  1. Don't be a baby. Even my kids are not scared of me. I am a mild mannered accountant.
  2. My wife took no chances. She brought the DVD home before it was shown on TV.
  3. I decided to try out the concept of having a bike at either end of my Gautrain journey so I brought my spare SS back from Cape Town and bought two D bolt locks from CRC. The locks come with a mounting bracket but the locks are too big to carry inside the frame or behind the seat. So after a week of pondering the issue I decided to mount the bracket on the front fork. This bike does the Rhodesfield to work run which is only 5kms and all on tar. I tried it out yesterday and it worked well.
  4. A couple of years ago we went to a race in Hazyview and stayed in the same hotel as Kevin and David. It was the quite an eye opener ( and funny) to see them sharing a normal person's sized meal. They even shared a small (250ml bottle of wine). But I guess their results prove the benefits of such a training regime. I hope that this is their year.
  5. Northgate Shopping Centre?
  6. Randburg Mall Taxi Rank - food court Not as glamorous as the rest of the photos but it was an unusual setting for me to find myself in. On my way home yesterday afternoon I stopped in at the Vehicle Licencing Department in Randburg to renew my driver's licence. The whole process took all of 10 minutes so I decided to buy myself a coke before heading home. The taxi rank is right next door so I bought a coke and sat down and watched the people going home.

  9. I just received an shipment from CRC this morning. No duties on the tyres
  10. Brings back good and bad memories. In the mid 80s a cyclone pushed 6m swells on Durban beaches. I managed to get out to backline on my waveski and then spent nearly two hours trying to get back to shore without killing myself.
  11. I am quite keen to get one of these bikes next. I am not sure of the pricing but hubber MtbDude seems to be the local agent. http://www.cotic.co.uk/product/bikes/roadrat/flat_bar/
  12. Don't expect to score any points in the Silly Commuter Racing series if your opponent is wearing a shirt like this
  13. That was my estimate too.
  14. I spent the weekend in Stellenbosch visiting my daughter. I am certain that I did not want to be those backmarkers who were still riding after midday. The temperature was 36 deg C.
  15. My wife's 1st reaction to the news that I entered both of us in this event was " What are we going to wear?" Judging from previous SSWC events this is not a frivolous question and one that causes as much anxiety as the ratio of the sprocket to the chainring.
  16. We have entered - tented option
  17. In 2005 I did a race the following weekend - but my legs were very sore and I was mentally jaded In 2008 I was ill and abandoned the race after day 5. I could not face riding for about 6 months. After last year's Jhb2C I took two weeks off and then did Magalies Monster with no problems My experience is the better your Epic the sooner you want to start riding again
  18. We bought a few of these at 94.7 expo. The zips have all broken so we have gone back to using ziploc packets.
  19. My only solo Argus was in 1998. I bought a bike in mid January having never owned a bike in my life as I was too involved in other sports. My training consisted of 1 x 20km ride 1 x 70km ride 1 x 105km race ( Ride for Sight) . I had the sweep vehicle for company most of the way. My Argus time was 4h25 - I had a stunning ride and have been hooked on cycling ever since.
  20. I have used Cytomax since 1999 even when the Rand died against the dollar and the price of the 2kg tin went up to R700.
  21. I also have peptopro samples that I add to my normal energy drink. It does not make my drink bitter.
  22. I have been given some energy drinks to test in the past that tasted terrible. The most recent one we tried out was the USN Epic PRO - it tasted like dog food. So for me taste is also important especially after a whole day of drinking it.
  23. I had to take my daughter to Lanseria Airport early on Saturday morning and drove along part of the Cradle training route . There were a few Club 100 and Cyclelab bunches along the way. All of them were riding in single or double file. All had ride marshalls front and back. I was impressed. BTW I am not a member of either club.
  24. That has been my experience too
  25. I did not know that it had been released yet.
