  1. So decided to go chasing sunrises this morning. Checked the rain forecast last night, put the kit out and dragged myself out of bed at 5am. All good. A bit chilly (well for Durban anyway) and DARK. Anyway get to turn up the first climb and WHOA! Who turned the wind machine on. The next 90 minutes were a trade-off between hell and heaven. 10km/h slower into the wind but 10km/h faster when I turned back downwind. The joys of August training. Oh well at least I got the sunrise pic.
  2. Just remember. The only time the wind stops blowing in CT is to change direction!
  3. Now I know why some people call The Argus, The August!
  4. A bit like Kite-surfing?
  5. If that is the case, why does it always seem to blow in your face in The Argus?
  6. Also. Just be aware going through Paarden Island. It can get a bit dodgy on the cycle path around the back. Best to ride with someone. There have been some bike-jackings there in the past.
  7. I did a search just yesterday looking to see if there was an app. Obviously couldn't find it (because Bikerider12 hasn't developed it yet) but I came across mtbApp. Pretty nifty. Has a link to thehubsa forums. But that doesn't load!
  8. I have stopped cycling alone until it gets starts to get lighter earlier. Apart from the potholes, it just isn't worth the risk of being bike-jacked. Weekends only with my buddies for me until the road season starts again.
  9. Heres the link to the article: http://highwaymail.co.za/165464/cyclist-59-stabbed-for-bike/
  10. Not so "okay". He was stabbed with a punctured lung and ended up in ICU, but they say he should recover. He stopped to fix a puncture ay 5.45am yesterday. On the Blair Atholl bridge as it goes onto the M19. Was apparently alone.
  11. Is that including airfares? And Shengen visas?
  12. You can carry on through Blouberg all the way to Koeburg on Otto Du Plessis Road. Round trip will be close to 80kms. Flat but nice roads and cycle paths.
  13. Well it seems somebody spooked him. Ad has gone!
  14. Berocca Performance every day after your morning workout. Plus it will help keep the flu away.
  15. Outsurance's No Claim Bonus is a scam. You pay for your insurance, claim dammit! They con you into not claiming by promising you out bonuses but when if you a total loss just before the date of the bonus, you lose it anyway. You should still be able to go back to Outsurance for help now.
  16. This doesn't sound right. If he jumped the stop street, he is guilty. It is not your responsibility to make sure that someone obeys the laws of the road! There is no "partial blame" in an accident. Are you insured? If so, claim from your insurance and let them sort it out. If not, I suggest you get some legal advice.
  17. First time but here is the route profile. Doesn't look tough at all. http://www.amanzimtoticycle.co.za/images/stories/69er%20profile.jpg
  18. Anyone in KZN doing this? Last road race until Engen or Amashova!

  20. STS at Moses Mabhida have a few to choose from.
  21. Get a Second Skins wind jacket. Cheap, very light and folds up into your back pocket.
  22. Anatomic leg and arm warmers and long fingered gloves. I also swopped my waterproof windbreaker for a second skin top which is lighter and works wonders over arm warmers. Also easy to strip off and stuff in a back pocket of things warm up. Also take a look at the TENN branded stuff that Sportsworld is offering. Imported from UK so should work in the cold!

    Is Ryddog's other name Amos?
  24. I finally went for a 1 hour sports leg massage today after battling to get the power back in my legs after Tour Durban last Monday. What a win. I had ITBS in my right leg and major muscle fatigue in the left one from compensating for the ITBS on the right. Anyway, after much swearing, both legs are feeling great and I am actually looking forward to tomorrow's Election Day ride. Going back for another session next week. As for the foam roller. It is a must, but 30 second is not enough. 2 x 90 sec sessions both sides at least.
  25. Let me know if you get stuck and can't find anyone who can take it for him. One of my supplier's wife is the local sales manager for UTI and I can maybe ask him to ask her nicely to make a plan. You may know him - Andrew Taylor from Independent Newspapers who helps organize the Hill2Hill.
