  1. I broke a Gedore spanner trying to do this on my last bike. Then found out about the left-thread. Now have a spanner set with one odd spanner! You need a long-arm spanner to give you some leverage and also the nylon/rubber mallet will help. You must remember to use a good grease on the thread of the new pedals top stop this happening again.
  2. Getting back on to the original thread. The CPA does in fact cover this unless it can be proved in any way that the fault was as a result of improper use. However, here's the catch, the claim is against the store where the bike was bought, not the manufacturer. If the chain failed due to malfunction or equipment failure, the consumer has the right to repair, replace or refund. The Act is quite clear on this. The store would than have to take the matter up with the manufacturer or distributor.
  3. Good idea. Guys are always losing specs, wheels, etc. Particularly on trails. And we are all such honest people of course we will post if we find!
  4. Thanks for this. I have sent him a message and and will see what he do to help.
  5. My Anantomic just go and go. Use them 2 - 3 times aweek. The mid-priced ones are just under R500. Really comfy chamois too. Also have a pair of First Ascent compression bibs that I use for longer rides. Awesome at R899.
  6. Help. Hands go numb after about 20 minutes of hands on STI hoods. I have googled and general info is that lowering the STI's might help. Will tilting the handlebars down a bit be a quick-fix for this?
  7. I have a Merida Scultura Evo DA that currently has Lime Green Vittoria Rubino Slick Road Tyres on it. The tyres are now getting on a bit and I am looking to get some new ones but no-one in Durban has them. Not even CWC in Cape Town can help. Anyone know where I can get 2 new ones. Happy to go with the Vittoria Rubino III Green Road Tyres – can be beaded or folding.
  8. I remember my 3-speed, dropped handlebars well. It was a metalic blue Humber or Raleigh.
  9. Not sure how either worked but I do rember that you could not have pedal brakes with the 3-speed internal hub gears as you had to back-pedal to change the gears.
  10. Seems to be a bit of a trend in Durban too. Especially on the new promenade and on the road from Virginia to Umhlanga. I'm pretty sure it is all the "New Year's Resolution" people wnating to get fit on 2014. They'll all be gone next week!
  11. Has anyone downloaded the Bike Repair App? Cost R33.00 on iTunes. Not sure of it is available for Android. It is really helpful especially for anyone wanting to sort out minor fixes and adjustments themselves. Well worth it. Even gives advise on Bike Set-up and how to avoid Aches and Pains!
  12. What is you alcohol intake like while training? I find anything more than a glass or 2 of wine hammers me the next day. Every muscle and joint screams.
  13. Just had a look at the webiste. Looks awesome. Just wish I had the time and the bucks!
  14. Thanks for this tip. Now just need to know how to stop getting punctures!
  15. You can also try Darryl Grobbelaar. Telephone 031 2021122. Musgrave Park. he makes all sorts of orthotics and prostheses. My mate has polio in one leg and has had his shoes built up internally by him. But I have used Byron and when I had a problem with my first pair of orthotics he sorted them out at no charge. They should last for years.
  16. I got a pair of cork orthotics made up by Byron Starkey at Kings Park Medical Centre - 031 303 3874. They have lasted 3 years. Also made me a pair for my running shoes out of rubber. Have done nearly 3000kms with them. They are at the Lion Match business park
  17. So, eventually got to CT for New Year and went to Barksole at Paddocks in Milnerton to get the white touch-up paint and Hey Presto, shoes look as good as new. Will post pics when I get a chance.
  18. I've got the toptube bag. It is not too big and really great quality. Nice because you can put your keys, snacks, and even coffe money in it too.
  19. Keep the 53/39 and get a 12/28 cassette.
  20. If you decide to change to compact, let me know. At the right price, I may take the 52/36 off your hands.
  21. That would be great, just need to find out from peevee if it worked. Peevee? If it did, I'll PM you my details
  22. Please let us know if it does. Unfortunately I will have to wait until I am in CT in Jan to get some as there are no stockists in Durban!
