that pitch, and Bayern scored at least 3 last night. PSG probably should have had at least 2-3 goals as well. Still don't see them as a cohesive team though, which for me has always been their downfall. Don't see Liverpools defence being good enough to keep a clean sheet tonight which will see them fall out the comp, and I think City will finish the job against Dortmund... Both should be cracking games and put a little money into these fixtures which always adds a little spice.
  10. Find someone in a similar boat to you, and split the subscription... one of you on the decoder, one streaming. Works a treat
  11. And if that's even R1000 worth of kit I'd be surprised... my guestimates are around R800 This principal works if the box is worth R3k (as you obviously always get bits you don't really want or need) Sad that they appear to have missed the boat.
  12. Legend I'm too broke to make a significant financial contribution, but I do have some valuable paintings - we could auction off one or two if there is some interest with half of the money going into this pot? Battis, Claerhout, Christiaan Nice, Wessel Marais, Mel Brigg, Casey van der Leek, Anton Benzon etc Not sure if there are any art enthusiasts on here
  13. Anybody want the metal strap that came with the Fenix 3 sapphire version... just drop me a pm, no charge and it's perfect condition
  14. Taxi for Jose... he's too arrogant to adapt and still thinks the world revolves around him and his long past glories. The football world has long since moved on, I just hope we can move on from this miserable negative tw@t asap. Funniest thing I read last night... The Zagreb manager is in jail - but he's still better than Jose Mourinho
  15. Awesome stuff Cois... keep fighting the good fight. There's a whole heap of us in your corner!
  16. And that penalty... not in a million years. But yeah, VAR really does have it's moments
  17. We were absolute pants... I don't mind losing the NLD, as long as the effort is there, but most of our team weren't at the races yesterday... which is just sad. I mean the fact we actually dominated the game after going down a man tells you everything, pity it was too little too late.
  18. Morning everyone, hope you all had a great weekend Saturday was the much awaited handover, and it did not disappoint. Met Ricky, Queen and their precious little bundle RJ in Woodmead and took them through to CycleLab in Fourways. After our long struggle looking for a bike, Matt (Admin) through a connection at CycleLab, managed to track down a lovely Silverback 29er at their Pretoria Branch. It was sent through to the Fourways branch, setup with pre-slimed tubes and tyre-liners to make it as bullet proof as possible for commuting purposes... and then the massive cherry on the top - CycleLab donated the bike in full! Huge thanks to them for showing they've got a lot of heart to go with their other impressive offerings. Engela from CycleLab was absolutely wonderful in getting this all sorted, they also got Ricky nicely setup and dialed in on his new stead - and Andrew McLean even popped in to meet Ricky, have a little chat and do the handover... For a helmet I sorted out Ricky with a nice Bell I had, which luckily fitted him well, and then I also topped him up with all the essentials to keep him on the road while we were at the Lab. We (you guys) got him a pump, multi-tool, spare pre-slimed tubes, chain lube, tyre levers... the only thing I stupidly forgot was some lights, but I'll remedy that shortly. Also kitted him out with a little Anatomic gear - he's got a nice new bib, high vis top and then a cute little Mini-ones cycling jersey for RJ when he's a little older. Last stop was a graphic shop to get some black vinyl to tone down the flashy new wheels a little... sad to do, but we're hoping Ricky has many safe miles ahead. We do also luckily have the fail safe of bike insurance now thanks to hubber 117 (Martin) - hopefully we never need it, but Ricky is under strict instructions his safety is always number one and bikes are always replaceable. I then took Ricky, Queen and RJ to their new home in Tembisa - something some of our donated money also helped out greatly with as they've faced some bad luck of late which forced an unexpected move. Spending the morning with these wonderful, humble and hugely thankful people was a treat in itself and it was my privilege to do so. I look forward to updates on Ricky's riding and watching little RJ grow. Pics will go up shortly, along with a little vid of the handover. Thanks again to Brett (BuffsVintageBikes) for getting the ball rolling with this and to everyone for their donations and input. It's really great what we can do together as a community Have a great week
  19. Hat's off to Martin (117) who has, true to his word, insured the bike for the year ahead... I think we will all sleep a bit better knowing that is in place. Handover happening tomorrow at CycleLab, who have also come to the party in a big way (more details tomorrow). I will of course be sure to post some pics. Thanks again to everyone for their contributions, and in particular to Brett (BuffsVintageBikes) and Matt from Bikehub who have really pulled the strings behind the scenes to get us here. Been a real privilege to be apart of this. Have an awesome weekend everyone
  20. Anybody in Joburg with ideas on how to make the new bike a little less conspicuous with vinyl or something similar... please drop me a pm
  21. Haha... thanks Stretch. How many months do I have to complete this 40?
  22. Which would then be more aligned with my mileage
  23. We have a bike, a pretty cool one in fact (more on this later), we're just sorting out some logistics to get it a bit more local, and Ricky also isn't readily available midweek due to work - so the current plan will see Ricky posing with his shiny new stead this Saturday...
  24. Yeah, I really don't know what is happening at Liverpool, but they've still on paper got a very good squad... if they pull their heads out their a$$es, they can win every game til the end of the season. But yeah, weird witnessing this capitulation - they're unrecognizable to the team that swept all before them last year.
