  1. I just hope someone makes a conscious decision to reverse the route. i.e. do the boring N14 stretch first, and go into town towards the end. More interesting, more spectators cheering towards the end where they are needed.
  2. What's with the MTB guys cramping up ? Cant take the pace ? Haha, love and peace guys Its a bit disconcerting hearing the hum of those tyres creeping up behind you on the uphills, only to be drowned by the wind in your ears, when you head off downhill again. I saw quite a few guys (and girls) that fitted road tyres and wheels for this race. Didn't know you could even do that. They were all better equipped than me with those camelbacks. Bringing me to the point. I would have thought that with all the extra hydration, cramping would be less of a problem?
  3. Consider this, as a good start road bike, within your budget https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/69632-raleigh-rc-2000bargain/
  4. Please stop multiple postings -- I will put same comment as found on the other thread ..... Take this anyway you want. Security expert maybe - but cyclist definitely not. Go buy any of the bikes pictured, go out for a few cycles, and rethink your strategy. road bike - on stopping and dismounting, your family jewels collide with your baton. NO THANKS - bring on the baddie, i'll take my chances road bike - changing grips between downhills, uphills and level ground, that pepperspray looks too much in the way. If you trigger it accidentally, you will be the fastest person up the hill, trying to escape the dense pepper fog. MTB - that lop sided baton mount is a no go. On tight sections you will be scraping a lot of trees on the RHS. Very bad, and will be cursed for life, by the tree huggers. Also, with the sensibility of saving weight, you are going to be putting 10% of the bikes weight off balance? Ditto for the pepper spray. If anything you are protecting your self with, can be taken off you easily, it can be used against you. No krav maga is going to help you there. Unfortunately, the raw truth of things as they stand .... we go out to enjoy ourselves with our sporting equipment ..... they go out armed appropriately according to their intentions ..... a third force is needed to look after our benefits, and kick the baddies in the

  6. Wow, that photo costs you about R4000 (guess at cost of GoPro) You can rely on www.jetlineactionphoto.com/ next time
  7. Hello Hiro. I have provided a quick link to the advertising section you should be looking through ... https://www.bikehub.co.za/index.php?app=hubmarket&do=view_category&category_id=25&st=0 Not sure whether you will find anything worthwhile on that budget ? You need to save at least 50 % more
  8. I would love to go, just for the memories , now to find a MTB in no time!!!
  9. Ugh , I remember that name from bush phase in the army, what seems like a lifetime ago ..... Can I pop a wheelie over my ex sgt major if I come along ?
  10. Getting a sub3 also depends on what group you are in at the start. I had the ability to get a sub3 this year but did not materialise, as I found there was no groups that formed around me. This is key, as you find yourself doing most of the work alone, and having to constantly overtake slower riders, who do not have the riding sense to keep left. I'm happy with the 3:20 I got, but will re-seed next year if not happy with my group. Paying the extra seems to work wonders for your riding ability
  11. bonked ???? are you sure ? , maybe i'm older than you, in my time bonking meant something totally different
  12. It should be ready by AUGUST
  13. If your budget is pretty slim, no worries. The bike posted above is off your list. The first big decision, is a road bike or a mountain bike? Having established that, your options ate... Go for a road bike with little or no carbon , a few years old. For the mountain bike, a bike with 26" frame will be priced competively, as its "out of fashion" and a good buy. Don't buy a "supermarket" bike, get something decent straight away. Good luck.

    Linden Cycles

Wonderful story, I'm going shopping there too.
  15. Instead there was an irritating rider (wont call her a lady) Cyclelab kit that kept shouting "keep left" as she overtook at 0,25km/hr faster than the people around her. The annoying bit, is she passed me about 5 times along the route ! Clearly cannot overtake, so maybe she should have kept left. Was very tempted to have a go at her, as i'm also from CycleLab and we don't behave like that.
  16. The new ASG chairman wants to be driving a Porsche by year end?
  17. After the 94.7 they love their bikes so much, that they decided to not touch their cars forever.
  18. Technology is not needed here, just some common decency and manners
  19. seems ??? and you start a post like this ? Hard facts are needed.
  20. Buy something decent next time - the Chinese will be coming out with a Guangdon soon
  21. and some of them were able to post speeds 72km/hr in a 60km/hr zone right in front of JMPD officials, without feeling any shame
  22. Warms the heart to think there are still people like that out there

    service on bikes

    No, I do my own
  24. Honesty people, there are a lot of moaners out there. I drove a little further into the parking and avoided parking queue and R20. So I walked a little more under the noon sun. It just so happened that the line I had to stand in was the longest.(m). So a little chat to the lady in front, and the youngster behind me, and the next thing I know, I was at the front. 2 minutes later I was walking through the stalls. Yes, certain things could be improved, but its how you approach things that makes the difference. I can't wait for the fun to start on Sunday. Good luck and enjoyment to all.
  25. I wish I could be undecided on two items costing 45% budget difference between the two ? Go for the gold coloured ones, they look nicer , and at only 92 grams penalty, don't eat a packet of slap chips before you ride.
