  1. Best is to consult with a lawyer but I (not a lawyer) can refer to a case whereby someone on a spinning bike excreted himself more than he should have and ended up with some ?pulled muscle?. He tried to take the gym to court because he felt that the spinning instructor by means of peer pressure ?forced? him to spin harder than he should have. He lost the case. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Why? - because in court the question that will be asked is ?Were you forced to ride or did you join the ride voluntarily?? and if the answer to the latter is Yes then you have no leg to stand on as the legal fraternity will reply that it was your choice as you had the final say which is Yes or No. mdk555 ? Ivanb - the regrettable thing is that tandems come as one fits all sizes which as you realise in cycling just wont work and 90% of the time the poor stoker bears the brunt of it. There are little gadgets that can make the stokers life easier but just not available. There are other logistics when it comes to doing the sport which puts prople off is like how do you transport a tandem? I will PM with some ideas.
  5. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Thanks for all the replies. Last winter I hit the gym hard to try and loose 14kgs I put on after giving up smoking (now is 1 year, 5 months, 3 days, 16hrs and a few minutes) and also did a lot of hiking in and about Table Mountain. When I jumped back on the bike (still 10kg up but with more muscle) I felt strong like Mother Russia and must have been strong cause my PPA seeding went from K to H. Presume some of it (K-H) can also have something to do with my Boet (7 years older than me) who joined me on the tandem but then again his seeding, also with some winter Mt hiking went from O to I. Guess the best, depending on what you want from cycling, is as Michelle?s Ma=in law says ? do what is best/works for you. Michelle, please PM me with the results from the power meter.
  6. Increase resistance
  7. Bikemax, in the winter months we do quite a bit of hiking in the Table Mountain area up some very steep valleys, will this be good or bad for leg strength?
  8. You can always contact Maverick in Somerset West - they have a MTB tandem, and are often looking for a gullible soul to ride stoker.... Thanks Velouria, will give them a call.
  9. Winter leg weight training - Downloaded lots of stuff last night on the topic and there seems to be two distinct opposing factions where one says awesome and one of the others other statistically proves that 40km time trialists who did leg specific training posted slower times after the fact. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> There is however a general consensus that winter leg weight training is good but ?then needs to be converted? to cycling training. Cannot find more on the conversion thing. My problem, and I am sure same to for most of us Capies with the approaching wet, cold and very little daylight is that the only time left to ride is over the weekends and some supplement training is needed. Our biggest weakness, and not just because we are fat, is strength on the hills. Besides the weekday spinning to keep has I would really appreciate some weight strength training info as the Boet and I want to tackle the new season on the tandem with a vengeance especially considering that he has jumped from PPA M to I and me, K to H.
  10. Hi-jack the thread by all means but just take note of what started it
  11. Pedal, changed phones, lost yer nr and have a big back of 2nd clothes plus 2 pairs of shoes for your development squad so please phone me.
  12. Was just past the shacks and we kinda believe it was a planned mugging as there is a also a big hole in the fence for easy escape. The other tow are options but think the main thing is we must be aware of any "pedestrians" that could look out of place and or suspect as this could happen anywhere.
  13. Beware as one of our members (Outriders Cycle Club) survived an attempted mugging just as he, 6th person in a small group, was attacked by three guys. It happened on the "N1" just as you approach the Helicopter place. The one attacker had a half meter stick which he thankfully never used, the second one attempted to grab Kevin by the shirt and the third one tried to stick his hand in Kevin's back pocket. He said that it was almost as if was a planned attack. Kevin managed to evade them and has asked everyone who cycles from Paarden Eiland to Cape Town to be careful when cycling that section.

A common problem with tandems is either the lack of water bottle holders or accomodating 750ml bottles so on my tandem I replaced the existing ones with cages where the bottles slide in from the side. If your BB's do go and need replacing - do not skimp and put the best ones in AND when ever your bike goes in for anything, make then check the BB.
  15. Did not get the chance to switch the box off.......was pushing zzzzz after about 15mins
  16. I own a Ravo with the factory fitted wheels and after breaking quite a few spokes (+- 2 000km) I took them to Mark (top act tandem rider for many a year) at Marks Bike shop and had both wheels rebuilt with the best spokes available and in 5000km have not bust another spoke. The Bontrager or Rolf tandem wheels are awesome and dont buy because you think you need them - buy them because you can and want to.
  17. It is a pity that idiots like that give us bad name and undoes all the good work that many are doing to foster mutual respect.
  18. We rode tandem in group M and had a fantastic time with a very well behaved bunch. Thanks M group.
  19. Does it also come with with two seat posts?
