Noted Satellite Classic (spelling) is 07 Oct. Two race same weekend in opposite sides of the country makes it possible for both north and south to score points on the log - we will see how it works and the attendance.

We had to update it - my mistake. When WC gave us their races they removed the Boland race but I removed the wrong one - so no TTT, the correct race is the Boland 100 miler. One can dream..... The purpose of this limited series is to test the concept see what works what does not work - 2024 will be a full-on series. The cycling club table is a good idea too.

Not everyone will be able to travel to all races - so having 2 races on one weekend both sides of the country affords rides from both sides opportunites to score points - we will see how it works.

Hi guys Got a set of oldish 303 tubbies with cracked/damaged rims and considering replacing only the rims with 'aftermarket' clincher rims. Note the proposed conversion from tubby to clinshr. Spokes and hubs are still good. Also noted that the rims are 18/24 and not the usual 20/24 configuration. Can I buy 30mm carbon 18/24 rims and merely replace the hoops or I am gonna miss something crucial?

It works well if you have a few bikes and your kids too. So you only switch it on over weekends for those bikes that you use. Works out significantly cheaper for me. Just remember to switch it off again......

I will try answer. We cannot close the road. Only metro police can. So you need their buyin and they need to approve and they need to DO it as well, so you will pay for all their officials which needs to be deployed. The longer the road and the more intersections the more officials @ Sunday fee. For the Gauteng champs we paid roughly R20k for 3 officials for 2 days. R3k each per day. For a 90km urban route, probably 30 intersections, 2 officials per intersection..... Then there is also the public participation requirements - you need to inform the public/residents/landowners - via some media or you might need to advertise or place a notice in the newspaper. Then you need marshalls and fencing to close the intersections. But the main problem is not the cost... its to get the approval

This setup is surely not ideal but we had to deal with it. We did good. But every now and then it got stupidly busy and then it takes only one or two impatient drivers or cyclists to create a bottleneck. What we need is a wider piece of road surface to accommodate all the traffic or better even = road closure. Which is near impossible. Believe me tried. Last year @ the Circus we managed to close that section of road but at great expense.

Yah saw it. Quite unfortunate. Lady came up to start of TT and another car from the front with little space to pass. She bump the oke at a speed of 1km/h, he fell, she rode over his back wheel, he kicked a moerse dent in her door. Cops were there took statements. He was not a participant and his bike is very old - if that helps.

Valid points on colours. It used to be like that. you were selected for SAs. Dont know why it changed - might well have been numbers. So the road commission is working on sometihn like this. For youth SAs, the SA champs is also an interprovincial competition. Riders are selected, provincials is a required race, and a winning provinces is awarded a floating trophy. Gauteng won it 2020 and WC 2021. One of the challenges with this, even at that young age, is riders want to race in club/sponsored kit, not in Gauteng kit - we overcame that with provincial sox - great initiative. Every province riders are recognisable by their provincial socks. Quite cool. Maybe one day we can try that for elites/vets too. Apology for the overshare but there are people behind the scenes slaving to improve things in babysteps so your points are noticed Spinnekop.

Nice Frosty. I am all for the club structures looking after its members. The 2023 Gauteng colours policy was sent out to all clubs. Would be interesting to see how many clubs do send it to the members though.

454 entries for this weekend makes it the biggest field since Gauteng champs 2019 at Union Buildings. And a bit bigger than SA champs 😉

I have it that that parts dont carry duties but complete bikes do. So theoretically, if you ship the frame and wheels separately you will see a significant saving. Would like to know if this is true.

Anyone ever order a complete bike from chainreaction? From what I can understand the tax on a bike is different from the tax on parts - so would you want the bike and wheels to be delivered separately?
