Most of my early cycling related purchases came from cagees... I only avoided being ripped a new one by googling everything prior to going there and checking the prices. I got fed up with them when I was tired of getting old stock that had been there for a few years... Finding a new one has been difficult. between crap pricing and unwillingness to match pricing, having no stock of items I want, and generally bad service, I find myself more and more at Solomons in woodmead. Pricing is good, always have stock of the stuff I want... Should just start my searched there instead...

Yeah the thing is, I can see how riding without one in a country that is cyclist friendly and action accountable, sure... If you're only going to commute on a hipster fixie, you won't be riding fast. Our cycling community is very different. We ride on the road. Fast. We ride off rode. Fast. We ride with drivers who do not consider us vehicles, therefore hey treat us like crap on the road. I think you're an idiot if you are ok with no helmet on South African roads. But hey... Maybe we don't really need those kinda thinkers in our gene pool?

Cars have a false sense of security... Just like those beehive-like complexes they're building everywhere... Remember stats have also shown that cars tend to dive closer to a cyclist wearing a helmet than one who doesn't. Me? I'll stick with the helmet thanks... My head is important... And if I can have more protection, I'll take it. Even if it's only effective at 4 kms per hour, you can't logically say it's not better than nothing. Although maybe for you TT and Tri boys, a bald head may be better for training! Hahaha

Doesn't matter too much who did it. The fact is there is clearly a huge prospective theft pool at races. Anyone remember the scene from "full metal jacket", where private Pyle has an unlocked foot locker? It's time we all stop making it so easy for people to walk off with your stuff. Lock. Protect. Solomons in woodmead have brand new carbon forks for like 300 bucks... May be an alternative..

I find the best way to avoid eating this stuff is by making myself a deal for each item... So if I want a chocolate bar, I can only have one if I ride 25kms...If I'm too lazy to ride, then I don't deserve the chocolate. II dint think there's anything wrong with these things. Remember your body will often crave things because of a deficiency it has. But of course, if you're like me, I can't stop at a block of chocolate... It has to be the whole slab... And that's why I can't climb hills fast;) But seriously. Treat them as rewards for hard work and it makes me feel less guilty!

I understand the frustration point for a driver. The fact is, even a ten minute wait is just that... A ten minute wait. We won't complain about being held up at a restaurant, or a movie... Or even at the robots that don't work... But God help the cyclist that holds you up for 25 seconds on a really bad day... And I must say... I don't agree with his point of going through a red robot "treat me like a car and ill start acting like one". That's dangerous. Start acting like a car and maybe we'll be treated like one sooner... Nothing annoys me more than a cyclist breaking the rules of the road but insisting everyone else should.

Very very good points here... If only the driving population could read this... I hate the selfishness that drivers show on the road...

Have you maybe considered that all the talent is on the road? So teams have to fish there for new riders... Seems you mtb boys need to train harder;)

Yah I had the same issue with my LBS. Broke a spoke and they insisted on charging me for the whole set. Went to Solomons in woodmead, they charged me for one spoke and trued the wheel. This is on RS 20 wheels...
