  1. I looked for the red and yellow helmets ever day. Baie Trots.
  2. When I get the hunger pangs, I just drink water. Lots of it. I try fill my stomach so that I don't feel hungry. I also drink a glass of water before eating and another while eating. Dieticians used to frown on this, now suddenly they are advocating it.
  3. Will these morons ever learn?
  4. 20 years of experience and studying. I"m happy to take his advice. To be fair though, he says that smoking is far worse than anything you do or don't eat.
  5. You mean this?
  6. By the way, my buddy who is a cardiologist, says any high fat diet is just bad news!
  7. I lost 25kgs doing a combination of LCLowF and 150 -200kms of a cycling a week. The 1st 15kgs took 6 months, the last 10kgs took a year. When I got to my goal weight, I started taking USN LipoXT (only 2 capsules before breakfast M-F), as, as thin as I was (75kgs, 179cm), I could not lose the tummy. I also started letting some carbs back into my diet (2 slices of low GI bread at lunch and some potato or pasta at night). I have since lost most of the tummy but have only gained 2 kgs and have now managed to keep that weight for 2 years. Even when I cut down to 100kms a week in winter, I reckon the LipoXT helped keep the winter layer away. However, you have to find the balance amongst all three AND adapt to an new eating/exercise lifestyle to keep the weight off permanently.
  8. Same problem for me. Training wheels are Fulcrum PRC's and Racing wheels are Mavic Cosmic SL's. 3 turns of the barrel adjuster either way. Forgot to do it this morning and bike sounded like a tractor!
  9. Just heard on Vuelta commentary that Giovanni Pinarello, the founder of Pinarello (the real ones) passed away yesterday at age 93. Team Sky all wearing black patches on their sleeves is a sign of respect.
  10. I'm confused. Do you poep in the shower???????
  11. No ways boet! Of the 106kms over 44kms are uphill including the first 16kms. There is a common belief that Durban might actually be higher than PMB!
  12. Climbing is not my problem. Staying with a group is my nemesis. I always seem to fall off the back of the bus.
  13. So, I am coming to Cape Town for my daughter's birthday in October. Turns out it is the same weekend as the 1 Tonner. I was going to have a chillax looong weekend after doing, hopefully, a sub 3.30 AmaShova the weekend before, but this one is tempting me now and I will be there anyway. Will my legs hold up on Hellshoogte? Is the extra 54kms more than 'Shova going to kill me. Apparently the Westcoast race at Langebaan is also that weekend. Which is the better race?
  14. So decided to go chasing sunrises this morning. Checked the rain forecast last night, put the kit out and dragged myself out of bed at 5am. All good. A bit chilly (well for Durban anyway) and DARK. Anyway get to turn up the first climb and WHOA! Who turned the wind machine on. The next 90 minutes were a trade-off between hell and heaven. 10km/h slower into the wind but 10km/h faster when I turned back downwind. The joys of August training. Oh well at least I got the sunrise pic.
  15. Just remember. The only time the wind stops blowing in CT is to change direction!
  16. Now I know why some people call The Argus, The August!
  17. A bit like Kite-surfing?
  18. If that is the case, why does it always seem to blow in your face in The Argus?
  19. Also. Just be aware going through Paarden Island. It can get a bit dodgy on the cycle path around the back. Best to ride with someone. There have been some bike-jackings there in the past.
  20. I did a search just yesterday looking to see if there was an app. Obviously couldn't find it (because Bikerider12 hasn't developed it yet) but I came across mtbApp. Pretty nifty. Has a link to thehubsa forums. But that doesn't load!
  21. I have stopped cycling alone until it gets starts to get lighter earlier. Apart from the potholes, it just isn't worth the risk of being bike-jacked. Weekends only with my buddies for me until the road season starts again.
  22. Heres the link to the article: http://highwaymail.co.za/165464/cyclist-59-stabbed-for-bike/
  23. Not so "okay". He was stabbed with a punctured lung and ended up in ICU, but they say he should recover. He stopped to fix a puncture ay 5.45am yesterday. On the Blair Atholl bridge as it goes onto the M19. Was apparently alone.
  24. Is that including airfares? And Shengen visas?
  25. You can carry on through Blouberg all the way to Koeburg on Otto Du Plessis Road. Round trip will be close to 80kms. Flat but nice roads and cycle paths.
