  1. Haha. Ja, dit was.....
  2. Infantry School? Me too.
  3. One can see the intelligence in that face..
  4. Are they similar to the dog in that movie with Richard Gere, Hachiko, I think it was?
  5. Wait until you see the price of the new 1250. Have some coffee ready...
  6. Top of the mountain last week..
  7. I wonder if designers are taking their cues from flight feathers on birds' wings?
  8. I was at an airshow in London some years ago and they flew the Vulcan. It took off and climbed almost vertically. The ground did shake and the air seemed to sound like it was tearing apart. Absolutely amazing.
  9. You really should watch it. The scenery is unbelievable, locals friendly and the riding out of this world.
  10. Well done to you two. But on another topic, who here is watching the Dakar and who knows how to stream it without DSTV?
  11. Well....It is a lot of money, granted, but when you put it against the R300K odd for the new GS 1250, it sort of seems OK. Sort of...
  12. Don't know them but via the WildDogs portal, I contacted a group called Tuffstuff, run by a Wilddogs member. Can't remember the exact amount I pay for my GS adv but I think it's around R700. Outsurance sounds expensive bu remember to check the fine print of any contract you take out. If you want to find out more, he is at : laurie@tuffstuff.co.za Cheers
  13. Ja, I could sort of deal with the cold and rain but the lack of sun, that killed me. Even in Summer, the sky would cloud over and turn silver. No blue like here. Still, mustn't grumble, eh? Enjoy it. Have you been to Isle Of Man?
  14. Just looking at that moss on the ground takes me straight back to my time in London and gives me the shivers. The weather there just sucked the blooming life out of me.
  15. The sea was an amazing colour yesterday at Scarborough..
  16. Looks great. Make sure we get photos of the ride too.
  17. You're quite correct. That piece of Gysmanshoek is going South to North and a bit before the steep part. \That was a bit of "hang on and keep going" I can tell you. Voice in my head kept telling me "Momentum is your friend". If you drop one of the big bikes there I think you would struggle to get going again. But I take your point about riding the KLR on the tar. On the flatter longer gravel roads the GS just ate up the kms and once on the N1, well, it's at home on the open road. So the bigger Adv bikes are for sure a compromise. A handful on the technical stuff but a dream on the open road. One has to choose, I suppose. I may be up in George between Xmas and New Year and would like to ride to Meiringspoort. If so, I'll drop you a line and if we don't go for a ride, we could perhaps have a coffeee and a yarn somewhere.. Here are two more photos from the trip. One at the top of Rooiberg pass and the other in Boschluiskloof. Hot but beautiful.. Roooiberg Boschluiskloof
  18. Sure did. Rooiberg is indeed rocky and, dare I say it, technical for me on the beast. Beautiful, though, even at 31C. Gysmanshoek, hmmm.... See below.. Firs time wearing adventure pants and I couldn't straighten my leg enough to reach the ground when I stopped. Result? extreme embarrassment. Twice, nogal. Got to say, I really enjoyed this bend on Rooiberg. Not great quality as it was take from a GoPro video and the lens was absolutely covered in dust .
  19. Haha. All we know is...... he's called "THEBUFF"!
  20. Haha, he wasn't the only one...It's a great ride, though, and we had a cooldown breakfast at Hazendal.
  21. Hey, no fair! I also rode to Van Wyksdorp recently and didn't get to see that nice little river section. Where is it - it looks great. I rode up over Gysmanshoek Pass. Pretty but a bit tricky in places on the Beast.
  22. Buff, Nice to see you ride a motorbike too. I met you some years ago on a ride with some mates at Bottelary. You rode with us for a while and showed us around. Was a good day. I have a photo somewhere and will see if I can dig it up.
  23. Had an interesting experience on Saturday. Bought a new Anakee 3 and, unknown to me, the traction control was disabled on removal of the wheel. 20 kms later, I tried to accelerate while very slightly banked over. The result was the best wheelspinning slide of my life. Fortunately the tyre bit before I went down and even before I could react. Be very careful on new tyres for about 100kms. Lesson learned.
  24. ..The same Pravin who bypassed the board and negotiated direct with strikers and gave them an undeserved increase because they made threats?
  25. we have the same thing down here in the South on Franschoek Pass. Every week the okes ride it like it's a track and really go way beyond safe limits. I was there a couple weeks ago stopped on the side of the road taking photos and a couple of guys cam up at track speeds. If they had fallen they would have taken me out and I decided there and then that I wouldn't ride there again. It's bound to attract the attention of the law soon.
