  1. (a) if the road has a pedal cycle lane, ride only in the pedal cycle lane and may not ride on any other portion of a public road except when crossing the road; or (b) if there is no pedal cycle lane, ride— (i) to the left of the left edge of the roadway
  2. And that's exactly the problem, we as cyclist expect everyone else to obey the laws on the road. If they had kept further to the left, and didn't ride next to each other all this would have been avoided..some basic road rules for you..read point number 2 and number 5. At least two violations by the group, but no lets rather blame someone else... Reg 311. No person shall ride a pedal cycle on a public road unless he or she is seated astride on the saddle of such pedal cycle. Persons riding pedal cycles on a public road shall ride in single file except in the course of overtaking another pedal cycle, and two or more persons riding pedal cycles shall not overtake another vehicle at the same time. No person riding or seated on a pedal cycle on a public road shall take hold of any other vehicle in motion. 3. Youre funny...see, like i said, we all have our opineons...but please get your mind on the topic at hand. Assumption is the ???? ??????
  4. Quagga, then I would be in total agreement that the driver was 100% at fault. But this is not the case in this instance.
  5. Like i said we all have opineons, here is another one. If a motorist is busy with his cellphone while driving, it is a distraction, yet nobody has a problem with the camera guy thats filming at 70km per hour. We as cyclist also have a responsibilty to act safe and think for ourselves. If the cyclist was in fact on the yellow line, his bars would have been in the way of the bus beause the average bar nowdays are about 720mm. So he would take up almost 36cm of road space, where he probably has almost 2 metres of space on his left. So would you feel better if the bus moved over further to the right and took out a family in a car. Sorry but it doesn't make sense.
  6. Guys we all have opineons, at the end of the day yes for sure the bus driver was at fault from what i could see. But, and this is purely my opineon...i would rather be sitting next to the road fixing a puncture, then lying next to the road. I would also not be playing around with a camera on such a busy road at 70km per hour.
  7. Get well soon guys...Looking at the other two cyclists that were killed on the road last week, its a really sad situation for cyclists. But everyone, and before you crucify me for these words..just think about what i am saying. The sooner we as cyclists come to terms with the fact that our lives mean very little for people in vehicles the better off we will be. Especially bigger vehicles..and often as in the case with the bus, the driver cannot judge distance or how wide his bus is.
  8. I have done a few carbon bicycle claims before, and i would not repair that. We have a few carbon repair guys in SA that do fantastic work but I think that specific area takes a lot of stress and pressure. I would only accept it if they agree to accept all medical liabilities, and I will insist that the frame must be sent back to the original manufacturer for stress testing after the repair. This must all be done at their cost.
  9. Be carefull of Insurace that sepcialize in bike insurance. We did a claim for a client that fell with his bike and had a cracked Bianchi frame. The frame was sent to Engineers and they eventually after 4 weeks declined the claim saying that the crack was due to Carbon Fatique. The same insurance company will now, when you purchase a second hand bike only insure it for the value that you actually paid for the bike. So if you bought an absolute bargain from someone (a Bike that maybe retails for R140 000 new and you paid R50 000...They will only pay out R50 000), and you have a claim you will not be able to replace the bike. They only cover the full replacement if the bike is new and with the original owner. Some Bicycle shops have made a killing in the insurance industry. We have done a claim for a customer and the broker then insist that the claim goes to a specific bike shop as the bike shop owner and owner of the Broker firm are good friends. Also these shops wil put in a claim for a damaged bike, the Insurance companies very often never collected, and still dont collect the salvage of bikes. The shop then repair these frames or bikes and sell them on to YOU the public. So check what you buy. A really nice profit, as this bike was supposed to be salvage. Simple carbon repair and paint and they make a massive profit. Plus the insurance paid for a new bike. Now you the end user are paying the price, because of some of the bike shop owners that has made lots of money...WHEN YOU CLAIM, MAKE SURE THAT YOU COLLECT THE FRAME AND ALL THE COMPONENTS THAT WERE DAMAGED..
  10. Sorry, but these race organizers make millions of Rands, and now you have to pay to volunteer to help them....I dont get it...
  11. If its not stripped bad, any good cycle shop should be able to clean up the thread for you. You get a special tool from park tools for the job.
  12. I think its rather sad that people feel this way..think about this for a second...Bigger cycle retailers get big discounts because they have buying power..yet instore they sell at the same price as the smaller retailers..Thus making far bigger margins than the small shops...what people also dont realise is what will happen when all your small shops do die...you will have one or two large retailers that will take over the market..just imagine those service levels when you are forced to buy from them..or forced to take your bike there for a service..
  13. Drivetrain Sram...maybe not the earlier 10 speed components, but the newer 11 speed and 12 speed drivetrains are fantastic. Brakes........Magura or Hope...sorry
  14. Drop me a pm..we can service your lower legs, put some fresh oil and change your dust wiper seals.. Regards...the cobbles cycles
  15. I know 5 people with vipa's and they all cracked in the exact same place...
  16. Momsen have a huge problem with frames that are cracking on the chainstay area...
  17. Mainly a weight difference...and if you really think about it its not that crazy..look at what a xtr cassette cost..and look at what electronic mtb group sets cost..
  18. If you have oil leaking out and its losing air, you will need to send it to Omnico. I do service Fox and Rockshox but mainly lower leg. We are more than happy to send it in for you...The Cobbles cycles...http://thecobbles.co.za
  19. I know, but they havent brought in any new stock this year... Doesnt look like they will be carrying on with the brand.
  20. Hullabaloo are no longer bringing in RM...so there is no support for them at this stage, real pitty because they make some really great quality bikes.
  21. There is a fairly big setup process for those units..they are a bit mmmmm..sometimes they work for a while but they always tend to give problems..get a second lever and run them seperately..
  22. Great guy, legend joining a really great bunch of guys at Rush Sports..
  23. All the bikes you mentioned are great bikes, but having owned a Scalpel, Anthem and a Rocky 999...I dont think you will be happy..my oneten is the most comfortable bike i ever owned. Scalpel is really uncomfortable, Anthem...after riding a oneten...mmmm no..i would either go with a RM or a Stage..
  24. Unfortunately as from October this year if you don't sell Scott bikes, you will not be able to do the warranty or help with Scott parts. So make sure that you have a Scott bicycle store in your area before you buy a Scott. They have a new policy, that only shops that sell Scott bikes are allowed to get parts for them, pretty much the same as Specialized.
