  1. Despite the fitting instructions stating quite clearly that you must be careful not to separate twister parts and don't disassemble? It's not that hard to put it back together if you did pull it apart. Twist the shifter until it's fully closed, place the spring in the home port on the fixed portion, the other end of the spring in the twister, line it up and push it together. The stop point is clearly evident on both parts. It's just like it was before you ripped it apart if you line it up properly.
  2. What we can deduce is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to hit a cyclist if you, as a motorist, observe a safe passing distance. Be it one metre or 1.5m.
  3. Last year one of the SP, Nashua I think, hosted a full on charging station with hundreds of cables. Unfortunately I have learned it doesn't mean they will be there again this year!
  4. What qualifies us on the hub to pass comment on how an individual chooses to spend their earnings? Be it through savings or borrowings? Surely life choices are exactly that? If Joe chooses to borrow because he has a strong income stream or Jerry chooses to abstain and only spend when he can draw the cheque, that is their choice? What gives us the knowledge to advise on how they make their choices? In a forum about a new finance channel? How are we qualified to turn a forum on a new finance company into a debate on economics and an issue that brains far superior to ours have not been able to solve since time immemorial?
  5. Shocking to read this on a day when one knows all your mates are out on the roads. Speedy recovery to the victim. Yesterday saw a big transport summit up north, let's hope the safe passing distance law gets enacted sooner rather than later.

It astounds me that neither Santa Cruz nor Cannondale have taken to internal cable and hose routing, instead sticking ugly cables and hoses on the outside of otherwise provocatively beautiful frames. Even the stealth dropper post hose runs outside before finding its way into the frame just above the BB? A bit like Annelien Kriel being seeing in public with Sol Kerzner.

From the Telegraph We should waste no sympathy on the driver who killed a cyclist while she fiddled with her satnav “She’s a wonderful woman.” “He’s the sort of bloke that would do anything for you.” Those are the kind of sentiments shared by friends, neighbours and family when a driver is convicted of killing someone with their car after looking at their phone when they should have kept their eyes on the road. As we report in a stark article today, fiddling with a satnav can be just as deadly. Victoria McClure took the life of a cyclist with a wife, two children and a thriving career – all as a result of her inattention for 18 seconds. But while the shared middle-class backgrounds of the driver and her victim make it easy for us to empathise with them, my sympathy goes only one way. We should shed tears for the daughters of Anthony Hilson, 46, who have been left without their father, and the wife who has lost her husband. McClure has a husband and children of her own, also deserving of a place in our thoughts. But the driver herself? She didn’t just make a mistake. No one who kills with their car as a result of that kind of gross negligence just “makes a mistake”. A speeding motor vehicle is a weapon in reckless hands. It doesn’t matter if that driver is a nice woman who bakes cakes and cares about her community. Fiddling with a satnav as you move down a road at 60mph is inexcusable. It is too easy to say: “But it could happen to any of us”. There's a common tone to these stories that focuses on the technology and puts the blame on the distraction of screens. There is something in that. Manufacturers of smartphones and GPS devices can work harder to prevent their misuse while driving and ensure drivers focus not on the screen but the road. But someone who makes the choice to get behind the wheel is willingly agreeing to take on a serious responsibility. As we might have predicted, a neighbour has come to McClure's defence. “No one deserves what she is going through,” he says. He could not be more wrong. Eighteen months in jail is a small price to pay for the life she took and those she has ruined.

  16. You are right, there is NO way you will get them to seat on the trial if you burp them. Even with a compressor I need to remove the valve stem and make sure I use plenty of sunlight soap to get them up. Having said that though, the rims are fantastic. But I can't see the point of getting a set of carbon hoops and fitting an inferior hub to them.
  17. As stated it is most likely the derailleur not being aligned with the 11 tooth sprocket properly. If it's not dropping down, loosen the bottoming screw until it drops and sits nicely without jumping. However, it could also be the wrong lockring being installed. I have had it where the lockring from a different cassette has been fitted, usually a 12 tooth lockring on an 11 tooth sprocket which results in the chain not dropping down and 12>11. Have also seen it with an Ultegra cassette trying to use a DuraAce locking (as the latter is shinier).

  20. I brought in a few 29er forks. TBH, I wasn't impressed, the geometry was that of a 26" extended for 29". Gave a very relaxed ride as it extended the rake and relaxed the head angle. Certainly not a Niner equivalent.
  21. Sadly every year about 5,000 people don't bother to turn up and don't bother with substitutions. Sold out in less than 6 days, must be a record. And to think there are those who think the entry fee is not justified for the closed roads in the most beautiful course in the world open to amateur riders, with dancing girls and spectators lining most of the route....
