  1. Have a look at www.carbon29er.com and save yourself a fortune that you can spend on your helmet, shoes, gloves and sunnies!
  2. Graham Watson was always a bigger apologist than Phil Liggett was. He lacks credibility as a journalist writing favourable articles about Armstrong.
  3. Try the PPA http://www.pedalpower.org.za/
  4. http://www.pedalpower.org.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Final-Jersey-design.jpgLike all hubbers I am outraged at the death of Burry Stander and wonder what impact we, as cyclists, can have on changing the way motorists behave. I bought a PPA pass safely shirt when they came out but, to be honest, have not worn it enough. I believe we can make a lasting impression if all cyclists where to wear the same shirt one day a week, advertisers tell us repetition builds awareness, imagine the impact of a highly visible message seen by every motorist passing a cyclist one day a week, all in bright yellow with the same message: give me space when you pass me. Let's use the memory of Burry to make a permanent difference.
  5. Merlin are one of the few places that offer groupset pricing, not just the parts all added together. At 13.86 to the pound I doubt you'd buy cheaper locally.

  7. Not possible as the matchmaker fitting is on both the reverb and xlr clamp AND on the brake clamp, and they are both not removable. You can only remove the clamp from the changers and replace it with the MMX fitting. With the grip shift you are stuffed and have to keep the clatter. Edit: Which is why I went for the PBR on the lefty! After the fugly Fox CTD remote lever on the bar!
  8. Hullabaloo in Pretoria are the South African distributor for Race Face. http://hullabaloo.co.za/Hullabaloo/CONTACT.html
  9. I know what you mean Happy, today last year I broke my left clavicle on our pre-Christmas pre-coffee ride. The nest 3 weeks were hell as the surgeon could only operate on Jan 6. A week later the Tacx became my best friend.
  10. Any way it's a crime to expose your ride to the elements (and the kydaars) on the back of a car or even on top of a trailer. A bike needs to be respected and needs to travel inside.
  11. If bikes on the back of holiday makers cars were to be an indication of what's currently hot we'd all be riding 12" or 16" wheel size.
  12. If you have the height in the van try do something that lets you keep the wheels on. Save masses of time and don't then have to anchor the wheels for transit.
  13. If you're putting all three in the straps are going to drive you crazy eventually. I have a bike trailer, like a horse box but a bit smaller. I mounted a bike rack on the side and rails on the floor, all my bikes go in securely with not touching or movement. I'm in the process of putting the rails and holder onto a slider so I can load from the back and push in.
  14. 26er tubes will fit all 3 wheel sizes.
  15. You will hate the taste of whatever you choose by day 7
  16. There is speculation that the new Garmin 900 will have live Strava on the device
  17. Had to add bad ass black cranks to my all black 29er.....

  19. No you didn't miss it. Who nose?
  20. This board is grown up. No one will flame you for the right decision you have made.
  21. I have a Fortius that got very noisy. The roller is a drum covered with a stainless steel band. Turns out the outer band was getting loose and the noise was it moving on the drum rather than with the drum. I fixed it by drilling out the anchor points between the band and the drum and filling them with epoxy. Once dry, the band seats properly on the drum and the trainer is as quite and a tyre on smooth tar. If you think this might be your issue let me know and I'll post the links to the pictures of what I did.
  22. Magster has a little air vent on the nose piece to stop fogging. I got the photochromic 18% to 72% lenses which cover 95% of my daytime riding and the polarised lenses for the really bright sunny days on the road. They are extremely comfortable, as are the Rydons, the genetyks and the swifts.
  23. Any more info on that, it sounds exactly what the doctor ordered?
  24. Depends what you term average. At 6:00 minutes to climb SuikerBossie you are averaging 18.5kph so a 11-25 will be fine. In fact a 11-23 will be fine as you will be able to keep your cadence above 90 on the 23 for the entire climb. The problem is that only about 400 of the entire race will do SuikerBossie in 6 dead. Which is hardly average. 7:00 minutes for SuikerBossie should be roughly on track for a sub 3. The average speed for a 7 minute ascent is 16kph. 8 minutes is 14kph, 9 minutes is 12.4kph and 10 minutes is 11.2kph. Longer than that is painful. So the simple way to work out the gears you should be running based on this info is to see what your cadence is when doing the expected speed. For a 3:30 you would probably ride SuikerBossie in about 9 minutes which gives 12.4kph. Which, if you want to avoid grinding it out, is an 11-28.
  25. Here's one near the beginning - advantage of the pink helmet - and I also had a pink number..... http://capcha.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/IMG_01261.jpg
