  1. I remember the good days on the hub when comments in the classifieds were a thing, and we had the non-cycling related threads…people were well mannered. If someone felt aggrieved, it was brought before the hub on an anonymous basis to determine if there is fault, and if fault was found, then the guilty party would be named and shamed. These days everyone just runs to the hub to complain about something without first seeking advice
  2. But I don’t create a poll when somebody tries to makes a profit And sometimes you can sell stuff at a profit, sometimes you can’t. You appear to be in the latter, accept it and move on
  3. I called this a rant because you came out calling people out and stating how you disapprove of their behavior. That is clearly a rant, you just tried to disguise as a poll. You wanted comments, and now you are calling people who diss agree with you keyboard warriors. I’m pretty sure their comments would remain the same if given in person. People very seldom pay extra for ‘upgrades’ on a second hand bike. Maybe I want to run axs, or shimano, but because of the new components you added, as a buyer I would probably not want to change these parts immediately because they are new, so ultimately I would not be buying the bike I want. You are selling the bike for more that what you paid for in the end. Maybe I should start a poll asking whether selling bikes for more than what you paid for is acceptable and call @MM out for this kind of behavior.
  4. @MM maybe you overpriced by 10k and they only lowballing you 4k in reality This is a rant by you based on a single ‘bad’ experience. You should rather ask @BikeMarketcoza their reasons for their low offer, and bring that up in this forum. This way you will get more meaningful insight/comments
  5. I feel somebody should how did that wear actually happening? I dropper is not like a fork that’s constantly moving and subject to scratches if there is dirt under the seal. Seems like this is attributable to something more going wrong and rubbing on the stanchion
  6. A good reason to buy a premium garmin watch over any other sports watch (or even a garmin head unit) out there is FirstBeat which using the HR sensor, can determine a whole variety of things. It’s so good it was able to pick up a higher than usual HR (which I attribute to my body trying to repair an adductor injury) and actually encouraging me to rest. Apple may be be rich with other features, but the Garmin integration of FirstBeat is incredible and far more useful than the Apple ecosystem. I don’t need my watch integrated with my phone/laptop/appleTV, I just need it paired so that I can upload my activities to GarminConnect.
  7. A cracked frame that has been repaired-declare/disclaim/draw attention A tyre with a plug-no action required on the sellers behalf You are being berated because of your arrogance, and yet you continue with your hard headedness, insisting you have been wronged
  8. How did we go from a ‘plug being a temporary fix and being a defect in the bikeX’ to this? That’s a leak from the valve, good chance you moved/loosened the valve stem while trying to inflate the wheel
  9. Definitely not an employee or associate. Currently have a leg injury so my ability is exercise is limited, so I’m exercising my keyboard moves I also dislike the way you made it comments and claims when it is clear you have no idea what you are talking about
  10. Imagine the good old days when we had comments in the classifieds, the number one question would be ‘are there any defects like a plugged tyre?’
  11. We may need a BikeHubCourt to resolve these issues I’d like to know what calendar the OP uses, as he has given BM till the end of the month. The last I checked my calendar, the end of the month is Friday. So the jury should rule in favour of BM as the OP is in breach of his commitment
  12. I think we need a new field for the classifieds: ‘tyre condition: plugged or unplugged’
  13. Imagine this post went out on a Friday, I feel the OP have received a chastening. The comment ‘It is well known in the community that MTB tubeless plugs are a temporary’ is unfounded. I’m for one, and I know many others, who use plugs as a fit and forget approach, especially when you properly top up your sealant. I feel BM is correct in not sending a new tyre. I’m sure that R800 would take a big chunk out of their markup, and if this becomes the norm, they will need to replace all pugged tyres on bikes they sell, even if it is not necessary, and they will simply pass the cost on to the consumer
  14. The weather has been great-sunny and a between 25 and 35 for the past 4 months, so I have not found time to comment here Winter is arriving however Hunting on an ebike seems like quite a novel idea. Maybe this is the next big thing for those tourist heading to SA in hunting trips
  15. Looks like an ebike-is that what the world is coming to?
  16. Not the new autos-you can short shift or rev it out. They have come a long way, and are absolutely incredible. They will stick in the gear you select and happily redline without shifting. They will downshift only if absolutely necessary which is basically the point of stall
  17. People often talk about past experiences being relevant today, without thinking how these things came about. The love of manual gearbox has less to do with the action of shifting and notes to deal with how bad auto boxes were-3/4 speed, the inability to hold a gear, gear hopping, the need for torque converters as the auto boxes couldn’t handle high talk, sluggish pull offs, and mostly super slow gear shifts. The came flappy tiptronic boxes, which allowed some control of gears, but really was just an auto box with some form of manual shifting. Nowadays, auto boxes have moss gears, are able to hold a gear, don’t really gear hop as their is intelligence coming from all the tech, allow for super fast pull offs due to launch control but most importantly allow for gear shifts far faster than a manual box. Modern day autos are super fun!
  18. Fast charging? I’m no expert here, but according to DC Rainmaker, the device itself determines my how much power to draw when charging. If you use a higher watt charge the device only pulls power for its optimal charge rate. If you use a lower watt charger, the device simply charges slower
  19. Home ownership has been taken over by foreign investors. Buy house and convert them into multi family homes, or to build town homes It’s not uncommon for people with a 2 bedroom to rent out a second room, or for people to sign rental agreements together. Craigslist is full of people looking to rent together or sublet rooms. Ownership is an issue. On the regret, not yet, but I’m sure Iain time I will have some. For now, life is great - I have a good job, own a place (or at least the bank does), have three bicycles and a motorbike, but this has all taken sacrifice. I could have travelled more, been more flashy and spent money more on having fun, possibly have a family to support (something I have not prioritized again after a failed marriage), but I chosen to try build a future.
  20. Countries are very different, as are the markets. In Europe many people can’t afford to buy a property, whereas in SA many people do as property is more affordable. If you just renting, you less likely to splash out. Then for those who do own, living in a world of low interest rates, you can actually see the difference a few hundred dollar or euro makes to you mortgage. So people tend to try pay that down. Throw a few hundred rand at you bond in SA and nothing happens. Then you get the another side here in Canada. Many people rent in the city or live out in the sticks because property is so expensive in the city. Yet these same people have many toys, like mastercraft boats as an example. Why? Because with $100k you can do little property wise, but you can buy something that lets you have fun and enjoy life, like a boat. In SA for the price of a mastercraft boat you can buy an apartment. People will do what they want with their money. At some point in our lives we end up regretting most decisions we have made, it’s just a matter of when this will happen to us.
  21. Can I ask how this is being determined? Are you seeing ads being relisted with adjusted prices, or is the value of sales down will number of trades is consistent, or are are you seeing the gap between listed price and price paid (accurately reflected in bike pay) decreasing? or is BH advanced enough to analyse every list price against an index and determine whether prices are exorbitant or not?
  22. That piece of plastic is there for when the lever is up i.e. clamp mechanism open to be placed on the towbar. I dont think its protective, but really just creates some space
  23. We can’t keep bashing the bike industry, they are doing their jobs - research and development. You can buy VW polo today for more than an Audi A3 10/15 years ago. Would you rather have the polo or the audi? The polo has grown in size, has more features, more, more economical, etc but remains a VW. The A3 with the old tech remains ‘German luxury’. Tiagra will always be the ‘group set under 105’, but that does not make it poor quality , slow shifting, heavy, etc As much as products evolve, so should we. Accept the fact that the current and future Tiagras will be really good
