  1. Sounds like the "protection" version. Some of them are a pain to get sealed. The easiest way is to go the UST tire route. Or Tubeless ready.
  2. Depends on what you WANT. The want is bigger than the need in bicycles.
  3. That was what I was referring to. Kinda like a Merc with a Tata Land Rover steering wheel.
  4. I am not so 100% for the donor bike idea. If you want to build a bike, sure: build it. Why don't I like the donor bike idea? You already paid for the frame on the donor bike. The donor and the Pyga might not have the same size seatpost. You may end up with a new stem. You may not like the saddle. You will change the grips. What about the BB? a BB30? or a press fit GXP? or a screw in Hollowtec? Will the front derrailleur fit? Will you end up selling them darn Elixers in favour of XT's? And then there are the wheels. Are you going to settle for white rims? Are you light enough for Crests? As you have noted, there are a few axle options at he back as well. Will you never think of "upgrading" the seatpost or handle bar to a fancy carbon set up? So for me there are two options. Build it from scratch(lots of good deals on groupsets, forks and wheels) in the classifieds. The easiest on your pocket will be to buy and ride a store bought bike.
  5. So is this a twentynaaine.... No sorry forget it.
  6. Most likely something like
  7. Reminds me of the Prof in orthopedics who just HAD to see a 17year old THAT SAME DAY because "Jannie" had knee pain. The Prof asked the parents why it was such an emergency, since the pain has been there for a long time. The parents responded by saying that they think he might be selected for the junior Springbokke. The Prof asked the two parents if they were Springbokke. They were not. Did not even do sport. The Prof then said:"Nou waar het jy al gesien twee boerbokke het 'n springboklam??"
  8. What he said. I prefer a Reba.
  9. Some of these figures comes from the life insurance business. One good example is the measurement of your abdominal girth. They were looking for a cut off. So if it was more, they could charge you more, because supposedly it makes such a person more prone to dying. This magical figure then being 100cm. So at 99cm you are "safe". More than 105cm is FATAL. Whether you are 2.1m tall or 1.6m. Schwartznegger or Woody Allen Another sample is that you take your hight in cm's and subtract 100. That is your ideal weight. (For women hight in cm's minus 105) A BMI just gives you a ballpark figure. Much easier to do than calculating your body fat %. Anybody(well most anyway) with a scale and a measuring tape can do it without screwing up.

  11. Mankele Mankele Mankele Mankele Mankele Mankele. Second will be Mankele
  12. I do not really see the "you have to get Crests" thing. I recently bought a unused set of P-XC2 29er wheels off the hub for R1250. These wheels features a DT 350 rear hub(only 50 grams heavier than the 240s hub) and a really nice 180gr Giant oem 15mm TA. The rims are 500 grams apiece with DT Competition spokes. All in all a 1.9kg set. I also have a set of Crests (29er) weighing in at 1550 with Chosen hubs and DT Revolution spokes. If you ask me which wheels I prefer when I go to Mankele for the weekend, it will have to be the "cheap" set. But that's just me.
  13. Gaats Omie Hoekom sit Omie nie vir Omie 'n advertensie in die "classifieds" nie? Dis mahala Of maak soos CWC en BETAAL vir Omie se advertensie nie? Groetnis Nefie
  14. This is the gear ratio calculator I use http://www.j-berkemeier.de/Ritzelrechner.html
  15. A LOT. I have built bikes off the stuff I bought. A frame 2x brake sets 2x rotors Wheels Rims Hubs Saddles Stems Bars Forks Chains, cassettes, pedals, derailleurs, grips, bar ends, tires and the list goes on. Fact is the last bike I built up was mostly off the hub. A few things I got from the lbs: the frame, alloy nipples, rims and cables. The spokes came from CRC. My Santa Cruz Highball with XT crank, brakes and X9 shifts, Reba fork and Crest wheels cost me less than R30k. 50% of the stuff came off new bikes. The rest was still in original packages.
  16. A while ago one of my friends asked me to help him with his jumping chain. I tried most "easy" remedies. Then I put on my reading glasses. I asked him about the history of the chain. He said he changed it recently. It turned out that he tried to run a 7/8 speed chain on a 9 speed cassette.

  18. I buy the one I like. The latest was black, the previous was green. A better answer may be had in the "Buyers guide" section. How did this end up in "Training and Nutrition"?
  19. Are you into marketing or something? All those siency sounding b/s words: "skillful use of tecnology", "understanding the diff's in quality of carbon". And then the personalisation:"...that OUR sport is a simple one." Use the "search" function. This is the Training and nutrition forum. Go to the Tech Q&A, or Buyers guide. Come to think of it. Some guys called this SPAM. Maybe that is why this topic ended up in the wrong forum.
  20. I don't get it. What can a 99.92kg (BMI>30) guy possibly gain by riding a wheelset rated for MAX 85kg's. For 200 grams more you can get a set rated for your weight. You don't see Golf GTI's comming out with SR rated tires(for up to 180km/h). They come out with VR ratings(up to 210km/h) I am 75kg's. I nearly DUMPED the 29er project because of stupid light wheels(1.54 kg). As a last effort, I bought a set of Giant OEM P-XC2 wheels off the hub (1.9 kg). The whole nature of the bike changed. I took them to Mankele this weekend an let them have it. This was what I was looking for. I prefer solid wheels. I will keep the Crests for something like the Crater Cruise. Horses for courses.
  21. You will see that the established brands like Cannondale, Giant and Scott fight shy of superlight rims like Crests. Because they KNOW that bigger (I did not say fat) guys and gals will purchase their bikes. And they do not want law suits. They will spec Arch. The smaller brands will through in these wheels to boost sales and hope that the riders finesse them because they know of their limitations.
