  1. Seems like he had an excellent run! Averaging 6min/km after the swim and bike is great going.
  2. I guess Pulse meant the beginning of April... You do not try and improve your seeding at Wally.
  3. This!!! Couldn't agree more. I do it, even after a marathon, or 50km or just a 8 km training run, sometimes you are dead tired but it helps with recovery and to stay injury free.
  4. My first year of Comrades (2014): I started running in Jul 2013, but real training started in November ( that means 7 months of running...) I completed one 21km (2:14). Continued running in December, slowly building up the kms. Ran my first marathon in Jan 2014 (4:38) and in 2014 I ran my first Comrades. The key to finishing my first Comrades: Consistency! I ran 21km+ every weekend from Jan to May. Average weekly kms were 60 to 70km per week. Like previous comments, take it easy to avoid injuries. I didn't put any time pressures on myself as Comrades is really far and I didn't know what to expect.
  5. Welcome to the wonderful world of ultra running! Once you're in there is no turning back
  6. One more week of resting..... I am irritated beyond measure!
  7. I like this idea. If you look at the entry fee for 70.3 and full IM... it is enough motivation to make sure you train hard!
  8. Good luck Scott! Do you know if they will be broadcasting it on Sunday like the full Ironman? It is my turn to sit in front of TV and be lazy!
  9. So, how are the nerves of our 70.3 contestants?
  10. This is a safe environment where you can speak your mind... We are all friends here, no need for flamethrowers and popcorn.
  11. Well, that will be 57km for me... one way...
  12. I am sure the heat played a role. I am lucky that I can handle heat. (Not so much for my training buddy...) I think it got to him and that is why he started throwing up. He still finished though. I think one of the factors is definitely the heat and then waterpoints not having water. Runners had no choice but to drink the terrible sweet Energade, which they are not used to. I saw on Facebook lots of people got sick along the road. One of my club mates got sick because she drank water from a hose... Not sure if the drinking water is safe along the route?? (That was her reasoning...) I still wonder though if it was the heat. This year Om Die Dam, Loskop and Irene Ultra were all very hot. Most ultra runners should be used to it. I know runners that were way better prepared than previous years and they didn't finish. I guess it all depends on the day. This poses my following question: Is the qualifying time of 5 hours to lenient? If you qualify in 4:55 will you be able to finish Comrades? (One of club mates qualified at Wally in 4:59:23 ) She just made Comrades with a minute to spare. 4:59 for a marathon means a pace of 7 min/km. At Comrades, you can easily add a min per km which is 8 min per km. That gives you 11:36 for the up run if everything is going well... then if you start in H it takes you 10 min + to get over the start line... Forgot about this: Another problem I see at my club is the lack of mentorship for novices... They lack knowledge on how to train, how to pace themselves, how to tackle your first marathon, the whole mental game at Comrades, how to eat etc.
  13. I agree, didn't know there was a 3:30 program. Let the hard work begin!
  14. I guess I have to get my act together and join you, Andrew. My best marathon time is 3:52. I would love to improve this.
  15. That also happens.... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  16. Me too... I will only greet if they greet first. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  17. They were on road bikes... I guess they were fellow runners... Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  18. I ran there in 2014 and the guard asked what we will be doing. I said running. She said it is not allowed. I wrote "bird watching" and she was quite happy with that.... We still ran, toughest 25 km I ever ran. Excellent training and the cyclists even greeted us... I would recommend a support vehicle. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  19. I can't stand some of the chants ... or even worse some sort of music instrument. I am all for motivating other runners, but it gets to me. I usually try and get away from these people, not always possible though.
  20. I guess the two of you are not very talkative while running or you were moving too fast to talk...
  21. Legs and body are feeling fine, just need some motivation to sprint for a mile.
  22. Can we get Nike to spend millions to design me special shoes and pay scientists, physios, dieticians etc. to see how fast they can get my legs moving after Comrades?
  23. I only got back from Durbs on Saturday, good grief it is cold here in JHB!! I am really looking forward getting on my bike. One of my "non-Comrades" buddies cycled in the Cradle this weekend, he says it is just too cold. I guess it is indoor trainer time... Good luck to all the 70.3 guys, happy tapering week! Stay healthy and rest!
  24. You won't regret it. My club is my family. I guess it is what you make of it, so get involved. Join the club runs. You will make friends for life. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
