  1. After detecting some side to side play on my rear wheel stemming from the hub I assumed the bearings were toast. LBS just called me now to say that the sealed bearings are loose within their cavities in the hub, as if the cavities have been worn out over time to be bigger than the should be. Has anyone come across this and can anyone suggest a remedy for this issue ... Would loctite be strong enough to set the bearing into it's correct position?
  2. Only ever had good service, call them.

You can't stand up on the pedals with the seat in place. You have to pedal with your knees slightly further apart but on my medium frame bike the iBert is not too invasive.

Hey Wayne, from what age can your little guy ride on that top tube seat? Mine is currently in an iBert but given how wild he is on his scoot bike this looks like a good next step. I took him out in the trailer yesterday but it doesn't take him long to get bored in there.
  5. How's the build coming along? Curious...
  6. If you book Mango, pay Mango and fly Mango it's one thing. When you want to avoid all that and book SAA, pay SAA rates and get to the Airport only to realise your are on an SAA flight which is operated by MANGO it's even worse.
  7. Nuts and top tubes were not designed to be that close to each other.
  8. Thanks Crow...love the look of Hope products though I don't find the sound of the rear hubs particularly appealing...Makes the dogs in my 'hood even barkier than normal.
  9. While we're on that topic...what is the difference or "improvement" of the EVO's over the normal Pro 2's?
  10. Good work Hairy. Ya I've been back on the bike, against Doc's orders and much to the wifes disgust as I was only really meant to be riding the spinner...have only been riding the geared dually the last month or so...too sore to absorb hits on the hardtail on a trashed ankle and have to wait for it to get stronger before I can stand and crank out proper hills. Saw the doc for a last set of Xrays last week and he's happy...will be getting back on the single soon...can't wait!
  11. Looking better than when I saw you after the OV 24! Wat ratio were you running?
  12. I'm sure you'll be able to add to the order if you only placed it this morning, those Pommies don't wake up till MUCH later in the day.
  13. Nice work! May i suggest that you look at the el Guapo handlebars on their site? 810mm of awesomeness. At the price I reckon it's worth getting a set and if you don't like them I'll take them off your hands. Oh ja and Oury grips at 5 quid a pair...simply the best grips you'll ever use...well worth chucking a few into your shopping basket.
  14. Maybe take a look at what these okes have to say re sizing; www.thehubsa.co.za/forum/topic/115833-frame-size-for-a-29er/page__pid__1646825#entry1646825
  15. I have the "original'" version of that exact frame .... BULLETPROOF. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/113494-in-celebration-of-29er-day/page__st__48
  16. If you look at the sizing chart on the On One website you'll see that there is only an 8mm difference in effective top tube length between the L and XL, however the seat tube is 38mm longer on the XL....biggest difference is thus standover height rather than reach. If you have a longer torso in relation to leg length I'd go for the Large...but that's just me! Remember to order a frame with horizontal or sliding vertical rather than normal vertical dropouts so you can get your chain tension sorted without worrying about a tensioner.
  17. I'd go for the Arch EX or maybe even Flows on Hope hubs. If you haven't been riding SS before it may be prudent to rather get the normal rather than SS specific hubs so you can chuck a cassette on the bike and ride it if gears if your knees decide to pack up or you simply don't enjoy it. You get cogs with a rather wide contact point / base to minimise freehub damage when running SS. Oh ya and you could probably get that wheelset landed in SA for not a hell of a lot more than 4K if you shop around online.
  18. Hey Steve did you buy the Niner steel or carbon fork? I've been looking for one of the steel forks for my MCR but they're scarce and pricey. I've spent quite a bit of time using an On One Carbon such as the one on your bike on both an On One Inbred 29 as well as a Niner MCR...there's absolutely nothing wrong with them...light, cheap and works a treat. HDP - My buddy is around 6.2" and fits on a Medium Inbred 29" so I reckon you'd be OK on a large, depending on whether you want your bike to feel more like fun or more like barge. Perhaps keep in mind that the Inbred 29 isn't fond of an overly long stem.
  19. Were you # 14?
  20. I've broken a 9 speed chain on my SS...also at the powerlink. Not so "power" as it turns out. I've used a halflink off CRC which is completely bulletproof, looks the business and helps with getting the length right but I've been reading on the net that halflinks are more prone to wearing / "stretching" (whatever you do don't tell anyone I called it that!) than a normal link chain ... I'd love to hear some debate from our resident mythbusters on that. Currently running a proper SS chain...only because it was on special though any 8 speed or BMX chain should do the trick just fine. A mate of mine had huge issues dropping the chain on his SS with SS specific cog and chainring, when he switched from 9 speed chain to wider halflink the problem stopped. Not everyone has this issue but in his case it sorted the problem out.
  21. Oh how I would love to be adding my name to that list.
  22. Check on the www, others have done it as well. I was going to do same some time ago on an old steel Giant ATX, I went as far as buying the file but ended up getting rid of the bike before I could get stuck into it. As long as it allows you to tension the chain somewhat as it wears out, you haven't compromised the strength of the dropouts by filing them too aggressively and the QR binds strongly enough to avoid the wheel moving I doubt there would be an issue. Post a pic of the bike to get me through this long day which, in retrospect, I really should have taken off....
  23. Switched from Avid to XT and the only thing I am kicking myself about is that I didn't do it years ago. No more rotor rub, easy peasy set and forget, levers feel rock solid compared to the Avids which had a lot of play in them and deadly one finger braking power....happy days.
  24. Learn to ride with "loose" hands rather than holding onto the bars for dear life, keep your weight back a bit more than you usually would when encountering rocks and bumps so your legs take more of the hits and your hands and arms less. Fat tyre, low pressure up front and you won't look back again.
  25. Borat ... is that YOU???
