  2. Guys were going of the topic here - we have announced a pilot road series of 6 races and we want to make it work - we have identified races and those EOs agreed to work with us. We will publish the rules soon. But please share ideas. Lets keep talking about how we make it work for all of us. --------------------------------------------------- Which categories should be in the series? Teams: elite/u23 men, elit/u23 women (apparantly we should not call the ladies), vets per age group Individuals: Juniors, Elites/U23 men, women, Vet A, B, C and D men and women
  3. Yes of course best out of 3 - the rules will be released soon!
  4. I sit on the road commission yeh. Bunch of volunteer from all the provinces tryin our best.
  5. Noted Satellite Classic (spelling) is 07 Oct. Two race same weekend in opposite sides of the country makes it possible for both north and south to score points on the log - we will see how it works and the attendance.
  6. We had to update it - my mistake. When WC gave us their races they removed the Boland race but I removed the wrong one - so no TTT, the correct race is the Boland 100 miler. Apology for the confusion. More info on the categories and points will follow soon. Your comments are appreciated you can also forward it to road@cyclingsa.com and any money you want to sponsor for the series (joke)🫥
  7. One can dream..... The purpose of this limited series is to test the concept see what works what does not work - 2024 will be a full-on series. The cycling club table is a good idea too.
  8. Not everyone will be able to travel to all races - so having 2 races on one weekend both sides of the country affords rides from both sides opportunites to score points - we will see how it works.
  9. Hi guys Got a set of oldish 303 tubbies with cracked/damaged rims and considering replacing only the rims with 'aftermarket' clincher rims. Note the proposed conversion from tubby to clinshr. Spokes and hubs are still good. Also noted that the rims are 18/24 and not the usual 20/24 configuration. Can I buy 30mm carbon 18/24 rims and merely replace the hoops or I am gonna miss something crucial?
  10. Never boast in the presence of Frosty
  11. I will have some of those never used lying around if you interested pop me a message.
  12. Probably still the hottest frame around. Years later
  13. Its actually the SA championships this weekend - se attached Race Info - SA XCO Champs - Thaba Trails 15 16 Apr23 v2.pdf
  14. It works well if you have a few bikes and your kids too. So you only switch it on over weekends for those bikes that you use. Works out significantly cheaper for me. Just remember to switch it off again......
  15. I will try answer. We cannot close the road. Only metro police can. So you need their buyin and they need to approve and they need to DO it as well, so you will pay for all their officials which needs to be deployed. The longer the road and the more intersections the more officials @ Sunday fee. For the Gauteng champs we paid roughly R20k for 3 officials for 2 days. R3k each per day. For a 90km urban route, probably 30 intersections, 2 officials per intersection..... Then there is also the public participation requirements - you need to inform the public/residents/landowners - via some media or you might need to advertise or place a notice in the newspaper. Then you need marshalls and fencing to close the intersections. But the main problem is not the cost... its to get the approval
  16. This setup is surely not ideal but we had to deal with it. We did good. But every now and then it got stupidly busy and then it takes only one or two impatient drivers or cyclists to create a bottleneck. What we need is a wider piece of road surface to accommodate all the traffic or better even = road closure. Which is near impossible. Believe me tried. Last year @ the Circus we managed to close that section of road but at great expense.
  17. I just responded on that thread
  18. Yah saw it. Quite unfortunate. Lady came up to start of TT and another car from the front with little space to pass. She bump the oke at a speed of 1km/h, he fell, she rode over his back wheel, he kicked a moerse dent in her door. Cops were there took statements. He was not a participant and his bike is very old - if that helps.
  19. Valid points on colours. It used to be like that. you were selected for SAs. Dont know why it changed - might well have been numbers. So the road commission is working on sometihn like this. For youth SAs, the SA champs is also an interprovincial competition. Riders are selected, provincials is a required race, and a winning provinces is awarded a floating trophy. Gauteng won it 2020 and WC 2021. One of the challenges with this, even at that young age, is riders want to race in club/sponsored kit, not in Gauteng kit - we overcame that with provincial sox - great initiative. Every province riders are recognisable by their provincial socks. Quite cool. Maybe one day we can try that for elites/vets too. Apology for the overshare but there are people behind the scenes slaving to improve things in babysteps so your points are noticed Spinnekop.
  20. Nice Frosty. I am all for the club structures looking after its members. The 2023 Gauteng colours policy was sent out to all clubs. Would be interesting to see how many clubs do send it to the members though.
  21. 454 entries for this weekend makes it the biggest field since Gauteng champs 2019 at Union Buildings. And a bit bigger than SA champs 😉
  22. Morning. Yes, junior gearing was scrapped by UCI. CSA subsequently also scrapped it for ROAD , as well as for all age groups https://www.cyclingsa.com/cycling-south-africa-removes-restricted-gearing-for-all-youth-riders/ But for TRACK there are still restriction https://www.cyclingsa.com/cycling-south-africa-revises-gearing-restrictions-for-track-cycling/ Hope this helps
  23. Jaco posted this: There is a time and place to GO - and that time is NOW. Into a PLACE. A very VERY deep place that very few have the privilege or even understanding of what it is like to even go into. It’s a place that can MAKE you, but also a place that can absolutely BREAK you. Its been such a journey lately to even GET to THIS place (again) – to those that supported me (some doing so without even knowing it) - it means wayyyy more than you would ever know. Hold thumbs that the mind and body is not tooo FUBAR too soon and lets see what the future holds - Doolhof here we come #downhill2dasea (I hope!!)
  24. So who is your money on this year? I would put good money on a husband and wife win.
  25. I have it that that parts dont carry duties but complete bikes do. So theoretically, if you ship the frame and wheels separately you will see a significant saving. Would like to know if this is true.
