  1. There is little point exporting a tcx file to import into GC unless it was recorded on a Garmin device. TrainerRoad or TTS4 files don't get recognised by Disco even if they are GC as the device type is missing. But if you want to you have to load it through manual upload in GC. The fact that it syncs to Strava from GC is irrelevant to Disco. This must have been covered 3,000 times in this thread already. Workout loaded from Edge500, points allocated: The device serial number is transferred in the tcx file. Workout loaded from Polar device in GC, no points allocated: Workout loaded from TTS4 tcx export in GC, no points allocated: If Strava links to 2 different devices both will reflect in Strava, despite being duplicates. So if you record a ride on a Garmin and then upload the tcx separately, duplicates will appear. When I was testing different devices over Christmas I would go on a solo group ride with 3 of myself.
  2. Plenty of that too. Hell, even had time to take photos like these. Only because I had endured the VRT.
  3. Do you have an ANT+ dongle for your iPad? Apple products don't have ANT+ native as far as I know but do have BLE. I solved all this different standard rubbish by getting a wahoo cadence sensor that transmits in both and I simply mount it to my shoe. Never missed a pedal stroke since. What is your actual set up?
  4. On TTS4 it is no effort. Once set it just picks it up and shows on the cadence part of the feedback. But it would be easier not to detect it and use the calculated value. If you run your Garmin indoors for Disco freebies it would detect anyway. I no longer need to do this as TTS4 has a Polar HRM upload capability.
  5. Modern trainers don't have physical cadence sensors at all. Tacx started with the Genius and have continued with i-Denius and NEO, Kickr is the same I believe. They measure the difference in the torque every few milliseconds and determine the cadence from your pedaling action. It is then included in the transmission of data via ANT+ or BLE. Nothing to do with the crank. Other than it has to be moving.
  6. Be more specific about danger point: Actual 80% or theoretical? 60 minutes at actual 80% is dangerous? I think we've all had races where our actual has been way up for the duration. And none of us is dead yet. Funny thing about the heart is it will stop you before it's dangerous.
  7. At 220 less your age set as theoretical maximum I doubt 75% - 80% of people will burn out at 80% of that number. I have yet to meet a person who does not regularly exceed the age based maximum. In my case I am lucky, my max says I'm 11 years old which means my Disco 80% number is actually 63.54%. In my case it's harder to stay under that number than get over it. But I wonder what their experts say when I do 60 minutes or longer at 101% which is my actual 80%
  8. MapMyFitness not a supported device since April 2 according to https://www.discovery.co.za/portal/individual/vitality-fitness-devices-apps Only Polar, Garmin, Apple watch and Samsung Watch are accepted for heart rate. Why not switch your Garmin on when on cycleops? Assuming you have one.
  9. Time to leave the Pain Cave? 5 years, 11,000km. Not even 1 puncture.
  10. Exactly. The lady she quoted gets 100 points for a gym visit. Put the farking watch on your arm and build up a sweat for 30 minutes and get 300 points. 3 times a week and 1 parkrun and that's 1,200 points. But I laughed at the guy who raced in 2 provinces.
  11. Wendy Knowler on Disco case today. Unethical scam artists is what she says. http://www.rdm.co.za/business/2016/05/16/the-moving-goalposts-of-rewards-programmes
  12. Same as Tacx Neo. No stock until July.
  13. http://www.tacx.com/en/products/software/gps-rides-advanced
  14. I pay $4 a kg on my airfreight from Europe. So $100 is spot on for this unit at 25kg. Excluding the R300 handle by the local courier company for logging my delivery on SARS customs system.
  15. Not comparing to the Hammer. Stating facts on the Neo. I'm sure CRC will offer a similar discount % on the Hammer when it launches in summer.
  16. The point is that every country needs to get the stuff to market from the factory, in the example quoted $100 was added for freight. Over and above RRP of $1,199. We accept it and make excuses that enables importers to charge what they want. But I have no idea what distributor margin these products have.
  17. Why add $100 for shipping? They are shipped to US too. Distributor and retailer margin should cover getting it to the store from the factory. I priced a Tacx Neo yesterday at CRC. R18k delivered to RSA plus VAT locally, That is not much more than the local distributor price.
  18. Yes, it's just under cover of the verandah roof as it's set up. The screens do get moved if there is a big northwester with rain but that's not often. The computers are inside the house.
  19. And if you're really missing the views that much just ride GPS Rides with Google streetview. Exactly what you'd see outside, same gradients, the works. But no cars.
  20. It's the difference between just riding and actually training. You hit in on the head in all the points you make. 5 minutes to actually training v time taken to get everything sorted so you can ride. No brainer really. BTW, different thread I know, but I see the Hammer doesn't have cadence built in to you'll still need a sensor.
  21. Interesting, no post in thread. Maybe discretion proved to be the better part of valour.
  22. No. I do neither. But I can't see how US$1,199 turns into R25,000 when distributed by the official distributor who would get a distributors margin from the manufacturer. Coolheat are the distributor for Tacx. I do trade with them as I do with about 17 other distributors. I am a Tacx Fortius user. But it's time to upgrade so I'm very interested in the new range of direct drive trainers, with and without flywheels.
