  1. Guys this race is organised by professionals not a bunch of palookas. If they pulled the plug they did it after due consideration and with good reason. I asked a mate of mine who was riding what the deal was and quote him below: "Dude, dis was hectic. Alles het verspoel en die single tracks was deurmekaar. So dit was ‘n redelike positiewe besluit om die kanseleer, want dit sou te gevaarlik gewees het. Die emergency services het basies die plug getrek, want hulle sou nie orals met hulle vehicles kon inkom nie. Ek dink ook ons sou al die trails op gemors het……" Anyway I'd hate to think what yesterdays downpours would have done to the lowlying areas like Botrivier which is wet even in dry season. That all said I'm glad I wasn't meant to be riding, getting a 3 dayer cut short would make me sad on all fronts.
  2. Onrus beach gets a crazy beach break with a massive ripcurrent on the right..RIP dudes, sad indeed.

    argus entry

A month before Argus there are loads available from guys who can't make it, if you wait till then you are pretty much guaranteed to get one off the hub.
  4. Oury grips...my favourite! That bike looks to be in excellent condition, you are going to love it.
  5. PM ETXEONDO on the Hub for a killer price on imported ETXEONDO bibs.
  6. Well I tried the juice riding my singlespeed at the Eselfontein 70km last weekend and I only came like 10th last instead of dead last so I'm giving it a solid thumbs up. I also like the taste, in fact I like it so much that I rode back to one of the waterpoints where I had forgotten my bottle after mixing up a double dose of the magic doepa.
  7. The Enduren juice rocks.
  8. Or another set of light wheels and skinny tires for that odd occasion...I did that on my Heckler which is essentially a very similar bike to the Shova for Trans Baviaans and it did the job beautifully.

    Frame Saver

Apparently you'll have to re-apply every few months if you use WD40 whereas Boeshield or Frame Saver leaves a waxy residue which doesn't wash off or "run" at all.
  10. BMT are the Felt dealers in Stellenbosch, there's an outside chance that they know or remember who the bike was sold to, I've mailed them a link to this post.

    Frame Saver

Shite I see they only have a 1 gallon drum of the stuff available...will see if I can source a local supplier.

    Frame Saver

I'm in the process of getting the kit together to build up a Reynolds 853 steel Niner MCR. In the Niner owners manual they strongly recommend using the following product on their steel frames - JD Weigle's "Frame Saver" which is a coating sprayed into steel tubing to prohibit the tubes rusting from the inside out. http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/003778.php I figured dropping a hundred bucks or so for peace of mind might be prudent but does anyone know where you can find this product or suggest an alternative that's worth a try? Thanks in advance,
  14. Herein lies a part of the answer.
  15. Cool now that the whole CWC thing has been not only completely sidetracked but also settled let's get back to coffee...Chris not sure if it's the place that you were referring to in SSW but that roastery / beanery vibe at Lourensford is pretty good and worth a look.

    Child seat

The only downside to the front seat in my opinion is that the kids are sitting in the wind and while you might be overheating you have to make provision for the fact that they aren't exactly exerting themselves and may be cold.

    Child seat

Do a hub search on the iBert seat, this has been discussed a few times. Re kid in the front, if you are riding at any kind of speed or manner that puts you or your kid at risk of going over the bars you have yourself and not the position of the seat to blame. I have used my iBert on a lot of jeeptrack and the odd more mellow flowing singletrack but always at 30% of your bike handling limit and never even been close to anything resembling risk. The little oke LOVES it. If anything the "front-loader" keeps you aware at all times of the fact that you have your little one on the bike with you...with them on the back you might get a bit carried away and do something stupid.
  18. Bought a Santa Cruz (dragons) one from my LBS for R220 so not sure why it should cost double that from Omnico.
  19. You may be in luck, I have a strip that came out of a Bontrager Race Lite rim I trashed...not sure if it will fit but it's worth a shot. As for Just Fun....don't get me started. Actually no, do get me started....USELESS!!!!!!! PM me if you want the strip...can maybe send it to CT with Mrs. XTC as she comes through there often for wek.
  20. Anyone riding Eselfontein SS this year? Was toying with chucking on the 32 x 20 to save the legs on the long route.
  21. Ya a halflink is a nightmare to deal with using a common garden variety chaintool! I'm getting a Niner frame with vertical drops soon, hope I get lucky re using the halflink without tensioner. WRT chain tension at the moment I have sliding dropouts which tend to do exactly that quite frequently...slide... and I've found with a proper SS chainring, cog and wide chain you really do not have to be too worried about dropping a chain due to chain tension as it has sometimes in the past ended up quite pap, almost to the point of slamming the chainstay, to no ill effect.
  22. You could probably also try BMX Direct..Schogn there is super helpful and can mail from JHB for about 50 bucks. http://bmxdirect.net/online-store/bikes-parts/chains/ You get a single half-link as well if you don't want to replace the entire chain...not sure about width compatibility issues.
  23. Mate of mine had continuous issues dropping a 9 speed chain on his SS...switched to a nice wide half link and no hassles since. In my opinion going through the the effort of finding a halflink chain so you can get rid of the chain tensioner is well worth it.
  24. Innocent and harmless entertainment. (the "threat" ... not the skidmark!)
  25. The seller is in the states and doesn't do international shipping.
