  1. I'm sure someone mentioned checking the headset cups... 😝 Glad its sorted
  2. It would need to be a cup of tea... he doesn't drink beer, alcohol in general or coffee.... 😜 Most of what we see/read is blown up clickbait. I'm loath to have any sort of emotional yay or nay for any of these guys. But yeah, David Warner..... that guy can eat a giant bag of pickled dicks
  3. Huh? The UCI couldn't care who buys into their series or from where, as long as they have enough races buying in. Having a UCI qualifier in SA is up to event organisers in SA. The UCI have nothing to do with organising the races, they just sell/arrange buy in so that there are qualifying points towards age group world champs. Much like the UTMB points system in trail running. It usually costs the event to be a part of which is why less and less events are points accruing.
  4. I fully get making hard business decisions. It really sucks when your passion project lands up being a drain/strain on resources with little financial return. It is difficult to cut off the proverbial leg to save the body, but it does have to be done. @betaboy this decision has nothing to do with the UCI or any organising body other than those who created the race.... kicked to the curb by whom? The race wasn't making money and was a HUGE undertaking to prepare and organise. It would be up to another race organiser to liaise with the UCI to create that marriage. Talk/questions of people 'stepping in'. I'd ask what they could do differently to the locals with local connections in order to make the race financially viable? I'm not so sure anyone could offer what Big John and co did - they shut the whole town down for 2 days. Either huge sponsors would need to roll in or entry prices would need to rise substantially - or both - which would create it's own problems knocking on. I'm glad I got to do the first and last ones and a few in between. Thanks guys, the event was rad and will be remembered fondly.
  5. It was one of the few events I felt was worth the effort
  6. Hotel California!
  7. Without being funny, the 'best' disc brakes for a kids bike are these 'cable to hydro' calipers with kid pull small levers. Once can move them up to bigger bikes and down to smaller bikes almost for free and they have more than enough stopping power. I use them on my adventure bike as they are maintenance free and it's easier to fix cables and inners than anything hydraulic out in the wild. These are the expensive ones (really adjustable and amazing) https://www.amazon.com/Juin-Tech-Hydraulic-Lightweight-Cyclocross/dp/B084FCK1WX/ref=sr_1_8?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.B5dBScSJuAZxZ-xiiflSITuaskjVzPzH7BvlxAOxkZPJBA_OULMddr5HlhNHKd55WtA1oyZA08L6xOGYgfm3m6iJOhw-Vh4KwlNegEvJwdsfey69_CWTNTEfBRO9md9Cj69xQzPIhi-fzxkycl1BtO2V_2RtoIeVKp8cv6UBRv2sgpnCiL06vem4zTk4ILOdUDayIwVyhTsDnyUt5BxI5eihg-eOtYqyyLZ0VobSPgxoxHNa7G-6dmXjvGi7ZD5uLSmHOHn2ZxahshS1uanjkmCyot_AGiNsTrMlbDSILPc.edjEHR6VhSFuvcK_GunOPthWxskyFOSLsZpT1a6NikY&dib_tag=se&keywords=wire%2Bactuated%2Bhydraulic%2Bbrakes&qid=1724135266&sr=8-8&th=1 These are some cheaper ones (less adjustable, still will stop a kid on a dime) https://www.amazon.com/BUCKLOS-Hydraulic-Calipers-Aluminum-Universal/dp/B095YF1ZJT/ref=sr_1_2?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.B5dBScSJuAZxZ-xiiflSITuaskjVzPzH7BvlxAOxkZPJBA_OULMddr5HlhNHKd55WtA1oyZA08L6xOGYgfm3m6iJOhw-Vh4KwlNegEvJwdsfey69_CWTNTEfBRO9md9Cj69xQzPIhi-fzxkycl1BtO2V_2RtoIeVKp8cv6UBRv2sgpnCiL06vem4zTk4ILOdUDayIwVyhTsDnyUt5BxI5eihg-eOtYqyyLZ0VobSPgxoxHNa7G-6dmXjvGi7ZD5uLSmHOHn2ZxahshS1uanjkmCyot_AGiNsTrMlbDSILPc.edjEHR6VhSFuvcK_GunOPthWxskyFOSLsZpT1a6NikY&dib_tag=se&keywords=wire+actuated+hydraulic+brakes&qid=1724135266&sr=8-2 They really are good. As a complete bike snob it took me a while to accept that these things work really really well and make changing bikes etc so much easier And then I used the brakes... and I'm a believer..... (in song)
  8. hahahahaha this Pieter is short and looks less like one of those wavey air pump banners when he walks
  9. I ride a size 50 Liv Avail - the plumb purple carbon one with 11 speed 105 hydro brakes The Avail is an 'endurance' bike so it has bigger tire clearance (I currently have 35mm in there comfortably) as well as slightly less race, more comfortable, stable geometry. It is an amazing bicycle. I'm not sure about the older models but I believe they were always the 'endurance' bike built for comfort Before anyone suddenly thinks I am a bearded female, I am not, but when I tried out all the bikes the Avail fitted me the best and felt amazing. The spakle glitter plumb/black fade is also 5 billion times better than the plain red or school boy blue men's range. OP, you won't go wrong with either of those bikes. It's a bit like splitting hairs over two multi function micro waves when in reality you won't read the manual and will press the 'cook now' 30 second nuke button all the time anyway. YOU will be the limiting factor long before either of those bikes are. Years, if ever, in fact
  10. Pieter Rossouw is also in Paarl... He is a machinist/problem solver/bike wrench of note and also makes the verto wrack His home workshop is amazing and he is a gem of a human who absolutely shreds his DH bike
  11. Does anyone have a set of High rise MTB bars lying around? It's either a standard size 31,8mm clamp high rise bar OR a long BMX stem. I can't seem to find either
  12. Not sure why all the hate exists. Like anything, you can't mock it till you've tried it! I mean, this week alone I've seen 17" mags on a golf 1 and low profile tires on a Defender 90... Different things appeal to different people (closes door and rides off on his 20" bike)
  13. The breakdancing was decision was apparently made and announced before these games kicked off. No boxing is a shame but also meh..... Loving the LA Games trying to declare themselves a 'No Car' Olympics. Hopefully they can pull it off Cricket! Another outside chance at a medal for us, but meh... growth for the sake of growth and money. They need to tap into that Indian GDP somehow
  14. I am very calm. I'm pretty much always calm. I also 'get' that it's a joke, but like a 'thows/hits/does x like a girl' joke. Maybe I've just seen and been close to a bit too many fatal and entirely senseless motor destruction caused by said numbness and idiocy to make jokes about it. Abrasive and dismissive as usual 🥱 Hopefully a bit more time in the deep south will change that default reaction to be a bit less obnoxious 😉 Anyway, sorry for my wokeness. As you were.
  15. QR and rim brakes.... It was time for an upgrade anyway......
  16. Why? He values human life, safety and expects those who drive 3 ton death machines to do the same. Numbing ourselves to dangerous behaviour isn't 'better'. Dwight is awesome
  17. I'd suggest it's the best place to stage a non violent, well put together protest, especially in France, who are the world champions at protesting and striking! For me it also shows how removing 'news' from media houses has created very, very dumb articles which are ill researched (at best) and often just mirror the opinion of the blogger with no real insight. The algorithm spreads this hard and people are conned into believing what they see. Beware the 'news' feed on your phone! hahahaha
  18. A bit of research will show you that Raygun's performance was a flawlessly brilliant protest. She recently wrote an academic paper on the impact of sportification of breakdancing. How devising scores from a pre set spreadsheet and adding it to the Olympic roster will completely destroy the essence of what is interpretive dance. The fact that she scored 0 points shows you just how brilliantly contrary her performance was. Not 1 move could be interpreted by a single judge to match 1 of the scoring criteria, all the way down to wearing a generic cricket tracksuit to show that breaking would become 'just another sport' It was brilliantly put together by a hugely smart university lecturer who has competed successfully in many breakdancing competitions around the world before the Olympics. Just like another hugely influential lady we can all look up to - Princess Leia - She set her Raygun to stun and nailed every shot........
  19. hahahahahaha I'm also in the deep south and I hate driving. I agree with Pyga, the people in Cape Town are terrible. Not just at driving, but in general. Obviously this is a massive generalization, but compared to Durban and Joburg, the people here are unfriendly and unwelcoming in most facets of life I love living in Muizenberg, I love living in Cape Town, but for what it offers me despite a large part of the local population. The generational Capetonians are a bit like religious cults with demographic derivatives. If you're not part of that particular cult, eish........ All bets are off!
  20. I've actually done the Matjiesfontein back to Cape Town trip twice. Dit it over a weekend trying to find a route that we could create a Munga type race before the Munga existed. A good start is up to the mast then down towards the game farm. Skirt that and head parallel to the N1. One place that boxes you in is getting out of de Doorns. The old railway tunnels get you so far but it all funnels you back to the N1 or train tracks. If the train isn't running then get out that way. we waited for a train to come past then hot footed it through the gap assuming another wouldn't come in the 15 minutes. Then hop over the ridge into the breede river valley, stay at the callabash and the next day ride up Bains Kloof, descend the single track down towards wellington then hit Tableview and the bike path and finish with a beer at the waterfront You can really get creative on the first section and if you find a rideable route out of de doorns I'm all ears. Granted the last trip was a while ago now, so there may be something easier to follow that gets you over the hill now. It's a fun trip. Less fun if you get stuck fighting a head wind, but you can link it all together via JC le Roux estate area as well. There isn't a lot of accommodation early on though, so that's something I can't help you with. We just slept in a bush when needed
  21. I don't think it sucks though... As a cyclist one should ride like everyone is trying to kill you. To be fair, most are without even realising. I drove with a friend of mine the other day. I honestly thought I was going to die sitting in the passenger seat from town to Muizenberg. This is a rational person with no bias towards anyone. He just drives like an absolute maniac. I am still shook. On my bike I am less inclined to go fast and hope others don't open doors/turn in front of me etc... I'm out for enjoyment and trust no one. Those stretches of road with parked cars I occupy the entire lane and at intersections trust that no one cares. I drive like that too. Mostly because no one cares It also isn't better in most other places. I've lived in a LOT of big cities all over the world and the inattentiveness is everywhere where cars, trucks, busses and bikes are forced to mix. New Zealand was hands down the safest I ever felt commuting or riding on the road. The drivers there don't speed and don't close pass. Unless you venture to Hamilton, Mangere or South Auckland on the weekend..... Then the Drunk V8 racer boys are out in force avoiding home and the beating they are about to get from their wives
  22. Can you not take the few MM off the lip of the alu headset cup? It seems a more logical solution If it's an integrated/internal cup you can get deep and shallow cups. Post a picture or two
  23. I have 2 helmets that came with a custom Go Pro or light removeable integration. The Giro Switchblade came with a 2 piece mount that screwed together and filled a top vent. I have another old helmet I ordered from CRC (can't remember the brand and it's downstairs) which came with a similar thing but it clipped together like a Q lock spick by rotating the two pieces in opposite directions. They do exist, but I don't think they fly off the rack.
  24. I hope you're spending some of those winnings on some flowers for your wife!
  25. The same way people are so quick to damn the Springboks after losing a test to Ireland or the Proteas after losing to the Indian Juggernaut in the world T20 final.... It's not enough to do well, it's only good enough if you win SA people seem to have this idea that our athletes are somehow the best in the world and 'should' win without accepting that they are often beaten by better athletes or teams or better performances/strategies on the day. I think his bronze was better than 'expected' and more along the lines of what dreams were made of at this stage. Super stoked for him and his team
